Table - best surf conditions forecast for Haggerty's over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Haggerty’s. It’s a reef and point setup that’s very consistent and exposed to WNW swell, so we’ll get plenty of waves. The water is sitting at 69°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real treat.
Right now, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The first proper recommendation doesn’t kick off until Friday the 10th of July, but even then it’s not great. The swell is only 2 ft from the SSW with a long 15-second period, giving a combined energy of 238 (moderate energy). The wind is a cross-offshore at 9 mph, so the surf is clean, but the waves are small and the conditions are just ordinary. Friday afternoon is much the same, with a light breeze and 2 ft swell.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th carry on the same story: 2 ft SSW swell, 15-second period, cross-off wind, and clean waves in the morning. Afternoons get a bit choppy with a cross-onshore breeze. The whole run is “surfable but very ordinary” – nothing to get excited about.
Now, Monday the 13th of July is a standout morning for those who just want a glassy paddle. The wind goes glass (3 mph), the swell drops to 2 ft from the SSW, and the energy is 159 (weak). It’s clean as a whistle, but the waves are tiny – best for a longboard or a beginner looking to practice. The afternoon turns poor with cross-onshore wind.
Tuesday the 14th is a write-off: tiny 1.0 ft swell and onshore wind. Wednesday the 15th morning shows a glimmer with a 1 ft SSW swell at 18 seconds and light cross-off wind, making it glassy, but again, very small.
There’s a real gap here from about the 14th through to the 20th of July – a solid week of tiny, poor surf. A few mornings stay clean with 1 ft to 2 ft swell, but the energy is weak to moderate, and the afternoons are all chopped up by cross-onshore wind.
Things finally perk up on Tuesday the 21st of July. That morning is the best in the whole outlook. The swell is 2 ft from the SSW at a 16-second period, the wind is light offshore from the south at 6 mph, and the energy is 271 (moderate). The forecast says “expect good surf conditions” – clean, decent lines for a point break like this. It’s not big, but with that period and offshore wind, it’ll be fun and well-shaped. Just be aware crowds are often around.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is also worth a look – a moderate offshore breeze from the SE at 12 mph, clean 2 ft SSW swell, but not quite as promising as Tuesday. The rest of the fortnight trails off into small onshore slop.
If I had to pick one true standout, it’s the morning of Tuesday the 21st of July. The swell direction (SSW) is not the optimum WNW, but the offshore wind, long period, and clean conditions make it the best of a flat run. For the rest of it, you’re looking at small, ordinary waves.
Rusty.
