The Lowdown

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's look at the next 16 at Arrifana. It's a mixed bag, so you gotta pick your spots.

Water temp is 66°F, which is a solid 5°F colder than it should be for this time of year. That’s a real chill, so don't be a hero in a shorty.

The first few days are a bit of a wash. Through Sunday and Monday (Sept 6th & 7th), we have a 4ft to 5ft NW swell, but a fresh cross-off shore wind is making it messy. The energy is moderate (365-758), but it's not clean. That continues into the middle of the week – Tuesday and Wednesday (8th-9th) are lumpy and poor. The swell drops to a weak 2ft on Wednesday morning with only 68 energy – not worth it.

By Thursday the 10th, the swell jumps to 6ft from the NW, but the period is a short 8 seconds. That’s a lot of chop for a beach-and-reef spot, and the wind is still cross-off. It’s a mess. Friday morning the 11th is a tease – glassy with a 4ft swell, but it's that short-period wind swell. It's surfable, but "ordinary" is the word.

The first real standout is Sunday the 13th. The morning shows a 3ft swell from the NW, but with a 14-second period. That’s proper groundswell (298 energy), and it’s glassy with a light NNE breeze. For Arrifana’s reef, that long-period groundswell will wrap in beautifully, giving you some clean, lined-up waves. It's small, but it'll be quality.

The next morning, Monday the 14th, is our best bet. We have a 4ft NW swell, still with a solid 13-second period, and glassy conditions with an ESE wind. The energy is up to 535, and the forecast is looking good. This is the one to circle. It’s a small, clean window before the wind picks up again.

After that, it gets sloppy again. We get decent mornings on the 19th and 20th with 5ft to 6ft NW swell, but the wind is a factor. The Saturday morning (19th) has a light cross-off and 5ft from the NW (524 energy), offering fun, punchy waves if you want a bigger, more powerful peak. The 20th is similar, a little smaller at 5ft with a NNE breeze.

The energy through the second week is moderate, mostly in the 100-500 range. The standout is undeniably the Monday morning of the 14th, with the Sunday the 13th a close second.

Rusty, signing off.
