The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
Right off the bat, the next week or so is a tough one for Azarujinha. We've got a run of poor surf, with strong onshore winds and lumpy, choppy conditions. The water's sitting at 69°, which is bang on average for this time of year.
Saturday, August 22nd into the weekend is pretty much a write-off. The swell is small, the wind is all wrong, and the energy is weak (59). The swell's coming from the W, but the wind is just wrecking it.
We're in a bit of a dry spell until Friday, August 28th. That's the day things start to look interesting. The morning is the real standout. A clean 7 ft NW groundswell with a 10-second period hits, and the wind is a gentle offshore from the NNW. The combined energy jumps to a solid 851. This is a good, solid wave. The afternoon keeps the clean lines but gets a bit bigger, 8 ft, with a longer 11-second period, and the energy pumps up to 1340. The wind is cross-off, so still clean.
Saturday, August 29th morning is still a good option. The swell holds at 6 ft from the NW (10s period), with a moderate offshore wind from the N. The energy is still strong at 711. It's a good follow-up session.
After that, the swell completely drops off. From Saturday afternoon through to the end of the 16-day window, it's tiny. We're talking 0.3 ft to 3 ft, with very weak energy. Even though the wind is often offshore and clean, there's just no swell to push. There's a long gap of poor, tiny surf from the afternoon of August 29th all the way to the end. The very last day, Sunday, September 6th, has a tiny 2 ft NW swell with a 1 ft period, but the energy is only 140, and it's just not enough to get excited about.
So, the call is clear: the best, and really the only, window is Friday, August 28th and the morning of Saturday, August 29th. Be there for the morning session on the 28th for the best combination of size, power, and clean conditions.
Rusty.
