The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again, but this time in feet and Fahrenheit for those who think that way.

Let’s break down Spencer Beach Park. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the next two weeks look *flat*. We’re talking combined wave energy numbers that barely break into double digits most days (25 to 78), and there’s a solid gap of days with no swell at all from about the 25th of August through the morning of the 28th. That’s a dead period.

Water temp is 81°, which is pretty normal for this time of year. Nothing weird going on there.

The one window that gets my heart beating a tiny bit faster is the morning of the 19th of August, Wednesday. We’ve got a 1ft swell from the WNW, with a period of 12 seconds – that’s a legit little groundswell. The wind is dead calm, glassy. The energy is still weak (74), but for a reef break, those 1ft waves will be clean, lined up, and fun for an intermediate. It’s the cleanest surf in the whole outlook.

Another spot to watch is the 30th of August, Sunday, where we see 1.0ft to 1ft from the WNW with a period stretching to 16 seconds – that’s a long-period groundswell, meaning long waits but good shape. Winds are light offshore or glassy. The energy is still low (72-74).

Other than that? Yikes. The 15th has storm-force offshore winds at 55 mph – no way. Most afternoons have cross-onshore bumps or just flatness. There *are* a few other glassy moments, like the 22nd afternoon with 1ft from the SW, but the ride quality is rated poor. The break is fairly consistent, but the ocean just isn’t delivering.

If you’re desperate, go for the 19th morning or the 30th. Otherwise, this is a good time to wax your board and just wait. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a snoozer.

Rusty.
