The Lowdown
Alright, my friends, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about Azarujinha in feet and miles per hour.
Straight up, this is a tough forecast. From the 13th of July all the way through the 25th of July, the surf is either non-existent or so small you’d be better off floating on a pool toy. The wave energy is in the low two-digits, maxing out at 78 on the 14th afternoon, but that’s coming from a pathetic 1ft swell with a short period. It’s a long, dry stretch of days where the best move is to save your energy.
The only real reason to get wet comes on the 26th of July, Sunday. The morning sees a pulse of swell: 5ft from the NW with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 283, which is solid moderate energy. The wind is a clean cross-off from the WNW at 9 mph, so the surf will be clean. This is the standout session. The afternoon keeps building to 6ft from the NW, with energy at 380. The wind stays clean. Keep in mind, this is a short-period swell, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and won’t have the long, clean lines. At 5ft to 6ft, it’s not for beginners; this is a solid intermediate wave. The water is sitting at 66°F, which is about a degree cooler than what’s normal for this time of year – nothing crazy, just a bit chilly.
Before that, on the 21st and 22nd of July, you’ll see clean offshore winds, but the swell is a ridiculous 1ft. It’s clean, but you can’t surf it. The energy is only in the 40s. There’s nothing to work with.
So, the bottom line: you’ve got a whole lot of nothing for thirteen days, and then one day—Sunday the 26th—that actually has some bite. The morning is your best bet for the cleanest conditions. After that, it drops right back to flat on the 27th and 28th.
Rusty.
