The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get real about the next couple of weeks. To be honest, the shop is gonna be quiet for a while. The data's all showing a pretty flat and weak run of surf for the foreseeable future. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing here, so don’t hold your breath.
Right off the bat, from now through the 26th of August, it’s basically a lake out there. We’re talking ankle-biters, with waves hovering around 0.7ft to 1ft. The energy is dismal, mostly in the 20s and 30s, with only a brief bump to 104 on the afternoon of the 23rd, but it’s still just a weak pulse. There’s no push, no power. It’s a paddling session at best. If you’re really keen, the mornings are cleaner, but it’s a whole lot of nothing.
Now, we do see a pulse of proper energy trying to push in toward the very end of the month. The first glimmer of hope arrives on Thursday the 27th. The swell starts to fill in from the SSW, and while the morning is still rough, the afternoon brings a more surfable 3ft wave with clean conditions. The energy jumps up to 231, which finally feels like we have something to work with.
Then, things get interesting. The standout window is Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th. This is the real deal. Friday afternoon we see 4ft of SW swell with a 12-second period and clean, offshore winds. The energy is pumping at 546. This is when you want to be in the water. Saturday holds that momentum, with 5ft of WSW swell in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon, and a combined energy reading of 577 and 522 respectively. This is the pick of the entire window. It’s still a fair size, so it might be a bit much for the groms, but for anyone with a bit of experience, this is your window. This is the standout, mark my words.
After that, it backs right off again. The energy drops through Sunday the 30th and into the following week, so we're back to small, weak dribbles. Looks like the last week of August into early September is a write-off.
One thing to note, when we do see that pulse on the 28th and 29th, the water is running warm, quite a bit warmer than usual for the time of year, so you might not even need a springsuit. It’s all about that 48-hour window at the end of the week. Be ready for it.
