Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove over the next 16 days.
Righto, let’s get into it. Things are lookin’ a bit flat and uninspired to start, but don’t write the week off just yet.
We’re kickin’ off on Wednesday the 8th of July at The Cove. It’s a tricky little reef setup, only for the advanced crew, and it’s inconsistent so you’ve gotta be patient. The water here is sittin’ at 79°, which is pretty much right on the money for this time of year.
Wednesday mornin’ we’ve got 3ft of SSW swell, with a light cross-off breeze from the NE keepin’ it clean. The energy’s moderate (252), but it’s just ordinary – surfable, but nothin’ to get excited about. That afternoon the wind shifts properly offshore from the NNE at 9 mph, with a similar 2ft swell, but still just ordinary.
Thursday mornin’ the 9th is glassy with a light offshore breeze from the NW and a small 2ft S swell – clean, but tiny. The energy drops (120). Afternoon stays small with a 2ft S swell and a gentle offshore.
Friday the 10th stays in the same rut – 2ft S swell on the mornin’, clean, but weak energy (148). Rain showers in the afternoon but still small.
Then we get a turnin’ point. Saturday the 11th mornin’ brings 2ft swell, but the period stretches to 18 seconds – that’s a proper long-period groundswell, which will give better shape and more push. Wind’s a clean offshore from the NNE at 9 mph. Energy’s climbin’ (270). It’s still small, but the quality jumps. By Saturday afternoon, the swell bumps to 2ft and the wind holds offshore at 12 mph – energy now 327, and the surf is clean and lined up. This is where it starts to feel worth a paddle.
Sunday the 12th keeps the good run – 2ft SW swell with a 16-second period, clean offshore breeze from the NNE. Energy moderate (319). Another solid mornin’ with consistent waves.
Monday the 13th we’ve got 3ft SW swell, 15-second period, and a moderate offshore from the NNE at 12 mph. Energy’s buildin’ (359). This is lookin’ better each day.
Tuesday the 14th mornin’ is a standout so far – glassy, with a gentle offshore from the NNW at 3 mph, 2ft SW swell, and energy jumpin’ to 479. That’s a noticeable punch for a smaller wave. Clean, smooth conditions. The afternoon gets a cross-off breeze, so the mornin’ window is the pick.
Wednesday the 15th mornin’ is glassy again, with a NNE light breeze and 2ft W swell – energy screamin’ up to 531. This is gettin’ good. Afternoon stays clean with a gentle offshore and 2ft W swell (523).
Thursday the 16th mornin’: clear, light offshore from the NNE, 2ft W swell with a 16-second period, energy at 487. Clean again.
Friday the 17th mornin’ – another glassy mornin’, 2ft W swell, energy 310. Still fun and clean.
But here’s the real highlight – Sunday the 20th of July. The mornin’ is glassy, with a 4ft S swell comin’ from the south, period 15 seconds, and energy roarin’ to 705. That’s strong, punchy energy for The Cove. The wind is dead calm for the afternoon too – glassy, 4ft S swell, energy 583. That Sunday is the pick of the whole 16-day run. It’s the biggest swell, the cleanest conditions, and the water’s still warm. Just remember this spot is inconsistent and only for experts – but if you time it right, you’ll get the best waves of the forecast.
Tuesday the 21st mornin’ stays glassy with a 3ft S swell, period 14 seconds, energy 379. Clean again.
Wednesday the 22nd mornin’ clean with 3ft S swell, and the afternoon cranks with a moderate offshore from the NNE at 16 mph – energy 468. Good fun.
The very end – Thursday the 23rd – stays clean with 2ft SW swell and offshore wind.
There’s a gap of a few days mid to late week where it’s just ordinary, but don’t let that fool ya – the weekend of the 20th is genuine. Keep an eye on that Sunday.
Rusty.
