Table - best surf conditions forecast for Praia da Foz Cabo Espichel Sesimbra over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve got to be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Praia da Foz Cabo Espichel Sesimbra are looking pretty grim on the whole. This is a reef setup that’s fairly consistent, but the conditions just aren’t playing ball. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and every single session over the entire 16-day window is labelled poor. There’s no proper start to the run – it’s flat and messy right from the get-go. The first week especially is a write-off: from Monday 13 July right through to the following weekend, you’re looking at weak, short-period swell with combined energy figures barely nudging into two digits – mostly between 13 and 116, so very weak to moderate at best. Waves are hovering around 1ft to 3ft, period mostly under 9 seconds, and the wind is never offshore or glassy. It’s cross-on or onshore the whole time, often a fresh breeze, so it’ll be choppy and lumpy.
The only time the swell even threatens to get interesting is right at the tail end. On Monday 27 July in the morning, we pick up a 6ft NW swell with a 9-second period and combined energy of 421 – that’s moderate wave energy finally showing some life. But the wind is cross-on from the NNW at 15 km/h, and the whole thing is still rated poor. That 6ft is getting into intermediate territory, but with the onshore wind picking up that afternoon (WNW 30 km/h), it’ll be sloppy. Tuesday 28 July morning holds similar energy at 5ft from the NW with 362 combined energy, but again cross-on wind. No standouts here – nothing worth paddling out for. The water temp and anomaly weren’t provided in the data for this break, so I can’t tell you what it’s like compared to average.
Honestly, there’s not a single session I’d recommend. The whole run is a blank for surf. For this area, that’s not totally unexpected – it can go through flat spells. The combined energy stays below 100 for most of the first two weeks, only pushing past 100 on Thursday 16 July afternoon and Wednesday 22 July afternoon, but even then it’s 3ft and 3ft with onshore winds. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if you’re into that. Otherwise, keep an eye on the forecasts – it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Cheers, Rusty
