The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with the long-range outlook for Anglet - Corsaires. Let’s get into it.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but the week ahead builds to some real muscle. The water here is sitting at a very unusual 77° – that’s more than three degrees warmer than normal for this time of year, so it’s going to feel like a bath.
The first real window of opportunity hits on Saturday, 22 August. The morning is the call. The swell is 4ft from the NW with a period of 9 seconds, giving us a moderate wave energy of 241. The wind is light and offshore from the east at 9 mph, keeping things clean. This is a classic beginner-friendly break, and it’s fairly consistent, so it’s a solid pick for a fun session.
Sunday morning, 23 August, drops right off. The swell is only 2ft from the NNW with a short period of 7 seconds, and the energy is weak at 54. But the wind is glassy – a dead calm from the ESE at 3 mph. That’s a major positive for clean conditions, but the waves are tiny and ordinary. A board-floater session at best.
Things are quiet through Monday and Tuesday – the swell bottoms out to next to nothing, with poor conditions and onshore winds. Nothing to recommend.
Now, Thursday morning, 27 August, is a real standout. The swell jumps to 5ft from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate at 378. The wind? Glassy. Dead calm from the south. That’s going to be absolutely clean. The size is right on the edge for beginners, but for anyone with a bit of experience, this is the best of the first week.
Friday morning, 28 August, is a beast. The swell is 10ft from the WNW with a long period of 11 seconds, and the energy is through the roof at 2337. This is a powerful groundswell. But here’s the thing – at this size, it’s only for experts. The wind is cross-onshore, so it’s going to be a raw, challenging day. Too big for anyone who isn’t proper experienced.
The following week, from Sunday, 30 August onward, the surf settles back into a smaller, more manageable range. The standout is Thursday morning, 3 September, with a tiny 2ft swell from the NW, but glassy conditions – dead calm from the east. It’s weak, but you could get a few clean peelers if you’re patient.
The second week remains generally small and ordinary. The best bet is Friday morning, 4 September, with 3ft from the NW, a period of 9 seconds, and glassy, calm conditions. It’s a promising but not exciting option.
Overall, don’t miss Saturday morning of the 22nd for a fun, clean beginner session, and definitely get out Thursday morning the 27th for the best combo of size and glass. The big Friday the 28th is for the hardcore crew only.
Stay stoked, catch you in the water.
