The Lowdown
Alright, let's be real. The next 16 days at Arrifana are looking like a total bust. The water is 68°F at the start, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so layer up.
The first week is a grind. From Monday, August 31st through Sunday, September 6th, it's all poor surf conditions. We've got cross-offshore winds, but the swell is tiny and weak. The combined wave energy maxes out at 470 on Monday afternoon, which is weak to moderate, but the swell is only 5ft from the NW with a 9-second period—a messy windswell. The waves are clean, but there's no power. A bump on the 3rd afternoon is cross-shore and choppy, not worth it. The 4th and 5th are tiny with onshore winds.
The second week is no better. Monday, September 7th morning is the only "marginal" call, with a 4ft NW swell and a cross-off breeze, but the period is a short 7 seconds. The energy is 267, still moderate. After that, it's back to poor surf. The one glimmer is Sunday, September 13th morning, with a "surfable" but "very ordinary" rating. We'll get 3ft from the WNW with a light 10 km/h cross-offshore breeze from the north. The combined energy is a weak 146, and the period is just 7 seconds, so it'll be weak and a bit choppy.
That's your only shot. The rest is flat and windy. For an advanced break like Arrifana, a beach and reef setup, you need power, and it's just not here. If the wind really blows, this might be more of a kite session than a paddle one.
Rusty.
