Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s gonna be a bit of a grind. The surf is small and the conditions are touchy, so we’re not talking about any all-time sessions. But if you’re keen to get wet, there are a few windows where it cleans up and becomes worth the paddle.

Lymans is the only game in town, a reef and point set-up that’s fairly consistent. It’s a beginner-friendly wave most of the time, which is good, and it’s fairly exposed to the swell.

Water temp is sitting at 81°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick suit at home.

Thursday the 2nd is a write-off. We’ve got a tiny 2 ft SSW swell with a short period, and a cross-onshore wind from the SSW at 9 mph chopping it up. The combined swell energy is weak (129), so honestly, it’s not worth the effort.

Friday the 3rd is a little better. The morning shows 3 ft from the SSW (17 seconds – a nice groundswell) with a light cross-shore breeze. The combined energy jumps to moderate (381). It’s still marginal, but the longer period means it’ll have a bit more push and shape on the point. The afternoon gets a bit messy again with cross-onshore wind.

Now, Saturday the 4th is where things start to look interesting. We’ve got 3 ft to 3 ft from the SSW with a 20-second period – that’s a very long period groundswell, meaning real lines of energy. Combined energy is strong (769–899). The wind is light cross-onshore, which isn’t perfect, but that long period swell on a reef and point like Lymans will set up nicely. This is probably the best of the first week. It’s still a small wave, but the quality will be there.

Sunday the 5th is similar, with 3 ft to 3 ft SSW swell and a 17 to 18-second period. The morning has a light cross-shore, and the afternoon goes glassy with 3 mph onshore wind from the W. Combined energy is strong (632–652). This is another standout window. The swell direction (SSW) matches the optimum (WNW) reasonably well for this break, and the long period will give you some proper lines.

Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th are more of the same – marginal, small, mostly messy. But keep an eye on Tuesday afternoon: the wind goes glassy (0 mph from the WSW) and there’s 3 ft of SSW swell with a 14-second period. Combined energy is moderate (308). It’s small, but if it’s glassy, it’ll be clean and fun on the point.

Wednesday the 8th afternoon also goes glassy with 2 ft from the SSW and a 14-second period. Combined energy is 225 (moderate). Again, tiny but clean.

Then it drops off hard. From Thursday the 9th through to Friday the 11th, the swell fades out completely, dropping to 2 ft or less with weak energy. There’s a real gap of poor to no surf here.

We get a little pulse on Saturday the 11th, with 2 ft to 2 ft from the SSW (18 seconds), but the cross-onshore wind keeps it ordinary. Combined energy is moderate (289–336), but it’s still marginal.

The real highlight of the second week comes on Tuesday the 15th of July. The afternoon is looking glassy again (0 mph from the E) with 3 ft of W swell at 16 seconds. Combined energy is moderate (417). That light wind and a decent period from the west on the point will give you the cleanest waves of the entire run. It’s small, but it’ll be perfect.

After that, it fades again through to the 17th, with tiny swell and poor conditions.

So, for the best on offer: Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th are your standouts for the first week – the long period groundswell and moderate combined energy make up for the small size. Then, Tuesday the 15th afternoon is the gem of the second week: glassy, clean, and a nice little pulse from the west. Don’t expect much else.

Keep the faith, the waiting’s normal around here.

Rusty.
