The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and settle in. Rusty here, looking at the 16-day picture for us. The water’s a touch warmer than normal, sitting at about 70.3°, which is a nice little bonus for the skin.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start. The first few days are pretty ordinary—small, cross-shore winds and not much to get excited about. The waves are there, but they’re just kind of... there.
Then, it starts to build. Sunday the 19th is when things get interesting. We’ve got a clean 3.9ft to 4.3ft swell rolling in from the SSW with a nice 12-second period. The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze from the west. That combo is going to clean things right up. The combined energy is pumping at 821 to 853 (moderate wave energy). This is the first real standout, and it's all about Point Loma. It’s a beach and reef setup, advanced only, but the quality will be there.
That trend holds into Monday the 20th. We’re looking at a 2.6ft to 3.3ft SW swell, still with a 16-second period, and a gentle offshore wind from the WNW. That’s a dreamy clean surface. The wave energy is moderate at 514-586. It’s not a massive day, but it’s a damn good one for the area.
We hit a bit of a lull after that, with mixed conditions through Tuesday and Wednesday. The swell gets a little bumpy with cross-shore winds.
But hold on. The real gold is at the end of the week. Thursday the 23rd through Saturday the 25th is the main event. We’re seeing a solid 5.2ft swell from the SSW with a 13-second period. That’s a proper groundswell. The combined energy is flying up to 1044 to 1237 (strong wave energy). The wind is either light offshore or light cross-offshore. The water will be clean as a whistle. Thursday afternoon and Friday are absolute standout sessions. The swell is over 5ft, so it's not for beginners, but for the advanced crew at Point Loma, this is as good as it gets.
Then Sunday the 26th still offers up some nice, clean leftover swell from the SW with a 19-second period. That’s a long period groundswell. It'll wrap into the point perfectly, but at a beach break, it can break a little straight. At Point Loma’s reef and sand setup, it’s a good thing.
The very last bit of the outlook fades out. The first half of the second week is the real deal, specifically Thursday the 23rd through Saturday the 25th. Don’t sleep on it. The long-range call is promising, but keep an eye on the wind.
So, for the best on offer: Thursday the 23rd afternoon and Friday the 24th at Point Loma. That’s the one.
