Table - best surf conditions forecast for Arrifana over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's going on in the water.
It's a slow start for the first few days. Arrifana is mostly flat and choppy, so keep the board in the car.
Things start to stir on Saturday, July 18th. A new swell fills in, with Saturday morning seeing 5 ft of NW windswell, a short 7-second period, and moderate wave energy around 220. It's clean, but a bit raw. By Saturday afternoon, it's bumped up to 6 ft from the NNW, still at 7 seconds, with energy climbing to 323. Still clean, but this is for the experienced crew.
Sunday, July 19th, is a serious step up. The morning brings 6 ft from the NNW, and the energy is a strong 397. The period is still short, so expect lumpy, powerful surf. This is experts-only territory. Sunday afternoon pushes it to 8 ft from the same direction, with an energy reading of 645. That's a lot of power, but with that short period, it'll be a thumping, closeout-heavy day. It's a marginal forecast due to the conditions, but the size is no joke.
The real standout window looks to be Monday, July 20th. Monday morning is the one to circle on the calendar. We've got a solid 6 ft of NNW swell, the period ticks up to 8 seconds, and the energy is a healthy 466. The wind is a light cross-offshore, keeping the surface glassy. The water temperature is about 69°, right around the average for this time of year. For anyone who knows Arrifana, this is a proper session. The swell direction lines up well with the optimum, and the moderate energy suggests solid, rideable waves.
The swell sticks around for the next few days, but slowly fades. The wind stays primarily cross-offshore, keeping conditions clean, but the size drops off. There's another spike in energy around July 23rd and 24th, with waves hitting 8 ft and energy soaring over 1000, but again, short period and stronger winds make it a game for the experts only. It's powerful, but not a classic.
In short: the first week is quiet. Your best bet for a clean, fun session is Monday, July 20th. The bigger stuff later on is for the brave and the bold.
Rusty.
