Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.

First off, I gotta level with you. The next week and a half is a bit of a struggle. We've got waves, yeah, but mostly small and pretty ordinary. Autumn's just not firing on all cylinders here at Azarujinha, a reef setup that needs a good SW swell to really hum. The water temp is sitting about 68°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be freezing your butt off for nothing.

Wednesday the 10th into the weekend... there's something there, but it's tiny. Friday morning you might get some knee-high stuff, 2 ft from the WNW with a 9-second period, and the energy is weak (65). Wind is a cross-offshore from the NW, so it'll be clean, but honestly, it's a struggle for a log. Saturday morning is similar, maybe a bit cleaner with a near-glass NW wind (3 mph). The swell is still tiny at 1 ft but the period bumps up to 11 seconds, which gives it a bit more push for a reef. The energy is still low (75), though. Not a standout, just something to wet the wetsuit.

Now, Sunday the 12th morning is the first real glimmer of hope. We get a jump to 3 ft from the WNW, 9-second period, and the combined energy climbs into moderate territory (151). The best part? Glassy conditions. A 3 mph westerly wind with glass in the description – that's a gift. For a reef like this, that light offshore will make it slick. The swell direction is a bit WNW, which isn't its absolute optimum (SW is), but with that glass, it's the most surfable morning of this first week. Keep your expectations in check, though, it's still a small wave.

We've got a big gap after that with nothing really worth talking about. For the next week, from the 13th through the 20th of July, it's all tiny, weak, and poor. The combined energy mostly sits below 100, with the swell rarely breaking 3 ft. There are some strong offshore winds, like on the 19th and 20th, with 25 mph from the NNW. The forecast calls it "fresh offshore" and even "strong offshore and clean but hard to paddle into." Honestly, with that much wind and barely 2 ft to 3 ft of swell, it's more of a windsurf or kite session than a surf. The wind is just going to flatten those already tiny waves.

Then we get to Tuesday the 21st of July, and suddenly the game changes. The morning shows 5 ft from the NW with a short 7-second period. The combined energy jumps to 288 – moderate to strong. That's a big jump. The wind is 22 mph from the north, blowing fresh offshore. It's clean, but 5 ft with that short period is a bit crumbly and might be a handful for beginners. The afternoon gets even bigger, 5 ft from the NW, with 352 combined energy. Again, fresh offshore from the NNW. It's surfable for sure, but that's expert territory at that size for a reef break. If you're a confident intermediate or better, the 21st is your best bet in this whole outlook. It’s powerful, clean, and has real energy (288 to 352). Just know it’s short period, so it’ll be a bit dumpy.

After that, it drops off a cliff again on the 22nd and 23rd back to tiny, weak swell.

So, to sum it up: the one true standout is the morning of Sunday the 12th of July for a glassy, albeit small, session. The only other real window of proper size and power is on Tuesday the 21st of July, but that's for stronger surfers only. Everything else is pretty flat or blown out. The crowds at Azarujinha are often there, so don't expect to have it to yourself on those better days.

Keep your eyes on the forecasts, though, because a blank run like the middle of this month doesn't usually last forever around here.

Later, Rusty.
