Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kawaihae Breakwater over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get real. This is a quiet stretch. The next 16 days are mostly flat, with a few windows that might get you a couple of rides if you’re keen.
The first chance is Saturday, 11 July at Kawaihae Breakwater. It’s a reef break, so it’s got some shape. Swell is a tiny 1 ft from the west, with a 14-second period. Wind is offshore from the NE at 25 km/h, which is a good sign. The combined energy is 112 (moderate). It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about. Water temp is about average for the time of year.
It gets a bit better by Wednesday, 15 July. The morning shows 3 ft of west swell with a 16-second period, and the wind is light offshore (NE 10 km/h). That’s clean. The combined energy is 354 (moderate), and the forecast is for good surf. Thursday, 16 July is similar, with 2 ft to 3 ft and clean conditions. This stretch from Wednesday to Friday morning is your best bet.
After that, it’s a slide back into flatness. By Saturday, 18 July we’re down to 2 ft, and from Sunday, 19 July onward it’s 1 ft or less, with energy dropping to 58 and below. The last week—from 20 July to 24 July—is basically flat. Nothing worth chasing.
The standout is Wednesday, 15 July through Friday, 17 July at Kawaihae Breakwater. The 3 ft west swell, 16-second period, and light offshore winds will give you the cleanest, most lined-up waves of the whole period. It’s not big, but it’s the only time it’s genuinely worth the paddle.
Rusty.
