The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and listen up. I’m looking at the charts for Azarujinha, and I gotta be straight with you—this is a tough stretch.
For a place that's exposed to the SW, the problem is we’re just not getting any love from that direction for most of the outlook. The start of this 16-day window is a total write-off. We’re talking tiny, un-rideable dribble for the first several days. There’s a long gap where it’s barely worth getting out of bed. The first few days are just a bust with near-zero energy and poor surf conditions.
The water temp is sitting around 68°, which is about 1° cooler than usual for this time of year – so nothing to write home about, just a touch nippy.
We finally see a tiny glimmer late on the 20th of August, with a bit of a pulse showing up. The wind will be offshore from the N, which is mint for keeping things clean, but the swell is tiny, just 2 ft from the WNW with a short, weak period of 9 seconds. The energy is weak (61). It’s technically surfable, but it's very ordinary—one for the foam boards or if you’re desperate for a paddle.
Thursday the 22nd morning might be the best we have to offer for a while. Same story: small, 2 ft from the W, but the cross-offshore breeze from the NW will keep the surface clean. Still, the energy is weak (67). It’s a real *choose your moment* kind of spot.
The end of August, around the 26th and 27th, the wind turns offshore again. The 26th morning sees a 3 ft NW swell and clean conditions with a moderate offshore N wind. The energy is weak (68), so it’s not going to be epic, but it’ll be the most push we’ve seen. Thursday the 28th morning also offers some 3 ft NW swell with a clean offshore N wind and *combined energy* creeping up to a moderate 100. If you’re looking for the best window to get wet, that’s your only real shout.
Overall, don’t get your hopes up for anything firing. This is a spot that can offer cleaning up, but only if we get the right swell direction. The standouts are slim, so keep an eye on it day by day. It tends not to stay this quiet forever.
