Table - best surf conditions forecast for Azarujinha over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for our neck of the woods.
Honestly, mate, I’m looking at a pretty bleak 16-day stretch. There’s really nothing to get excited about here. The whole period is a long, flat run with only tiny scraps of energy. We’re talking about a gap of consistent, worthwhile surf that just doesn’t show up. The first recommendation pops up on Saturday the 11th of July, but even that’s a stretch. After that, it’s more of the same – small, weak, and uninspiring.
The only spot we’ve got to work with is Azarujinha, a reef break that’s fairly consistent and open to the SW swell. The combined swell energy is weak, staying under 100 (87 on Saturday morning) for the whole period, which tells you all you need to know. The water is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Let’s run through it. Friday the 10th is a write-off – poor surf with 2ft of WNW swell and a cross-off breeze. Not worth paddling out.
Saturday the 11th is the closest thing we have to a highlight. The morning shows a 1.6ft NW swell, with a period of 11 seconds, so it’s a bit of long-period groundswell. The wind is light from the NW, which is cross-off shore, giving clean conditions. The energy is 87. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. If you’re desperate, you could get a few small, clean waves, but it’s not going to be a session you remember. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a cross-shore wind.
Sunday the 12th has a 2.3ft W swell, but the wind is onshore from the SSW in the morning. It’s small and choppy. Forget it.
From Monday the 13th right through to Saturday the 25th of July, it’s a desert. We’re talking swell heights dropping to 0.3ft or 0.7ft, with most of the days showing poor surf conditions. The energy drops into the teens and single digits. There’s a few days with offshore winds from the NNW, like Friday the 17th and Saturday the 24th, but there’s just no swell to work with. A 3ft WNW swell on Friday the 17th afternoon with a fresh offshore breeze is about as good as it gets, but with a period of just 7 seconds and energy of 78, it’s weak and likely choppy.
To be honest, with this kind of tiny, weak swell and strong winds, Azarujinha looks more interesting for a kite surfer than someone with a paddle board. The setup is just not there for us.
It’s a blank run, plain and simple. For this area, that’s not totally unusual. Forecasts can change, but right now, I wouldn’t be holding your breath. Keep the board in the bag.
