Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer at Azarujinha (Portugal). It’s a reef setup, fairly consistent, and the optimum swell comes from the southwest, which is going to be a bit of a theme for the next couple of weeks.
The forecast starts with a real quiet period. For the first few days, we’re looking at tiny surf, with swell heights barely reaching 2 ft. The water temperature is sitting at 66°, which is about average for this time of year. There’s a bit of wind around, but there’s just no energy in the water to get excited about. The combined swell energy is in the double digits, which is weak – we’re talking values like 6, 10, or 20 in the first week. Honestly, the best thing you can do for the first week is watch the horizon and wait.
Saturday the 4th of July offers a tiny bit of hope. The morning sees a glassy surface with a 2 ft swell from the WNW and an 11-second period. The combined energy hits 90 (moderate wave energy), and it’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. The swell direction is off from the optimum, so it’s not going to be a standout.
The real window to watch opens up on Tuesday the 14th of July. The morning session has a 3 ft WNW swell with a 12-second period, a light breeze, and it’s clean. The combined energy jumps to 263 (moderate-to-strong wave energy). This is the best looking day on the charts. The swell direction matches the optimum SW, and with light wind and a decent period, Azarujinha could actually show some proper shape. This is the standout of the entire outlook, but keep in mind it’s over a week out, so treat it as promising but not locked in.
After that, the surf drops back down again. Wednesday the 15th has a glassy morning with 3 ft from the WNW, but the period drops to 10 seconds and the energy is 165. It’s surfable but won’t live up to the Tuesday session. The rest of the second week is small and ordinary, with waves around 1 ft to 2 ft and cross-shore winds.
So to sum it up: you’re looking at a long gap of flat or poor surf right until the second week. The standout is Tuesday the 14th of July morning at Azarujinha. Get on that if the forecast holds.
