Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight up about Kiholo Bay. We've got a long wait on our hands.
Looking over the next few days, it's pretty flat. We're talking zero surf for the first stretch. From Thursday the 2nd right through to Friday morning on the 10th of July, there's nothing doing. Not a single wave worth paddling for. It's a proper drought.
Now, things start to flicker a little life around Friday the 10th. We get a tiny 1ft pulse out of the west, with a 14-second period. That's a long-period groundswell, but there's barely any energy behind it (61). The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 81°, which is nice, but it doesn't help the surf. It's still just poor.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th stays in the same boat – small, weak west swell, mostly cross-shore breezes. Not worth jumping in the car for.
The real glimmer, and I mean the *only* glimmer in this entire 16-day window, shows up on Monday the 13th of July. The afternoon brings a 2ft west swell, but here's the kicker – the period jumps to a very long 19 seconds. That's proper energy starting to show up, with a combined energy reading of 251. Winds go glassy calm. The report says it's "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions", giving it a score I can work with. This is the best we're going to get.
Moving into Tuesday the 14th, the swell nudges up to 3ft from the west, still with a very long 16-second period. The afternoon looks promising with glassy conditions and a "good surf conditions" call. The energy is strong at 326. This is your other brief window.
Wednesday the 15th repeats the pattern: 3ft west swell, 16-second period, glassy in the afternoon (306 energy). Again, "expect good surf conditions."
After that, it's back to fading out. The window for anything rideable is really just that Monday to Wednesday, the 13th to the 15th of July. Keep in mind this is a long-period west swell. At a break like Kiholo Bay that's a beach and point setup, it could be a bit straight and tricky on the beach sections, but the point might offer up some better lines. And the crowds? It can get "sometimes" busy, so you might have some company out there for this brief pulse.
Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but as it sits, you've got a long flat spell, then a very short, sharp little window.
Rusty.
