The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down the surf prospects for the West side over the next couple of weeks.

It’s going to be a slow start. There’s nothing worth rushing for until Monday morning, August 18th. From now through the weekend, we’re looking at a dry spell—roughly a week of flat or very poor conditions. Not worth dragging the board out.

Our only real standout spot to talk about is Sewers (Maili). Water temp is around 81°, which is about 1° warmer than normal for this time of year. Nothing unusual.

The first good opportunity hits on Monday morning, August 18th with a clean 4ft NE swell, period around 9 seconds (moderate energy around 220). The wind is a gentle offshore out of the ENE, so the surface will be tidy. That morning window is the pick of the entire forecast. It gets a bit less crisp in the afternoon, but still rideable. Crowds are a regular downside here, so get out early.

Then on Wednesday morning, August 19th, we get a tiny but interesting peak: a very long-period groundswell from the SW, 16 seconds, but only 2ft. Energy is still decent at 201, and with light offshore wind, it’ll shape up nicely, just small. That long period means better-shaped waves, but at a beach and reef spot like Sewers, it’ll be fine. A fun little bonus session.

After that, the window closes again from Thursday the 20th through the weekend, with weak or messy surf. By Saturday the 22nd, there’s a small 3ft NE swell with light offshore wind, but it’s fairly ordinary.

Heading into the last week of August, from Monday the 24th onward, we get a steadier run of chest-high NE swell around 4ft with moderate offshore winds. Nothing spectacular—just surfable but average—but the trade winds keep it clean. Energy sits in the moderate range (114-128). Mornings will be your best shot.

Bottom line: Monday the 18th morning is the one to aim for. Everything else is either flat or just okay.

This is Rusty, signing off.

Short Range Forecast

Mostly dry. Warm (max 28°C on Mon afternoon, min 24°C on Tue night). Wind will be generally light.
