G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve had a proper look at the charts for our stretch, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty flat and frustrating run ahead. There’s a big ol’ gap of nothing worthwhile for the first week, so don’t bother waxing up just yet. The water temp’s sitting at a balmy 68°F which is about average for this time of year, so at least it’ll be a nice paddle if you wanna get wet, but the waves just aren’t there.
The first real flicker of anything happens on Sunday, July 12th, with a small bump in energy. Through Monday, July 13th, we finally see some hope. The early morning at Azarujinha (your classic reef set-up) shows the swell picking up to 4ft from the NW with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy hits a moderate 273 and with a gentle cross-off breeze, the conditions are clean enough. It’s not a standout, but it’s the first time it might be worth a look for a patient surfer.
Tuesday, July 14th, actually offers the best of a pretty average bunch. Early morning at Azarujinha, we’ve got a 2ft swell from the WNW with a 10-second period and a clean offshore wind from the NNW at 12 mph. The combined energy is a solid 206 and the wind’s blowing directly offshore, which is a major positive for a reef break like this – it’ll be glassy and lined up. It’s only small, but if you’re desperate for a trim, this is your window.
After that, it’s back to dribble. The swell drops right off, and by the weekend of July 18th and into the following week, we’re looking at tiny 0.3ft swells with super long periods of 15-17 seconds, but from the south – completely the wrong direction for Azarujinha. The energy is weak, barely registering. It’s a dead period. Nothing to get excited about at all.
So, bottom line: mark your calendar for Tuesday morning the 14th of July for a chance at some clean but small waves at Azarujinha. Everything else in this 16-day window is a write-off. Hang tight, forecasts can change.
