The Lowdown

Alright, let’s talk about what’s coming up. It’s a quiet spell for the most part, but there are a couple of sessions that’ll make it worth paddling out. The first few days are tiny and the wind is a bit of a pain, but the longer-range forecast has some real promise.

The main spot here is Haggerty's, a reef and point that’s very consistent and loves a good swell from the WNW. It’s a beginner-friendly wave, but expect company – crowds are often around. The water is sitting at 70°, which is a huge 5° warmer than usual for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable without a wetsuit.

We start on Thursday, 16th July, with a tiny 1ft swell from the SW, but the wind is a clean cross-offshore. The energy is weak (125), so it’s not going to get your heart racing, but the surface is clean. Thursday afternoon stays small and clean, with the energy picking up a little to 166. Friday, 17th July, is much the same – 1ft and clean in the morning, but the wind gets a bit stronger in the afternoon, making it less appealing. The weekend of 18th and 19th July sees the swell nudge up to 2ft, and the energy is moderate (256 on Saturday morning). Saturday morning is clean, but the afternoon turns to a light cross-shore. Sunday morning is clean again, but the afternoon gets a cross-onshore breeze that chops it up.

Monday, 20th July, is where things get a little more interesting. The swell climbs to 2ft, and the energy jumps to 458, but the wind is a cross-shore, creating small ripples. The afternoon gets messy with a stronger cross-onshore and 4ft swell. Tuesday, 21st July, has a clean morning with 3ft swell and 340 energy, but the afternoon is a write-off with strong cross-onshore wind. The rest of that week, from 22nd to 24th July, is a mixed bag of small swell and mostly cross-onshore winds, nothing to get excited about.

Now, the first real standout comes on Saturday, 25th July. The morning is looking good: 2ft swell from the SW, clean cross-offshore wind, and the energy is a solid 480. The period is a very long 21 seconds, which is proper groundswell – it’ll wrap around the point nicely and give you some long, clean lines. The afternoon gets messy, but the morning session is the one to aim for. The next day, Sunday, 26th July, is even better. The morning shows 2ft swell, clean cross-offshore wind, and a strong energy of 650. That’s a clear winner – the conditions are clean, the swell is there, and the point will handle the long period well.

There’s another promising window on Monday, 27th July, with a 3ft swell and 685 energy, but the wind is a light cross-shore, so it’s not quite as clean as the weekend. The following days, 28th to 30th July, have some clean mornings but the swell drops back to 2-3ft and the energy is moderate. The best of the bunch is the morning of Wednesday, 29th July, which has a clean forecast and a score that suggests good conditions. The run ends on 31st July with small, messy surf.

So, if you’re looking for the best of it, the mornings of Saturday, 25th July, and Sunday, 26th July, are the standouts. Clean, glassy conditions, decent groundswell, and the point will be working. Don’t expect much else – the rest is flat or choppy.
