The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Honestly, the outlook for the next 16 days is a bit of a bummer. We've got a real flat spell on the horizon. The first few days offer some small, cleanish waves, but nothing that’s gonna get the heart pounding. For the most part, the swell window is just not cooperating.
The best bet, and really the only one worth paddling out for, is Mahai'ula Bay. The action kicks off on Wednesday, 15 July. We’ve got a long-period WNW groundswell rolling in at 3 ft, with a 16-second period, packing moderate energy (406). That’s a proper groundswell, so it’ll have some punch and shape, especially on the sets. The wind is a bit of a cross-on breeze from the NW, so it’ll be a little choppy, but it’s manageable. The water temp is about average for this time of year. This is a beginner-friendly break, but that 16-second period swell can make it a bit tricky at a beach break, as it tends to wall up and close out in sections. The crowd factor is "sometimes" here, so you might have a few friends out, but it shouldn't be a zoo.
Moving into Thursday, 16 July, the swell holds at 3 ft, but the period drops a little to 15 seconds, and the energy is still moderate (360). The wind swings to a light cross-on from the SW, which will keep the surface a bit rippled, but it's still surfable. The conditions are nothing special, but it’s the most on offer.
By Friday, 17 July, the swell is already fading. We’re down to 2.5 ft from the W, and the period drops to 14 seconds, with energy slipping to 264. The wind is offshore from the W in the morning, which is a nice touch, but the wave size is fading fast. By Saturday, 18 July, we’re down to 2 ft, and the energy is weak (135). For the rest of the week and into the next, the swell just disappears.
From Sunday, 19 July, through to the end of the period, the forecast is a flat, dry spell. There are a few tiny pulses of windswell later in the second week, like a 1.5 ft from the SW on 26 July, but the energy is weak (17) and the conditions are poor. It’s just a long stretch of nothing.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 27°C on Thu morning, min 25°C on Wed morning). Wind will be generally light. | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryLight rain (total 7mm), mostly falling on Sat night.
