The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the surf ahead for Praia da Foz, out at Cabo Espichel in Sesimbra. This is a reef break, and it needs a clean window to really show its best.
Right now, we're in a bit of a flat spell. The first real chance to get wet doesn't roll in until Thursday morning, the 19th of September. That's a full five days of waiting, with nothing but tiny, bumpy slop on offer before then. The water's sitting at 67.3°, which is about a degree and a bit cooler than normal for this time of year.
Alright, let's talk about the good stuff. Thursday the 19th is your morning target. We've got a solid 5 ft of NW swell running with a very long period of 14 seconds. That’s proper groundswell, bringing serious energy (890) into the bay. The wind is light and easterly, coming cross-offshore, keeping it clean. This is a classic setup for this reef, and it's looking like the standout session of the whole outlook. Just keep in mind, with that long period, the sets might be a bit spread out, but the waves will have real punch.
The following weekend and into the start of the next week also offer some clean windows. Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd both have mornings with light offshore winds from the SE and ENE, and a clean 2 to 3 ft of NW swell. These will be smaller, but with glassy conditions and moderate energy (around 200-250), it'll be fun for a longboard or a fish. The wind state on Saturday morning is described as a slight air, so glassy is the word.
Looking way out to Saturday the 28th of September, the swell is trying to build again, with a big bump in energy (over 1250), but the wind is onshore and strong, making it a messy, blown-out situation. A miss for us.
So, to keep it simple: if you can only surf once in the next two weeks, get out on the morning of Thursday the 19th. That’s the winner. If you miss it, the small, clean mornings on the 21st and 22nd are your next best bet.
Stay stoked.
