Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s shaking for Point Loma through the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but the waiting game pays off later. The first surfable day that’s worth getting wet for is Saturday morning, July 4th. The water is sitting at 68°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might get away with a thinner suit.
The standout window is hands-down Tuesday, July 7th, through Wednesday, July 8th. On Tuesday morning, we’ve got a clean 4 ft SW swell rolling in with a solid 18-second period—that’s proper groundswell, and it’s packing moderate energy (767). That long period will make the waves at Point Loma (San Diego) shape up nicely, especially on the reef sections. The wind is a light cross-off, so it’ll be clean. This is your best bet for the whole run. The afternoon holds 3 ft SW with that same sweet 18-second period, still clean.
Wednesday morning, July 8th, is another gem: 3 ft SW swell, 16-second period, light cross-off breeze, and strong energy (855). The water is still that touch warmer than average. This is expert-level territory, but the quality is there.
Now, the rest of the forecast is a mixed bag. After Wednesday, the winds turn more cross to cross-on from the 9th through the 11th, and the surf gets choppy and poor. Saturday morning, July 11th, is a write-off with light cross-shore ripples. You’ll want to sit that one out.
Things perk up again on Sunday, July 12th, with a clean offshore NW wind kicking in during the morning, bringing 3 ft SW swell. It’s ordinary, but at least it’s clean. Then we hit a flat spell from the 13th through the 17th—tiny waves, mostly 1 ft to 2 ft, and the energy drops off. The wind stays light and cross-off, so it’s clean, but there’s just not enough push.
The real action comes back on Saturday, July 18th. The morning looks promising again with 3 ft SW swell, 17-second period, light offshore wind, and strong energy (566). That’s a solid way to close out the 16-day window. Afternoon gets a bit messier with cross-shore chop, so hit the morning session.
If you’re an advanced surfer, the early July window is the one to circle. For the rest, it’s a waiting game, but the forecasts can always shift.
Rusty.
