Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kihei Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let me tell you what's cooking for the next couple of weeks.
First up, the water temp is sitting at 79°, which is about 0.9° warmer than normal for this time of year, so nothing wild there, just your typical warm Hawaiian bath water.
So, for the first few days, from Wednesday the 8th to the 10th, the surf is pretty small at Kihei Cove. We're looking at waves around 2ft to 2ft from the SSW and S. The wind is offshore, which is a nice touch, but the swell energy is moderate, ranging from about 120 to 203 in the energy reading. It's surfable, but honestly, it's pretty ordinary and not really worth getting too excited about. The crowds here are often, so you'll have company for the small clean waves.
The real story starts to build on Saturday the 11th. The swell picks up a bit, and the direction swings to the SW. The period jumps to 18 seconds, which is a long period groundswell, meaning cleaner lines and more push. The energy starts climbing into the 300s. The wind stays offshore through most of the weekend, so things are looking good. By Sunday the 12th, the swell is a touch bigger at 3ft, and the energy is up to 352. Monday the 13th holds that same clean, offshore pattern with 3ft waves.
Now, the standout window is from Tuesday the 14th through to Monday the 20th. The swell energy really starts to pump. We see a solid jump on Tuesday the 14th with energy hitting 475, and then Wednesday the 15th is looking like a top pick with energy hitting 544 and a nice 2ft swell from the W with a 15-second period, glassy offshore conditions. The energy on the 20th is the biggest of the whole run, hitting 916 with 4ft surf from the south. That's the best on offer – the waves are still manageable for intermediate surfers, but with that much energy, it's going to be a fun week. The wind is offshore or cross-off for most of it, so the conditions will be clean.
For the second week, things stay steady. The 21st shows good energy (663) but the wind goes cross-off in the afternoon, so the morning is the go. The 22nd and 23rd see the swell drop back to 3ft and the energy fades, but you still get some glassy mornings to work with.
Overall, the best bet is definitely the window from the 14th to the 20th, with the 20th being the standout for bigger, cleaner surf. The Kihei Cove break is a reef, so that long period swell from the SW will wrap in nicely and give you some proper walls. The wind is your friend here, so paddle out with confidence.
Rusty, signing off.
