Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for Osterizers/Rainbows.

Honestly, for the next week, it’s a bit of a slow grind. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak surf and cross-off winds pushing through. Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th are basically flat, with tiny 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft swells and no energy to speak of (combined energy reading 1 to 48). Not worth paddling out for.

Things start to show a pulse come Sunday the 6th. The swell bumps up to 4 ft to 4 ft from the SW, with a period around 12 to 14 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 393 to 570 – that’s moderate wave energy building. But the winds are still cross-off from the ENE at 20 km/h, and the forecast calls for marginal conditions with cloudy skies and a risk of thunderstorms. It’s not clean enough to get excited about yet.

Now, Monday the 7th afternoon is where we finally see a little spark. The swell builds to 5 ft in the morning, then hits 7 ft from the WSW in the afternoon, with a period of 15 seconds – that’s nice long-period groundswell. The combined energy pumps up to 1002 in the morning, then a solid 1846 by the afternoon – that’s strong wave energy. And here’s the kicker: the wind swings around to offshore from the ESE at just 15 km/h. That’s a gentle offshore breeze, meaning clean, lined-up waves. This is the standout of the whole forecast. Osterizers/Rainbows is a reef break, so that long-period groundswell will groom up nicely. It’s an advanced spot, and crowds are possible, so keep your wits about you. The water temp is 80°, which is about average for this time of year – no anomaly there.

Tuesday the 8th still has some decent swell, with 6 ft in the morning from the WSW and then 4 ft from the W in the afternoon. The period drops to 11 seconds, but the combined energy is still moderate to strong (817 in the morning, 736 in the afternoon). The afternoon sees a light offshore breeze from the SE at 10 km/h, making for very good conditions. But the morning is cross-off and a bit messier.

After that, it all fades away. From Wednesday the 9th all the way through to Saturday the 19th, the swell drops to 1.0 ft to 2 ft, with periods all over the place and combined energy mostly under 200. The wind stays cross-off from the ENE, 20 to 30 km/h. It’s a long, flat spell. There’s a tiny blip on the 15th and 16th with some 2 ft to 2 ft swell and periods over 18 seconds, but the energy is still weak to moderate and the winds are poor. Nothing worth chasing.

So, the takeaway: if you’re an experienced surfer and you can get out Monday afternoon the 7th, that’s your best shot. Clean, strong, offshore conditions with a solid 7 ft groundswell from the WSW. After that, it’s a waiting game for nearly two weeks.
