The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next couple of weeks for Azarujinha. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, with a long quiet spell to start and some real promise way down the line.
The water here is sitting at 69°, which is a normal 0.7° below the average for this time of year – nothing to worry about on that front.
The coming days are pretty flat, I’m not going to lie. We’ve got nothing worth paddling out for from Tuesday the 18th of August right through until the end of the week. It’s a real dead period. The first sign of anything surfable comes on Thursday the 20th of August in the morning. We’ll see a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, and while the wind is glassy, it’s just not enough to get excited about. The energy is weak (66).
Friday the 21st of August morning is where things get a little more interesting. There’s a 3ft swell from the NW with a moderate offshore wind, and the energy jumps up to a moderate 218. The conditions are clean, and it’s labelled as a good surf window. The swell period is a short 11 seconds, so nothing too special, but it’s the first decent chance.
Then we go dry again. From Friday afternoon right through to the middle of the following week, it’s back to tiny, poor surf. The wind stays offshore, but the swell just isn’t there. The energy readings are in the single digits or low teens.
The real standout, and the one to circle on the calendar, is the period around Thursday the 27th of August. The morning sees a 4ft swell from the NW with a period of 10 seconds and a moderate energy of 283. By the afternoon, it builds to 6ft from the NW, and the energy jumps to a strong 583. The wind is cross-offshore, keeping things clean. At 6ft, this is getting a bit sizeable for beginners, but for the experienced crew, it’s going to be good. The swell direction is right on the money from the SW optimum.
That energy carries through to Friday the 28th of August morning with a 5ft NW swell, clean offshore wind, and an energy of 443. Another great session. The afternoon stays solid at 5ft, but the wind picks up a bit.
Saturday the 29th of August morning is another good one, with a 5ft NW swell, moderate offshore wind, and energy of 316. The size is still there, and the conditions are clean.
After that, things start to taper off. The swell drops back to 3ft on Sunday the 30th, and the energy fades. The beginning of September offers a last little bump on Tuesday the 1st of September morning, with a 5ft swell from the NW and a light offshore wind, giving an energy of 248. It’s a clean, solid option, but it’s the tail end of the run.
So, to be honest, the best on offer is the stretch from Thursday the 27th of August through to Saturday the 29th of August. That’s your window for proper, solid, clean surf at Azarujinha. The earlier part of the forecast is a write-off, and the very end fades out again. Get out there if you can during that middle burst.
Rusty.
