The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, the surf forecast for Spencer Beach Park is a bit of a flat spell to start. We’ve got a tiny bit of swell showing, but nothing worth getting wet for just yet. The first few days are dominated by weak energy (48 to 67) and small waves around 1ft. The period is decent – 13 to 13 seconds – so there’s some groundswell character, but the height is just too low to make it fun. Sunday afternoon the 16th turns glassy, but with only 1ft, it’s barely a ripple.

We do get a few moments where the wind goes glassy or clean, particularly on Tuesday morning the 18th and Wednesday morning the 19th, but again, the swell is tiny (1ft) and the energy is weak (25 to 73). It’s surfable if you’re desperate, but it’s really ordinary.

The first real glimmer of hope comes on Wednesday the 26th of August. The swell bumps up to 2ft from the WNW with a 12-second period, and combined wave energy climbs into the moderate range (111 to 114). That’s not huge, but for this break it’s a noticeable step up. The wind is light and variable, going glassy Wednesday afternoon, so conditions should be clean. This is likely the best window across the whole 16-day forecast – still small, but the cleanest and most energy we see.

After that, it drops back down to 1ft for the rest of the month, with energy staying weak (39 to 77). The wind stays mostly cross-off or light, keeping things clean, but the swell just isn’t there to make it worthwhile. The last day of the month, Monday the 31st, shows a late push with 1ft at 15 seconds from the WNW and energy of 123 – that’s moderate energy and a long period, which could shape up nicely if it holds, but at this range it’s less certain.

So overall, if you’re hanging for a paddle, aim for Wednesday the 26th. It’s the standout, but keep expectations low – this is a small spell.

Rusty.
