The Lowdown
Hey crew, Rusty here. Let's run through the window at Palos Verdes - Bluff Cove. This is a beginner-friendly reef that needs a specific window to be good.
Don't even bother with Monday (24th) or Tuesday (25th). It's messy with poor waves. The first proper chance comes on Wednesday the 26th with a 0.8m S swell and clean conditions in the morning. The water is sitting at a very warm 72°, which is way above normal for late August.
The pick of the whole fortnight is Saturday the 29th. That morning is glassy with a 0.8m SSW groundswell. Wave energy is solid at 461, with those long 17-second intervals delivering some real shape. It's clean, and for Bluff Cove, that's as good as it gets. Expect a few other heads out though.
Sunday and Monday hang on with similar swell, just not as tidy. Then come the first days of September, we get a few mornings with offshore or glassy winds on small 0.8m to 0.7m S/SSW swells. They're rideable but nothing special. Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th see a bump in size but the afternoon wind kills it - that's kite territory.
Way out on Tuesday the 8th of September, there's a glimpse of something good: a fresh offshore breeze and a 0.7m SW groundswell with 469 energy and an 18-second period. If you're a patient planner, mark that one. It’s the longest period, cleanest forecast of the whole second week, but it's still a long way out.
So your best bet is this Saturday morning (29th) for the glassy, lined-up stuff. The rest is a waiting game for windows that might not fully open. Water is weirdly toasty, so enjoy that.
Rusty.
