Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Azarujinha over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet start. We’ve got a bit of a lull on our hands. The first few days have some tiny waves, but nothing that’s really going to get you out of bed. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no dramas there.
The first real chance of a wave comes on Saturday, July 4th. The swell is a weak 2 ft from the WNW with a period of 11 seconds, giving us a combined energy of just 90, which is weak. The morning is glassy with a light NE breeze, making it clean. Honestly, it’s small and ordinary. The afternoon picks up a cross-off NW wind, but the swell drops to 2 ft. It’s surfable, but barely.
Sunday the 5th is even worse, with the swell dropping to 1 ft and then 1 ft. The morning has a glassy NE wind, but the waves are just too small. The whole week from the 5th through to the 10th is a write-off of tiny, poor surf. You’re looking at a gap of about 5 days with nothing worthwhile.
Now, we get a bit of a pulse on Saturday, July 11th. The morning sees a bump in swell to 4 ft from the NW, but the period is a short, weak 6 seconds. The combined energy gets up to 126, which is moderate. A fresh offshore NNW wind at 19 mph will keep it clean, but that short period means it’s going to be a bit chopped and messy. It’s not great, but it’s something.
The real standout in this forecast is far out, on Sunday, July 19th. The morning shows a solid 5 ft swell from the WNW with a 9-second period. The combined energy jumps to 474, which is a strong pulse of energy. The wind is a light cross-off from the NNW at 9 mph, so it’s going to be clean. Keep in mind this is more than a week away, so it’s a promising one but not locked in. For a reef break like Azarujinha, the WNW direction is right on the money, and 5 ft with a decent period should give some proper, fun lines. The wind is light, so it’ll be clean. This is the best bet on the board. Crowds are listed as ‘often’ here, so expect a few of the locals to be out.
Between now and then, you’ve got a few days with a fresh offshore wind and a tiny bit of swell, like on the 14th and 15th. The 14th morning has 2 ft from the WNW with an 11-second period and a light offshore wind, but the energy is only 109. It’s just average. The 17th and 18th have some wind and small waves, but nothing that’s going to have you calling in sick.
So, the bottom line: there’s a long dry spell until the 11th, which is mediocre at best. The real hope is that Sunday, July 19th, which could be a cracker if the forecast holds. Keep your fingers crossed.
