Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks. The pick of the bunch is right here at Kihei Cove, and it kicks off right away.
Starting Monday, July 6th, we’ve got a solid little run. The swell is coming in from the SSW at about 3 ft, with a nice long period of 16 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy, and it’s got some punch, with a moderate combined energy of 453. The wind is blowing steady from the NE, offshore, which is going to keep the faces clean and lined up all morning. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there. This is the best bet of the whole forecast – small but clean, consistent, and well-shaped for a reef break like Kihei Cove. The crowd situation can get busy here, so get in early.
Tuesday, July 7th, keeps that same vibe going. Still 3 ft SSW swell, period dropping a touch to 14 seconds, but the wind stays offshore and the energy is solid at 352. Afternoon sees it back off slightly to 2-3 ft, but still clean.
Wednesday, July 8th morning is a special one. The swell drops to 2-3 ft, but we get absolute glass – zero wind. That’s a major positive. The waves will be clean as a whistle, even if the energy is down to 200. For a log or a longboard, this is going to be a dreamy session. The water is calm, and you’ll be able to see every bump.
Thursday, July 9th through Friday, July 10th, the swell drops further to 1-2 ft. The wind stays offshore or glassy, so the conditions are still tidy, but the wave size is getting pretty small. The energy dips below 200 – it’s weak, marginal stuff. It’s surfable, but you’ll be scratching for power.
The next standout comes on Saturday, July 11th. The swell direction swings to SW, and the period jumps back up to a very long 18 seconds. The height is only 1-2 ft, but that period means serious push. The combined energy climbs to 327. The wind is moderate offshore from the NNE, so it’s going to be clean but with a bit of texture. This is a classic case of a long-period groundswell at a reef break – it will have more shape and power than the height suggests. Good for the patient surfer. That energy carries into Sunday, July 12th, with 2-3 ft and 16-second swell.
By Monday, July 13th, the wind gets a touch cross-offshore in the morning, making it a bit more average, but the afternoon cleans back up. The swell hangs around 3 ft.
Tuesday, July 14th morning is another glassy gem – early session with 2-3 ft SW swell and zero wind. That afternoon, the swell direction shifts to a W source with an 18-second period, and the energy hits 496 – that’s moderate to strong. It’s a good, clean afternoon.
Wednesday, July 15th serves up another glassy morning with 2 ft SSW swell and an 18-second period. The energy is a solid 500. That’s a big number for small waves – it’s going to feel a lot punchier than you’d think. Clean and fun on the high tide.
From Thursday, July 16th onward, we start to see a slow fade. The swell sticks around 2 ft from the SSW, periods drop from 16 to 14 seconds, and the wind stays mostly offshore. The energy stays in the 400-450 range through Thursday, which keeps it interesting. But by Friday, July 17th, the swell drops to 1-2 ft, the wind goes cross-off, and the energy plummets to 175. It’s small and just okay.
Saturday, July 18th morning has a glass-off but with only 1-2 ft at 13 seconds – it’s tiny. The energy is 172. Afternoon is similar with a light offshore.
Sunday, July 19th afternoon picks up again. The swell comes back to 2-3 ft from the S, 16-second period, with a moderate offshore NE breeze. Energy jumps to 312. That’s a decent end-of-forecast flurry.
Monday, July 20th keeps it going with 2-3 ft S swell, 14 seconds, and clean winds all day. Energy is still in the 330s.
The real standout window is the first four days: Monday, July 6th through Thursday, July 9th. For a bit of fun size and clean conditions, that’s where you want to be. The glassy mornings on Wednesday, July 8th and Tuesday, July 14th are the cherry on top for smooth waves.
This is Rusty, signing off.
