The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down. We’re lookin’ at Kihei Cove (Maui) – a consistent little reef that’s perfect for beginners. Water temp is about where it should be this time of year, no anomaly to speak of.
First part of the week stays small and clean. Saturday the 18th delivers 2ft SSW groundswell at 14 seconds, glassy in the morning. Energy’s weak, around 248, but it’s clean. Sunday the 19th is even smaller, 1ft to 2ft, but that S swell stretches to 19 seconds and the wind glassy to light offshore. Real tidy.
Come Monday the 20th, we get a little bump. Still 3ft, but the period’s a solid 16 seconds and energy climbs to 505 – moderate now. Glassy starts, light offshores in the afternoon. That’s when it starts feelin’ like proper surf.
The real window is Thursday the 23rd through Saturday the 25th. Thursday morning sees 3ft SSW at 20 seconds, a moderate offshore, and energy at 752. Decent punch for the size. Friday afternoon the 24th is the standout: 2ft swell, but energy jumps to 1013, period 21 seconds – that’s a long interval groundswell that’ll wrap in real nice. Wind’s a moderate offshore, keepin’ it clean. Saturday the 25th keeps the good times rollin’ with 3ft SSW, 18 seconds, and very good conditions. That’s your best stretch – small but chunky, and the reef will love that long period.
Sunday the 26th holds similar size but energy drops. Monday the 27th gives 3ft with glassy calm. After that, from the 28th into early August, it goes flat and weak. Several days with no real standouts – just small, low-energy slop. The 1st of August afternoon shows a little life at 2ft, but it’s nothin’ compared to that late July pulse.
Best advice: hit Thursday the 23rd through Saturday the 25th. Small, clean, long-period SSW groundswell, and Kihei Cove will be a fun little wave.
