The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about Arrifana. This spot's usually a consistent performer with that NW swell and a clean NE offshore, but right now we're looking at a long, quiet stretch.
The water's sitting at a typical 69°, nothing out of the ordinary for mid-July. For the next two weeks, it's pretty much a bust. From July 14 right through to July 28, every session is a write-off – tiny, weak, messy slop. Wind's mostly cross-off but the swell's barely a ripple, with combined energy numbers in the double digits or low triple digits, and often under 100. There's no push, no shape. You'd be staring at flat lines.
Then, right at the tail end of the forecast, things finally wake up. On the morning of July 29, we get a proper pulse – 5ft of clean NW groundswell rolling in with a 10-second period. The wind is light out of the north, cross-off and clean, leaving the surface glassy. Combined energy jumps to 491 – that's proper juice. It's not a beginner wave at that size, but for the advanced crew who know Arrifana's reef and beach setup, that's the morning to circle. The afternoon looks a bit more marginal with a bump in wind, so hit it early.
That's it – one true standout after a long dry spell. Keep an eye on the forecasts; a blank run like this tends not to last, and when it turns, Arrifana can fire.
Rusty.
