The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Azarujinha over the next couple of weeks.
It starts off real slow. The first week and a half is mostly tiny, weak swell and cross-off breezes, so the surf is just ordinary at best. Don’t expect much until around July 22nd.
Things finally wake up on Wednesday morning, July 22nd. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell from the WNW with light offshore winds from the north. The energy is moderate (204), but that offshore flow will make it glassy and fun. That’s your top pick for the whole forecast. Thursday the 23rd morning is similar – 4ft from the WNW and light offshore winds – clean again, with similar energy (205).
Then Friday the 24th brings a longer period groundswell – 12 seconds from the WNW – with moderate offshore winds. Energy jumps to 309. The wave height is only about 3ft, but that long period will give it some real shape and make the paddle out easier. A sleeper session.
Saturday the 25th morning pushes bigger – 7ft from the NW with a 12-second period and fresh offshore winds. That’s strong energy at 1199. With 7ft, this is for experienced surfers only. The afternoon drops slightly to 6ft.
After that, the swell fades and the winds get stronger and more cross-off, so quality drops off fast.
Best bet? Wednesday morning, July 22nd. Azarujinha is a reef break, fairly consistent, but it does get crowded often. With 4ft from the WNW and glassy offshore wind, that’s the session to aim for. Also keep Friday the 24th in mind – that long period groundswell with offshore wind will be a treat if you’re after shape and easy paddling.
Take it easy,
Rusty
