Table - best surf conditions forecast for Malibu over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet start. The first half of this outlook is a struggle for any decent surf. There’s a real gap from now until around the 19th of July where conditions are just meh. We’re talking small, weak swell and a lot of onshore or cross-onshore wind messing things up. You’ll see a few days with tiny waves, but nothing worth paddling out for. The energy is low, with combined swell energy readings mostly in the low 100-300 range, which is just weak.
The real standout, the only one that really gets the blood pumping, falls on Sunday the 19th of July. We finally see a pulse of energy show up. The swell direction comes around from the SSE, building to about 3ft in the morning, and the combined energy jumps to 772, which is solid moderate. The wind is a light offshore from the SSW, which is going to be clean. The period is a long 16 seconds, so this is proper groundswell. That long period at Malibu (point) is a beautiful thing. The water is also running much warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 68°F with a positive anomaly of 4°F, so that’s a bonus.
The afternoon of the 19th picks up a bit more size, hitting 4ft from the S, but the wind swings cross-shore from the W, so it’ll get a bit choppy. Still, the morning window is the one to hunt. After that, it drops back into the marginal zone through the rest of the week with smaller swell and less ideal winds.
So, if you’re keen, pencil in that Sunday the 19th of July for a morning session at Malibu. It’s not going to be huge, but it’ll be clean and fun. The rest of the run is a bit of a dud, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
