The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for Osterizers/Rainbows.

Right off the bat, it’s a quiet start. The first few days are flat or showing tiny 1ft swell with poor surf conditions, so there’s really nothing to chase. The water temp is sitting at 80°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year. We’ve got a gap of a few days with no real recommendations until Thursday the 25th.

Thursday the 25th of July shows a bit of life. The morning brings a 5ft swell from the NE with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 241, but the wind is still cross-off, and the conditions are deemed marginal. Not a standout, but it’s the first sign of something. The afternoon pushes up to 6ft, but the energy jumps to 353, and the wind is still cross-off, and the surf is only marginal. It might be a bit juicy for the more experienced crew, but it’s not clean.

The real standout of the whole window is Saturday, August 4th. The whole week prior is a bit of a write-off, but then we get a morning with 5ft of NE swell, short period at 8 seconds, but the wind is a light breeze from the ENE, which is cross-off and will be super clean. The combined energy is a solid 278, and the forecast says “expect good surf conditions.” This is the one to circle on the calendar. It’s the best looking day of the whole run. The swell is 5ft, so it’s definitely manageable for most, and the light wind is a major positive. The afternoon holds up with the same size and a 269 energy, still with clean conditions.

Now, the longer range into the second week is a bit of a mixed bag. The 5th of August shows a morning with a 1ft long-period groundswell from the SW (16 seconds), but the energy is weak at 84. The afternoon bumps up to 4ft from the NE, but it’s only “surfable” – nothing to get too excited about. That Saturday the 4th is the clear winner.

So, to sum it up: paddle out on Saturday, August 4th. The rest of the window is mostly small or marginal, with a few days of okay but not great surf. The short period swells on the 25th and 26th might be fun for a quick session, but the 4th is the one you want to be on the water for.

Rusty.
