Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's on the cards for our stretch of coast. It’s gonna be a quiet period, so temper those expectations. We're looking at a lean run of surf, with a whole lot of nothing happening for the first week or so. It's not until the 19th of July that things start to look half-interesting, but even then, it’s a slow burn.
The first proper glimmer of hope comes on the morning of Sunday, July 19th at Azarujinha. The water’s sitting at 70°, which is a touch warmer than the norm for this time of year. The wait will be worth it for this one, as we’re looking at the best conditions of the whole outlook. Swell from the west is pushing in at around 4ft, with a period of 12 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell, which will be setting up nicely on this reef break. The combined energy is strong at 381, so there’ll be some push behind those waves. It’s classed as a fairly consistent spot, but it does get crowded often, so you’ll need to be sharp. A gentle northwesterly breeze keeps it clean. This will be a day for intermediate and above, as the size and power will be a handful for beginners.
Before that, the outlook is pretty bleak. From now right through to the morning of the 19th, the wave heights are consistently below 3ft, with the combined energy reading under 100 – that’s weak, barely any life in the water. A lot of cross-off winds and short-period slop. It’s a long haul of poor surf. After the morning of the 19th, it drops off again quickly. The afternoon of the 19th gets a bit messier with 4ft swell but a strong cross-off wind taking the edge off. The following week offers nothing of note, with most days seeing tiny, weak, and poor surf conditions and barely any energy. It’s a long gap of nothing worth paddling out for.
So, to keep it simple: the one true standout is the morning of Sunday, 19th July at Azarujinha. Your best chance at a decent wave in this entire 16-day window. Everything else is a write-off.
Rusty.
