Deadman's Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Hey, Rusty here again. Let’s break down what’s going on at Deadman’s (Deadman-s-3).

Right off the bat, this spot is a point break that hardly ever breaks, so we’re not talking a solid run of surf. It needs that W swell to light it up, and it’s going to be a waiting game, but it can be worth the hang.

Starting Friday the 28th of August afternoon, there’s a little clean wave showing up at 2ft from the SSW, with a super long 19-second period – that’s pure groundswell. The water is sitting at 73°F, which is a huge 9°F warmer than normal, so it is very unusual. The combined energy is 461, so moderate. The wind is a gentle 15 km/h cross-off from the WNW, so the surface will be clean. With that long period, a point break like this will really line up and the long waits between sets will make it easier to get out.

Saturday the 29th brings the swell up to 3ft from the SSW with a still-strong 17-second period. Morning winds are light and cross-shore, but the afternoon cleans right up with a cross-off from the W. Energy drops a little to 521 in the arvo, but still decent. Sunday the 30th is similar; the afternoon is clean at 3ft with a 15-second period, energy at 506.

Monday the 31st is a letdown. The swell drops to 2ft with a shorter 14-second period, and a messy cross-on breeze – don’t bother. Tuesday 1st Sep is even weaker and smaller.

Wednesday 2nd Sep and Thursday 3rd Sep offer a bit of hope. Thursday morning is the first real standout. Swell jumps to 4ft from the SSW, a 12-second period, and clean 10 km/h cross-off from the W. Energy is a solid 553. That’s a great size for an intermediate, and the light offshore wind will have it looking tidy.

Friday 4th September is the absolute best call of the whole forecast. You’ve got 3ft from the SSW, a very long 16-second period, and a clean cross-off breeze. The energy is strong at 850. This is the session you want to pencil in. Just remember, crowds are often a thing here, so be early.

Saturday 5th Sep and Sunday 6th Sep hold onto clean conditions with 3ft to 3ft SSW swells and cross-off winds, but the period starts dropping to 15 seconds.

From Monday 8th Sep, it fades. Swell drops under 3ft and the wind picks up, hitting 20 km/h on Tuesday afternoon. Not worth the bother.

Then Friday 11th September throws a curveball. Only 2ft from the SW, but the wind goes completely glassy at 5 km/h. The period is a very long 16 seconds. It’ll be dead clean, but small and inconsistent. If you’re the only one out, it could be pure magic. Energy is weak at 277, but those conditions are special.

The rest of the outlook is just small, clean, and weak.

So, my call: Friday 4th September is your top pick for the best combo of size, period, and clean wind. Thursday 3rd September morning is a solid second. If you want glass and don’t care about size, that Friday 11th September morning is your special session.
