Table - best surf conditions forecast for Haggerty's over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks. It’s gonna be a tale of two halves, but don’t get too excited just yet.
Right off the bat, we’re looking at small, clean waves for Friday afternoon at Haggerty's. Swell is a tiny 2ft from the SSW with a very long 15-second period, carrying moderate energy (210). The wind is a cross-offshore light breeze, so it’ll be clean and tidy. The water is sitting at 69°, which is a solid 4° above average for this time of year – that’s much warmer than normal, so it’s a nice bonus. This is a beginner-friendly spot and very consistent, but with crowds often about, so don’t expect to have it to yourself. The size is small, so it’s perfect for a longboard or a funboard.
Now, here’s the kicker – after that first session, things go downhill fast. From Saturday the 11th right through to the morning of Friday the 17th, it’s a pretty flat and blown-out run. We’re talking days of 1ft to 2ft swell with cross-on winds ruining the shape. The energy drops off into the weak zone. The conditions are just poor for a proper paddle session. There will be a couple of clean moments on the 15th and 17th mornings with a light cross-off breeze and a long-period swell, but the swell is only 1ft – that’s barely enough to push a log over. There’s a real gap of surfable, clean waves here for about a week.
Now, let's fast forward. The standout moment in this whole forecast is looking like the morning of Saturday the 18th of July. That’s the call. The swell bumps up to 2ft from the SW, but the period stretches back out to 18 seconds, and the energy jumps into a moderate 307. The wind is a light cross-shore breeze. It won’t be glassy, but it’s the most energy we’ve seen in over a week. It’s still small, and the period is long, so at a reef and point break like Haggerty's, those long lines should wrap in nicely and offer up some proper shape. This is the one you want to pencil in, but at a week and a half out, keep your fingers crossed – long-range forecasts can be fickle.
After that, the pattern tries to repeat itself. The morning of Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st both offer clean, cross-off conditions and similar 2ft to 3ft SSW swell, with moderate energy. The best of the bunch is probably Tuesday afternoon on the 21st, with a 3ft SSW swell and a 15-second period, carrying a solid 268 energy and a light cross-shore breeze. That’s a decent window of fun little waves.
The second week is a mixed bag of small, clean mornings and blown-out afternoons. A couple of clean calls on the 22nd and 23rd mornings give you a chance at a 2ft wave with a light offshore breeze before the afternoon wind kicks in. The energy stays in the moderate range but nothing huge.
Overall, the first real session is Friday the 10th. Then a long flat spell. The best on offer is the morning of Saturday the 18th July and the afternoon of Tuesday the 21st July for the best combination of size, energy, and manageable wind. Keep an eye on that long-range call.
Rusty.
