Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kihei Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty checkin’ in from the shores. We’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead, but don’t expect anything huge. The name of the game here is consistency, with clean, manageable waves for the most part. Early on, it’s a bit so-so, but there’s some real promise building toward the middle and tail end of the run.
The Outlook
Right off the bat, Thursday the 9th (that’s today) is a bit of a limp start. Kihei Cove (Maui) has a small 2 ft swell rollin’ in from the south, period at 12 seconds. It’s surfable, but with a moderate offshore breeze from the NE at 12 mph it’s just ordinary. The water’s sitting at 79°, which is dead average for this time of year, no surprises there.
Friday the 10th stays small and clean through the morning – 2 ft south swell, 12-second period, with a gentle offshore. You’ll get a wave, but it’s nothing to write home about. Afternoon gets a bit cross-off, so it’s a bit of a write-off.
Now, here’s where things start to look up. Saturday the 11th into Sunday the 12th is the first real standout. The swell ticks up to 2-2 ft, shifting to a long-period groundswell from the southwest, with periods hitting 18 and then 16 seconds. That’s proper energy for a reef setup – longer gaps between sets, but what comes through will have some shape. The combined swell energy hits 309 (moderate) on Saturday afternoon and peaks at 319 on Sunday morning. Wind is light offshore or gentle breeze from the NNE, making for clean, glassy faces. The southwest direction is bang on for Kihei Cove at this size. This is your best bet of the first week.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th keep the swell lingering at 2 ft, though the period drops. Still, with offshore winds and clean conditions (Tuesday morning has a glassy moment with almost no wind), it remains surfable and decent. The energy stays in the moderate range.
Wednesday the 15th is a real gem. 2 ft from the west, 15-second period, and we get *glassy* conditions in the morning with a slight air from the NNE. Combined energy jumps to 542 – strong, punchy for the size. That’s about as clean as it gets, and the reef will hold that west swell beautifully. This is worth an early paddle.
After that, there’s a bit of a dip. Thursday the 16th has some onshore wind issues in the morning, but the afternoon gets glassy again with a 2 ft SSW swell. The second half of the month – from Friday the 17th through to the 23rd – is a mixed bag. We see repeating 2 ft to 2 ft pulses from the south and southwest, with periods ranging from 12 to 18 seconds. A lot of the time the wind is light and clean, so you’ll get plenty of small, rideable waves. Monday the 20th stands out with a 3 ft south swell, 16-second period and light ENE offshore in the morning – energy reading of 466, strong for this spot. That’s a little more push, and the direction is right. This is the other highlight of the whole forecast, even if it’s a week and a half out.
Crowds at Kihei Cove are often around, and honestly, with this kind of small-but-consistent run, you’ll have company. But the quality of the waves – particularly on the 11th-12th, the 15th, and the 20th – makes it worth sharing the lineup.
Beyond that, the final few days (22nd-24th) taper off. The swell drops back to 2-2 ft, period shortens, and the wind gets cross-off or even a bit strong. Nothing to get excited about.
There’s a short quiet gap around the 22nd into the 23rd where it gets pretty ordinary, but the forecast is solid enough that you won’t be waiting long for another clean session.
Tie your leash, keep an eye on the sets, and enjoy the long-period glass.
