The Lowdown
Right then, let's have a look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks.
It’s a bit of a slow start, to be honest. The first few days are pretty grim with a messy, onshore wind and lumpy conditions. We’ve got a real standout brewing for the end of the week and into the weekend, but you’ll have to be patient.
We’re looking at Azarujinha for the main action. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th are write-offs. Strong onshore winds and poor surf. The combined wave energy is moderate but it’s just not clean (734 to 710 on the scale). Not worth a paddle.
Tuesday morning the 25th is where things start to look up. We get a brief window of glassy conditions with light winds. The swell drops to about 5ft from the W with a short period of 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit weak and soft, but the combined energy is a low 204. It’s a chance for a quick, clean session if you’re desperate.
Wednesday the 26th and Thursday the 27th are a write-off again – cross-onshore wind and choppy conditions, even though the swell hangs around 5ft.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. Friday the 28th morning is your first true standout. The wind goes offshore from the N, and we get a clean 7ft swell from the WNW with a 10-second period. The combined energy is strong at 946. This is going to be proper. The break is exposed to the swell, and the direction is right in line with the optimum. This will be good, clean surf. Expect some crowd though, as it’s a spot that’s often busy.
Saturday the 29th morning continues the form. Another morning of clean offshore winds from the N, with a solid 6ft swell from the NW, period at 10 seconds and combined energy of 640. Another excellent window. The swell drops right off that afternoon, so get on it early.
From Sunday the 30th onward, we’re looking at a serious drop in size. The swell fades to under 3ft for most of the following week. There are some clean, offshore mornings from the 1st of September, but the swell is tiny (0.3ft to 1ft). The combined energy is basically zero (2 to 40 on the scale). It’s flat, plain and simple. There’s a bit of a pulse around the 6th and 7th of September, with some 2ft to 3ft swell from the NW, but the energy is still weak (57 to 120). It’s surfable for a longboard or a foiler, but nothing to get excited about.
So, to sum it up: the first few days are a bust. The real window is Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th of August. Get out there for the morning sessions. After that, we’re looking at a long, flat spell for over a week. Hopefully the forecasts change, but for now, that’s the picture.
