The Lowdown
Right, grab a seat and I’ll run through the next couple of weeks for TCs. This is a reef break, a proper advanced wave, and it’s sheltered from the swell, so it needs a lot of things to line up. To be blunt, for the *vast* majority of this sixteen-day window, it’s looking pretty grim. We’re talking day after day of poor surf conditions, cross-onshore winds, and the swell just isn’t making it in here with any real shape. The best part of the first week is a write-off.
From Saturday 18th July right through to Sunday 26th July, it’s a flat, choppy mess. The wind is almost always cross-on or onshore, ruining what little swell there is. You’ll see tiny waves, poor surf conditions, and the combined wave energy is weak, hovering around the 200 to 300 mark. There’s nothing to get excited about.
It’s not until the morning of Sunday 26th July that we finally see a flicker of life. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the SSW, but the wind is still onshore from the S, making it look marginal. The energy is starting to build, though, hitting 876 (moderate).
Then, the morning of Monday 27th July offers a glimmer. The swell is 3 ft from the SW, with a 18-second period. That’s a long-period groundswell, which is a double-edged sword here. It’ll have some real energy (842 in the combined energy column), but it will be tricky to handle as it might break too straight across the reef. Wind is a light cross-on from the S, which is the best we’ve seen. Still, it’s only a marginal call.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of Tuesday 28th July. The swell is 4 ft from the SW, with a 16-second period, pushing the combined energy over 1000 into the strong territory. The wind is a light cross-on from the S. This is the biggest and most powerful swell of the window at TCs. It’s still only a marginal forecast, but this is the best chance for a proper session. Be aware, this is a break that sometimes gets crowded, so that’s worth factoring in. The water temperature isn’t noted, so it’s just average for the time of year.
After that, it drops back off. The last few days into the first weekend of August are a return to poor conditions and tiny, weak swell. So, if you’re an expert, pencil in the morning of Tuesday 28th July. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s the only real window of opportunity.
