The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let's have a look at what's cooking.
So, we're looking at The Cove, a reef break that's a bit of a specialist's wave. It's inconsistent, which means you gotta be patient and pick your moments. The water's sitting at 79°F which is pretty much spot on for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
The whole 16-day window is pretty small, man. We're talking knee-to-waist high stuff mostly, nothing that'll get your heart pounding. But the quality is in the conditions. The best of it kicks off on Monday the 13th. We've got a 2ft swell from the SW, with a nice long 15-second period. That's proper groundswell energy, and at a reef, that's a good thing. The wind is offshore from the N at 9 mph, so it's gonna be clean. The combined energy is moderate at 279. It's small, but it'll be fun.
The real standout, the one I'd be circling on the calendar, is Tuesday the 14th. The morning is looking glassy as anything with a NNW breeze at 3 mph and 2ft of SW swell. That's about as clean as it gets. The combined energy bumps up a touch to 333. The Cove is an advanced wave, and it's inconsistent, so when you get these glassy windows, it's a treat. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, but with conditions this clean, there might be a few locals out. Then Tuesday afternoon stays clean with a light offshore.
Wednesday the 15th afternoon is another glassy window with 2ft of W swell, so that's worth a look too. The energy is moderate at 435 for that session.
The second week stays small, but the quality hangs around. From the 20th of July, Monday, we get a run of clean conditions. The swell picks up a touch to 3ft on the 20th and 21st, from the S, with clean offshore winds. The 21st morning is particularly choice, flat calm, glassy. The combined energy is moderate, around 388-464. The 22nd and 24th also have good glassy or clean windows. The 23rd has a very long period 21-second swell, but it's only 1ft, which is pretty weak. The 24th afternoon has a 2ft SSW swell with a long 18-second period and a gentle offshore – that's a nice little session.
The last few days from the 26th start to fade. The swell is still 2ft but the energy drops, and by the 28th we're down to 2ft with energy just at 104-111. It's petering out.
So, for the best on offer, I'd say the standout is the glassy morning of Tuesday the 14th. It's not going to be big, but it'll be perfect. The other standout is the whole stretch from the 20th to the 24th, with consistent clean conditions and just a little more push in the swell. This is a reef, so it's not for beginners, and it's inconsistent so you'll be waiting for sets, but when they come, they'll be clean.
Rusty.
