Table - best surf conditions forecast for Azarujinha over the next 16 days.

Alright, let’s get into it. For the next couple of weeks, Azarujinha is looking pretty flat and unexciting for the most part, but there is one session that really stands out. Right now, the water temp is sitting at 67°F, which is right about where it should be for this time of year, so nothin’ weird going on there.

The swell energy is tiny for the next couple of weeks – the combined energy reading is mostly under 100 (weak). Real weak stuff. Friday the 10th morning brings some 2ft swell from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds and a cross-off breeze from the NNW at 12 mph, but the conditions are just poor overall. That’s a theme. Saturday the 11th morning is a touch better but still “very ordinary” – 2ft from the NW, 11 second period gives a combined energy of 97, and light cross-off wind. Still not worth paddling out for.

The whole first week is mostly like that: tiny swell, poor surf quality and weak energy. Monday the 13th morning has a glassy moment with 3ft from the WNW at 8 seconds, combined energy only 106 (weak), and still that “very ordinary” comment. It’s clean but barely surfable.

There’s then a solid gap of almost nothing through the middle of the month. From the 14th to the 24th, the swell drops to 1ft or even less, periods are long but tiny – often those long-period swells over 15 seconds, but they’re coming from the S or SW and the waves are just too small to bother with. Wind is mostly offshore or cross-off, but combos like 0.3ft and 18 seconds ain’t gonna do anything. Energy readings are single digits or low double digits. Total write-off.

But then… Saturday the 25th of July morning finally shows a change. That’s a week and a half away, so it’s a long-range call, but the pattern is promising. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell from the NW, period 10 seconds, and an offshore breeze from the N at just 6 mph. The combined energy jumps to 268 (moderate wave energy). That’s the standout right there. Azarujinha is a reef break that’s fairly consistent and handles swell from the SW direction best, but this NW swell at 4ft with clean offshore wind means the waves should have shape and be a lot of fun for intermediate surfers – not big, but clean and rideable. The crowd factor is “often”, so expect some company.

By Saturday afternoon the swell pushes to 6ft from the NW with period 10 seconds and a cross-off breeze at 16 mph from the NNW. Energy hits 646 (moderate-strong), so there’s a heap more power, but that’s on the bigger side – 6ft is a step up and the wind becomes gustier. Still, the morning is the real winner.

So the bottom line: mostly a quiet, small spell with a real gap of nothing for over a week, but Saturday the 25th morning is the one session that’s got me excited. Clean offshore wind, waist to shoulder-high swell, moderate energy. That’ll be the best on offer.
Rusty.
