G'day, Rusty here. Been staring at the charts for Kiholo Bay, and to be honest, it's a quiet stretch ahead. Don't get your hopes up for any pumping sessions right now—the next week and a half is mostly flat or tiny, with only a slight pulse of energy trying to show itself later on. The water temp is running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting around 81°.
The first solid hint of something to ride doesn't show up until Monday afternoon, July 14th. That's a long wait. Before that, we're looking at days of near-flat conditions with cross-onshore breezes making it even less inviting. A few glassy moments pop up here and there, but with nothing underneath them, it's just a pretty ocean.
Now, the standout window—and I mean the only one worth paddling out for—is Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, through to Thursday afternoon, July 16th. On Tuesday afternoon, we finally see a bit of push: a 3ft W swell at a very generous 17-second period, and the combined energy hits 454—moderate wave energy at last. The wind goes glassy, so it'll be clean. That's the pick. A long-period groundswell like that will wrap nicely into the bay, and with that light offshore wind, it'll be worth the wait. Wednesday afternoon the 15th offers a similar setup: 3ft of WNW swell at 16 seconds, combined energy of 447, and glassy winds again. Both those afternoons are your best bets for a few clean, fun waves.
Those early morning sessions on the 14th and 15th? The wind is onshore and a little stronger, so the waves won't be as tidy. Thursday afternoon the 16th also has some potential with a 3ft W swell and glassy conditions, but the rain showers could put a bit of lump on the surface.
Overall, it’s a long dry spell until that mid-July window. The swell direction is coming from the west and west-northwest, which is in line with what the spot likes (optimum being WNW). It's a consistent break when there's swell, but it rarely sees much, so this little run is notable. Crowds can pop up here sometimes, especially when a clean 3ft wave shows up.
There's nothing for beginners here in that window, the waves are small enough to be forgiving, but not the best for learning. Experts might find the long period a bit tricky for the beach section, but the point and reef will handle it well.
So, keep an eye on that Tuesday through Thursday window in the second week. It's not a world-class swell, but after all that flatness, it'll feel like a gift.
Rusty.
