The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what this 16-day window has cookin' for us.
We're looking at one spot, and one spot only for this entire stretch – Kihei Cove. It's a protected little reef setup that's super consistent, so there's always something to paddle out for. The water temp is sittin' at a comfortable 80°, which is pretty much what you'd expect for this time of year.
Right off the bat, the first few days aren't anything to write home about. From Friday the 21st through Monday the 24th, we're looking at small, surfable waves. The combined energy is weak, bouncing between 240 and 247, which is the low end of the scale. You'll get waist-high lines, but the conditions are a mixed bag with some thunderstorms and rain showers around.
Now, things start to get interesting from Tuesday the 25th. The swell direction locks into a consistent SSW, and while the height is still only 2ft to 2ft, the period jumps up to a nice 16 seconds. That's proper groundswell energy, and the combined energy starts to climb, reaching 290 on Tuesday and then jumping to 459 on Wednesday morning. This is when the wave quality really picks up. The real standout window is Thursday the 27th morning. We've got 3ft of SSW groundswell with a 16-second period, and the combined energy hits a solid 836 – that's moderate energy for sure. Plus, we have offshore winds from the NNE. That is going to groom this reef into some clean, lined-up waves. This is the best on offer. For a spot like Kihei Cove, which can get crowded, that glassy, offshore morning is about as good as it gets.
After that peak, the energy drops off again for a few days. There's a noticeable gap from the 28th through the 31st where it's back to small, ordinary surf with combined energy under 400.
We get a little pulse back on the 1st of September with 3ft SSW swell and a very long 18-second period, pushing energy back up to 480, but the winds shift to a cross-off from the NNE, which is still clean but not as perfect as that Thursday morning.
The last few days of the run, from the 2nd of September onwards, get a bit sloppy. The winds turn onshore and cross-onshore, and the energy drops off. The consistent nature of this break means you might find a sneaky wave on the 5th of September when it turns glassy again, but it'll be tiny.
So, to wrap it up: for the whole 16 days, the one and only standout is Thursday the 27th of August morning at Kihei Cove. It's not a huge swell, but the quality, the period, and the glassy offshore wind make it the clear winner. The rest is small and ordinary, but that's the nature of this spot.
Rusty.
