Table - best surf conditions forecast for Azarujinha over the next 16 days.
Right, well, I’ve had a good look at what’s on the horizon for this stretch of coast, and to be honest, it’s a bit of a quiet spell. The first few days are pretty small and unremarkable, but there are a couple of mornings that might just get you out of bed for a splash. Let’s run through it.
We’re looking at Azarujinha, a reef setup that’s fairly consistent and exposed to the SW. For the first week, the swell is tiny, mostly wobbling along at 1ft to 2ft. The energy is weak (combined energy values in the 30s and 40s) and the swell period sits around 8-10 seconds, so nothing with real punch. Mornings tend to be cleaner though, with gentle offshore or cross-offshore winds from the N and NNW. For instance, Wednesday morning (8th July) has clean 1ft WNW swell with a 10-second period and a gentle offshore, but it’s tiny. Thursday and Friday mornings (9th and 10th) are similar – 2ft to 2ft of WNW swell, described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions”. The water temperature feels about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Bit of a pulse shows up on the morning of Sunday 12th July – 3ft of NW swell kicking up to a moderate combined energy of 144, and light cross-offshore winds. The period is only 9 seconds though, so it’s not a classic groundswell. That same pattern rolls into Monday morning (13th) with 3ft NW, again just ordinary but rideable.
Now, look ahead to the week starting 14th July. Honestly, it’s a real struggle. Swell drops back to 1ft to 2ft, winds swing cross or cross-on, and the wave comment just says “poor surf conditions” day after day. Not worth paddling out.
There is a fleeting moment on Friday morning (17th July) – clean 2ft WNW swell with a fresh offshore breeze from the N. Again, the period is short at 7 seconds, and the energy is only 62, so it’s gutless but the wind is good.
The second week, from the 18th onwards, is mostly a write-off. Tiny swell, cross-offshore or offshore winds, but nothing over 2ft. You get a couple of mornings with clean, offshore wind (like 22nd and 23rd July), but the swell is 0.3ft to 0.6ft – that’s barely a ripple. One session on the 22nd has a 14-second period from the SW, so there’s a hint of long-period groundswell, but with only 0.3ft of height, it’s a tease.
Honestly, the best on offer across the whole outlook is Sunday 12th July morning – that 3ft NW swell with light cross-offshore winds and the highest combined energy of the period (144). It’s the most size you’ll get, and the wind is manageable. It’s still a modest wave, but if you’re keen, that’s your window. For the rest, you’re waiting for a break in the flatness. It tends not to stay this poor forever around here, but this stretch looks more like a kite surfer’s session than a paddler’s dream.
Stay patient, mate. Forecasts can change.
