Bafureira Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here, let’s take a look at what’s on offer.

To be real with you, Bafureira’s looking like a bit of a slow burn over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a stretch of pretty ordinary conditions kicking things off, with a lot of poor surf and cross-off winds. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until the morning of Wednesday, September 2nd, with a small 3ft swell out of the NW at 8 seconds, and finally some true offshore wind from the north at 12 mph. It’s not going to set the world on fire, still a bit weak in energy (94), but it’s at least clean and rideable.

The biggest standout for the whole run is going to be Sunday morning, September 6th. You’re looking at a solid 4ft swell from the NW, with a period of 12 seconds giving it a decent bit of push. The combined energy is strong, hitting 483, and we’ll have light northwesterly winds keeping it cross-off and clean. This is the pick of the forecast for sure. It’s a reef break, so that longer period will wrap in nicely, and the water temp is about 68°, basically average for this time of year.

We then roll into another good window on Tuesday morning, September 8th, with another 4ft swell from the WNW and a nice 11-second period. Offshore wind from the north at 12 mph will have it looking smooth. The combined energy is 322, so plenty of power behind it.

Looking further out, Tuesday morning, September 15th, is promising, with a 3ft NW swell and a very long period of 14 seconds, giving it some serious groundswell character. The combined energy is 281, and we have a light offshore NNE breeze at 6 mph. Just remember, that one’s a week and a half away, so keep an eye on it but don’t bank your whole week on it yet.

The rest of the run is mostly small, weak, and blown out by cross-off breezes. For a reef break like this, we need a bit more juice and direction. On the whole, there are only a couple of true windows to get excited about, so pick your days.
