The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s not sugarcoat it. This forecast is a fight for scraps. We’ve got a couple of weeks where the ocean is going to offer up some size, but the quality is going to be all over the place.
We start Friday the 4th with about 4ft of swell, but a strong 25 mph cross-offshore breeze is going to make it lumpy. Water temps are around 81°, which is pretty normal for this time of year. The weekend continues in the same vein, with 7ft to 7ft on Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th, but the winds stay fresh and the swell is disorganized. Not worth paddling out for, in my book.
Monday the 7th is a write-off. The swell jumps to nearly 10ft, but a strong SE onshore wind turns the place into a washing machine. The energy in the water is huge, but it's unusable. You’d be mad to go out there unless you’re towing in. The rest of that week is small and onshore, just mush on the reef.
The real hope is for Saturday the 19th. The models are hinting at a return to some size, around 6ft, from the ENE with a cross-off wind. The period is short, but if it cleans up, Big Lefts could still offer some fun, rippable waves. But that’s a long way out, so don't book the day off work yet. It's a "promising" call, not a certainty.
Overall, there’s no real gem in this window. Most of the time we’re dealing with either too much wind, or not enough swell, and the timing just never syncs up. It's one of those forecasts that'll have you checking the cam before you make the drive. Stick with it, the ocean always comes around.
Rusty.
