The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what we've got cookin' over the next couple of weeks.

We're looking at Kihei Cove, and honestly, it's not gonna be a full-on blast of energy, but there's some real nice, clean moments ahead, especially if you've got a log or a funboard. The water's sitting at a comfortable 79°, which is pretty standard for this time of year, so no need for a thick suit.

We kick things off on Wednesday the 15th with clean, glassy conditions in the morning. Swell is a tiny 2 ft out of the west, but there's a long 15-second period on it. That's groundswell energy, and with the combined energy at 565, it's got some decent push for a small day. The afternoon looks just as good with a gentle offshore breeze keeping things tidy.

Thursday the 16th, the morning is a bit average with an onshore breeze, but don't write it off. By the afternoon, the wind swings around, goes glassy, and the 2 ft swell shifts to the SSW. It's still small, but real user-friendly for the beginner to intermediate crew.

The real standout window starts Friday the 17th. Morning is dead flat calm with a glassy 2 ft westerly swell. Then Friday afternoon the wind goes offshore and the swell bumps up to a 16-second period from the south. That's clean, lined-up, and just about perfect for a longboard session without the crowd getting too crazy.

Saturday the 18th is glassy both sessions, but the swell dips a little and it's pretty ordinary. Sunday the 19th gets a bit breezy, so the quality drops off.

Now, hold onto your board for Monday the 20th. Glassy morning again, but the swell jumps to 3 ft from the south. With a 16-second period and combined energy hitting 505, this is the first proper push of the forecast. Clean, punchy little waves. Tuesday the 21st is similar with 3 ft south swell and glassy conditions in the morning – that is your pick of the first week for long, cruisey walls.

The whole second week builds into something even more interesting. Wednesday the 22nd brings a 2 ft SSW swell, but the period is a massive 24 seconds. That's very long period groundswell. Combined energy jumps to 762, but that long period can make a beach break a bit straight. Kihei Cove is a reef, so it should handle that nicely. Morning has a gentle offshore, and it's looking very good.

Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th both have morning glass and clean conditions, with 3 ft and 3 ft SSW swells. Friday afternoon, the combined energy climbs to 684 with a clean cross-off breeze – another top session.

The weekend of the 26th and 27th keeps the energy rolling with 3 ft SSW swells. The 27th Monday has a bit more wind, but still surfable. After that, the month of July winds down with smaller swells and mixed conditions, but there's still the odd clean window for a paddle.

So, bottom line: if you can get out Monday the 20th to Wednesday the 22nd, that's your best bet. Clean, glassy mornings with solid groundswell and long period energy. Especially the 22nd, with that 24-second pulse – that's a standout for those who understand the rhythm of the ocean. It'll be clean and uncrowded if you're early.

Rusty out.
