The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I've scanned the charts for the next 16 days, and honestly, it's a bit of a tough watch for Bafureira. For the first ten days, from Friday the 17th of July right through to the 26th, we're looking at practically nothing. The swell is tiny, mostly under 1ft, and the combined energy is weak, rarely cracking 50 (24 to 56 zone). There's just no push in the water. It's a real dry spell, and you'd be better off finding something else to do.
Then, we get a little flicker of hope. The first real standout appears on Monday the 27th of July. The morning session is the pick. We're seeing a pulse of 5ft from the NW, with a moderate 9-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 338 (moderate). The wind is a gentle cross-offshore breeze from the NNW, which will keep the surface clean. It's not huge, but it's the first time in a week and a half the surf is actually worth paddling for. The afternoon drops right off though, so get your waves early.
But the absolute best of the outlook is Tuesday the 28th of July. The morning is looking magic. The swell holds at 4ft from the NW, still with that 9-second period, and the energy is a solid 287 (moderate). The real kicker is the wind: glassy conditions. Zero wind, dead calm. That reef at Bafureira is going to be as clean as a whistle. It's a beginner-friendly break, but it will be clean and fun. The afternoon gets a bit bumpy with a moderate breeze, so the morning window is the golden ticket.
After that, Wednesday the 29th looks messy with a 5ft NW swell but a fresh 19 mph cross-off wind that will chop it up, and it's getting towards the size limit for beginners. Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st of July offers a bit more hope, with a clean 3ft NW swell on Friday morning and a light breeze, but it's not as good as that Tuesday. The long-range stuff into August 1st is back to nothing.
So, clear winners are the morning of Monday the 27th and especially Tuesday the 28th. That Tuesday glass-off is the one to circle.
Rusty.
