Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, it’s your local surf reporter Rusty here, and I’m gutted to tell you this isn’t the week we’ve been waiting for. We’ve got a long, lean stretch ahead with nothing that’s really pushing any buttons. Looking at the whole 16-day window, we’re stuck in a pattern of really small, weak swell and it just never gets going. There’s a gap from now until around Thursday the 9th where the surf is so small it’s almost a flat spell. The water temperature is sitting at 68° at Azarujinha, which is just about average for this time of year, no surprises there.
The first day that even gets a mention as surfable is Thursday morning, 9th of July. Azarujinha, a reef break, will have a tiny 2ft swell from the west-northwest. The wave energy is still super weak (64) and the period is a short 10 seconds, so it’s going to be dribbly. There’s a light breeze keeping it clean, but honestly, these are just poor little waves for a beginner to mess about on, nothing for a seasoned surfer.
Friday the 10th afternoon shows a tiny jump to 4ft from the northwest, period 9 seconds, with the combined energy climbing to 190 which is still only moderate. The problem is the wind is a fresh 30 km/h cross-offshore, making it messy and not worth the paddle.
There are a couple of mornings with a true offshore wind, like Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th, but the swell is a pathetic 0.7ft to 1ft. It’s just not enough to break. Even when we get a long-period 19-second groundswell on Sunday the 12th, it’s only 0.3ft – a ghost. That’s the story here: we keep getting clean conditions with offshore or light winds, but the swell is completely absent. For a break that’s exposed to swell, this is a real bust.
The last week of the outlook is more of the same – tiny residuals from the southwest and west, all under 2ft, with cross-offshore winds. It’s not good for paddle surfing. If you’re into kiting, the Thursday the 16th might have enough cross-shore wind, but for a surfer, this is a 16-day no-go. The forecasts can change, so don’t lose hope, but as it stands, leave the boards in the car.
Stay salty,
Rusty
