Right then, let's talk about Santo Amaro. It's a point break that takes a south-west swell, but the truth is, the whole sixteen-day window looks pretty quiet. There are a couple of good days in the middle where the ocean wakes up, but for the most part, we're staring at a long stretch of no real rideable options.
We kick off on Saturday, July 4th, with tiny 2ft WNW swell, water temp's around 68°, which is about normal for the time of year. The morning's glassy, which is a nice look, but with combined energy down at 90, it's weak. It stays small and clean through the rest of that first week, with heights rarely pushing past 2ft. That's a week of nothing really worth paddling out for.
Now, come Saturday, July 11th, things change. We get a proper pulse of swell – 7ft from the NW, period a short 8 seconds, but the combined energy jumps to 699, which is strong. The wind's offshore from the NNW in the morning, so it'll be clean. But that size, 7ft, at a point with that short period? It'll be lumpy, punchy, and honestly, for experts only. Not a beginner's day. The ratings say it's marginal, and I get that. It's powerful, but messy. The afternoon picks up a cross-off wind, still big, but the score drops. That Saturday is the one standout, but it's not for the faint-hearted.
Sunday the 12th is a cruel joke. The swell collapses to less than 1ft, a 19-second groundswell from the SW. That period is super long, but the energy is pathetic at 23. It's a ghost. You'd see a ripple every few minutes. The rest of the week stays tiny, with nothing above about 2ft until Sunday the 19th, when it tries to build again with a 3ft WNW swell, period short, energy moderate at 114. But it's still classed as poor.
So here it is: the only real shot in this whole window is Saturday the 11th. Big, offshore, strong energy. But it's a wild one. The rest of the time, the ocean's on a go-slow. The combined swell energy is weak (under 100) for almost every other session. You could get a longboard out on the glassy mornings early on, but it'd be a fight for a knee-high slop. Keep an eye on the charts, mate. These flat runs don't last forever.
