Table - best surf conditions forecast for Point Loma over the next 16 days.
G'day, I'm Rusty.
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Point Loma. The water temp is sitting at 70°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a nice little bonus.
The next few days are pretty average. We’ve got small, surfable waves around 2ft to 3ft from the SSW and SW, with periods around 13 to 14 seconds, but the wind is mostly cross-off, and the conditions are just ordinary. The energy is moderate (388), but it’s nothing to get excited about. It’s a bit of a flat spell, really.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are a write-off. The wind swings onshore from the SSW and S, blowing at 12 to 16 mph, making a mess of things. The waves are small and choppy – poor surf all around.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Saturday the 18th is the standout. The morning starts with a clean 4ft S swell, period 15 seconds, and by the afternoon it’s pushing 5ft from the S at 14 seconds, with a light offshore wind from the NW. The energy jumps to a strong 1149 – that’s proper power. Expect very good surf with clean, offshore lines. This is the best on offer, no question.
Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th keep the good run going with clean, offshore conditions and SW swell around 3ft to 3ft, periods 16 to 17 seconds. The energy is moderate (592 to 733), but the wind is solidly offshore. Good, clean waves.
The following week gets a bit mixed. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd stay clean with offshore and cross-off winds, but the swell is smaller. Thursday the 23rd afternoon sees a slight bump up to 5ft from the SSW.
Then we get another proper standout on Friday the 24th. The swell jumps to 7ft from the SSW, period 15 seconds, with a light offshore wind. The energy is massive at 1795 – very strong. This is expert territory, though; it’s going to be powerful and well overhead. Only for the experienced crew.
Saturday the 25th fades a bit but remains clean with 5ft to 4ft SSW swell. The window closes on Sunday the 26th with onshore winds and poor surf again.
So, to sum it up: the first week is mostly flat and average, with Thursday and Friday (16th and 17th) being total washouts. But you’ve got two clear standouts – Saturday the 18th and Friday the 24th. The 18th is the pick for the average surfer, while the 24th is for the big-wave hunters.
Rusty.
