Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kihei Cove over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Kihei Cove over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, straight up – this isn’t the kind of swell that’ll have you sending sick pics to your mates in a hurry. The surf through the whole run is small, with wave heights mostly hanging around that 1ft to 3ft mark. It’s a very consistent little reef break, but you’re looking at a long-period groundswell coming in from the SW and SSW for most of the period. That long period (often 14 seconds or more, even up to 22 seconds) means the waves will have energy, but at these tiny heights they’ll be fat and slow. The water temp is sitting at a balmy 79°, which is pretty much dead average for this time of year – no surprises there.
Let’s walk through it. Starting off on Sunday the 12th and into Monday the 13th, we’ve got a gentle offshore breeze (NNE) keeping things clean, but the swell is small at 2ft and the combined energy is on the weaker side (values between 279 and 319). It’s surfable, but don't expect much push. Tuesday morning the 14th is glassy with a bit of a bump to 2ft, and the energy jumps up to 454 in the afternoon – that’s a real standout window. That long 16-second period from the west will be lining up nicely, and the clean conditions will make it your best bet for the first few days if you’re after some really tidy little waves.
Now, Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are a bit of a mixed bag. Wednesday has a funky cross-onshore wind from the west and south, with rain showers, so the waves will be messy. Thursday morning gets glassy again with 2ft swell, clean, and that’s worth a look. Friday the 17th morning is another contender – glassy, 3ft, combined energy of 350, and a 11-second period – a bit punchier, but still small.
The middle of the run, from about Saturday the 18th through to Sunday the 19th, gets very lackluster. The swell drops to 1ft, and energy sinks to around 195-250. It’s basically flat, with only tiny glassy bumps.
Then, we get a real resurgence. Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st see the swell climb back to 3ft-3ft, with moderate wave energy (506 and 462) and that long period swell (15-16 seconds). The morning sessions on these days are glassy to offshore (NNE), giving you super clean lines. This is the other standout window in the whole outlook – the best combination of size, clean wind, and consistent sets.
As we move into the second week, things settle down a bit. From Wednesday the 22nd to Saturday the 25th, we’re looking at 1ft to 3ft swell, mostly clean or glassy conditions, but the energy is moderate to low. The period stays long, so the waves will be gentle and suited to a longboard. Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th wrap it up with a return to 2ft-3ft, clean offshore winds, and moderate energy – a decent way to end the run.
So, for the absolute pick of the bunch? Tuesday afternoon the 14th and Monday morning the 20th. Tuesday gives you that glass-off, 2ft of clean west swell with solid energy (454). Monday the 20th is a touch bigger at 3ft, glassy on the morning, with even stronger energy (506). Both are the best you’ll get. Crowds are always possible here, so you might have company, but with conditions like that it’ll be worth it.
Keep in mind, with the long period (over 15 seconds), the swell might break a bit straight at a beach break, but being a reef, Kihei Cove should handle it well. It’s small enough for all skill levels too.
Stay stoked.
