The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s cut to it—this is a quiet stretch for Kiholo Bay. The water is sitting at about 80°, which is right where it should be for this time of year.
The best window is this Tuesday, July 14th. We’ve got a small, clean little pulse of swell from the west, about 2ft, with a period of 16 to 19 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell, so the waves will have some push and shape, even if they’re small. The combined energy is moderate (251). The wind is light in the morning, going glassy by afternoon. For a beach and point setup like Kiholo Bay, that long period can wrap in and give you some fun little lines. It’s a consistent spot, so you’ll get a wave or two. Crowds are just “sometimes” an issue, so you might have a few folks out.
Wednesday the 15th is similar—2 to 3ft, west swell, period around 15 to 16 seconds, and offshore wind in the morning. That’s clean. Energy stays moderate (310). Thursday is the same size but with a light cross-on, still rideable.
Friday the 17th afternoon, the swell drops to about 2ft, but the wind goes glassy. The energy is down to 146 (moderate), period at 14 seconds. It’s surfable, but tiny and weak.
From Saturday the 18th onward, it’s a ghost town. Saturday morning has 2ft with energy down to 89 (weak). By Sunday the 19th, we’re looking at 1ft or less, with energy in the 30s and 50s. From Monday July 20th all the way through July 29th, there’s no swell—most days show zero wave energy. You’ll see glassy afternoons and even some rain showers, but no waves to ride.
So, if you’ve got a longboard, Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning is your best bet. After that, put the board away for a week and a half.
Rusty.
