Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s look at what’s coming up for Kihei Cove. This is a reef break, very consistent, and exposed to the swell. The water temp is sitting at 80° right now, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.
We’ve got a solid run of surf starting Saturday the 4th. The first standout is Saturday morning. Swell is a clean 2ft from the south, with a long period of 21 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy. The wind is light offshore from the NE, keeping it glassy. The combined energy is moderate (664). This is the best on offer early on. This long period stuff will wrap in nicely on the reef, so it should be well-shaped. Keep an eye on crowds though, as it can get busy here.
Saturday afternoon keeps it going with 3ft from the SSW, still offshore, still clean. Energy stays moderate (695). Sunday the 5th is similar, 3ft in the morning from the SSW, period dropping to 18 seconds, moderate energy (631). The wind stays offshore, so it’s all rideable.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th hold that 3ft swell, but the period drops into the 14-16 second range. Still good waves, but the energy starts to ease. Monday morning has 3ft from the SSW, period 16 seconds, energy 453. Tuesday morning has 3ft, period 14 seconds, energy 352. Wind is offshore both days, so it stays clean.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th see the swell drop to 2ft and then 2ft. The conditions are still surfable, but it’s getting ordinary. Thursday morning has a glassy moment with the wind swinging light W, but the swell is small at 2ft from the south, period 13 seconds, low energy (135).
Friday the 10th is small, 2ft, with some rain showers around. Not worth getting excited about. Then we hit a bit of a gap.
Saturday the 11th picks up a little in the afternoon: 2ft from the SW, period 18 seconds, energy 337. The wind is offshore again, so it’s a decent late-day option. Sunday the 12th is better, with 3ft from the SW, period 16 seconds, energy 443 in the afternoon. Monday the 13th morning is a real standout: glassy, 3ft from the SW, period 15 seconds, energy 506. That’s a solid session.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th keep the good run alive. Tuesday morning has 2ft from the west, period 17 seconds, energy 585, and it’s glassy. Wednesday morning is even better: 3ft from the west, period 16 seconds, energy 633, and flat calm. These are the best in the second week. The west swell direction works well here.
After that, the swell starts to fade. Thursday the 16th is still 2ft, but then it drops to 2ft Friday the 17th and 2ft through the weekend. The period on the 19th bumps back up to 21 seconds from the SW, but the swell is only 2ft, so it’s small and clean, but not a standout.
Overall, the best windows are the first weekend (July 4-5) and then the middle of the second week (July 13-15). The long period swells will make for some nicely shaped waves at this reef, especially with the offshore winds. If you can pick a glassy morning, you’ll be in for a treat. Crowds are a possibility, but the quality is worth it.
