The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks at Azarujinha. This is a reef setup, and a pretty consistent one at that, so even in a quiet spell it’s worth a look, but we've got a proper run of days coming up.
The week starts pretty slow. Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd offer only tiny, weak waves, and Sunday the 23rd through to Wednesday the 27th is dominated by onshore or strong cross-shore winds. Don't bother paddling out then; those conditions are just a mess, with strong onshores on Sunday and Monday making it a write-off. You’re looking at a frustrating few days with very poor surf.
But hang in there because Thursday the 28th is when it all clicks. That Friday morning the 28th is a real standout. We’ve got a clean 7ft NW groundswell, with a period of 11 seconds, and a steady NNW offshore wind. The combined energy is humming at 956 (moderate-to-strong), and it’s coming from the optimum direction for this spot. That's going to be some proper, clean reef surfing. It'll be solid, so it’s one for the intermediate crew.
Saturday the 29th keeps the fun rolling with a gentler 6ft NW swell and a light offshore N wind in the morning, giving you 685 (moderate energy) of clean, workable waves. That’s probably the pick for the weekend if you want something a bit less powerful than Friday.
After that, the surf drops right off. We get a tiny pulse on Sunday the 30th and some knee-high leftovers into Monday the 31st, but nothing with any punch. The first few days of September are a return to very small conditions as the swell window shuts. There's a little bump on Wednesday the 2nd with a 3ft NW swell and offshore wind, but it's pretty ordinary. The long-range call for Thursday the 3rd and beyond shows only tiny, long-period scraps that won't break properly here. A blank run like this is pretty normal for this time of year.
All in all, the action is focused on Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th of August. The rest is a waiting game.
Rusty.
