The Lowdown
Alright, let me level with you about the next couple of weeks here. It's looking pretty grim, to be honest.
The week starts with a tiny bit of weak energy, but it's not really worth getting wet for. On Thursday morning, we've got a small, long-period groundswell from the west pushing about 3ft. The period is a solid 15 seconds, so there's a bit of pull in the water, but the combined energy is only 275 (weak). The wind is a light cross-onshore, so it's a bit bumpy. Water temp is around 80°, which is about 1° warmer than average for this time of year – nothing dramatic, just a touch warmer than usual.
By Friday morning, the swell drops to 2ft, and the wind turns more onshore, making it a real struggle. The energy drops to 203 (weak). The afternoon glass off is nice, but the swell is only 2ft. You could catch a few, but you'd be scratching for them.
The weekend is a total write-off. Saturday and Sunday the swell fades away to nothing, with energy numbers of 97 and 55. It's just poor conditions. Then we hit a massive dead zone. From Monday, July 21st, all the way through to the morning of the 30th, there's zero swell. Absolutely nothing. For a spot like this, it's not abnormal to have a flat spell, but it's frustrating.
There's a tiny flicker on the 28th, with a 1ft glassy afternoon, but it's a 3-second windswell with an energy of just 2. That's not waves, that's a ripple.
The only thing that even looks like a pulse is on the morning of July 29th. A small 2ft north swell shows up, with a period of 8 seconds, and the energy climbs to 68 (still weak). The wind is onshore, so it's going to be choppy. It's not a standout, just a tiny blip in a very flat forecast.
So, the honest truth is, there's nothing worth paddling for in this 16-day window. It's a long stretch of flat, small, or messy conditions. Sometimes the ocean just shuts down. We'll have to wait and see if the next forecast brings anything better.
Rusty.
