G'day, Rusty here.
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Exiles over the next couple of weeks. To be honest, it's a pretty slow start, with no real surf to speak of for the first few days. The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so that's a bit of a treat.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Monday, July 6th, with a clean morning session on the cards. We’ve got a 2ft south-southwest swell, but the period is a long 16 seconds, so there’ll be some decent energy in the water. The combined swell energy is moderate (321). The wind is light and cross-off from the south-southwest, which will keep the surface glassy. This is an advanced, inconsistent point break, so you need to know what you're doing, but the conditions will be nice.
The pick of the bunch looks like Tuesday, July 7th. The morning is the go again, with the swell bumping up slightly to 3ft from the south-southwest, with that same long 18-second period. The combined energy is now strong (461), so there's some real push behind those waves. With that very long period, the waves will have a lot of shape, and it’s a point break, so it should handle the long lines nicely. The wind is light and cross-off from the south, making for clean, smooth faces. It’s not big, but for this spot, with these conditions, it’s going to be the cleanest you’ll see it. However, the crowds can be "sometimes" a thing here, so don’t expect to have it completely to yourself.
Wednesday July 8th and Thursday July 9th mornings also offer clean conditions with similar 3ft and 2ft swell, but the energy starts to drop off a touch (495 and 360 respectively). The wind stays favourable, so it’s still worth a paddle.
After that, things get a bit ordinary again. Through the second week, from around the 11th onwards, the swell drops off and the winds get messy with a lot of cross-onshore and choppy conditions for the afternoons. The mornings might offer a tiny clean window with some small swells, but it’s really just tiny dribble. The 16th and 17th of July mornings have a tiny 1ft south-west swell with a very long period of 19 seconds, which might produce the odd fun little wave, but it’s definitely not a standout.
Overall, the best bet is to target the morning sessions from Monday July 6th through to Thursday July 9th, with Tuesday July 7th being the absolute highlight. After that, the surf goes quiet. No real kite surfing potential here given the small swell.
Rusty.
