The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the Anglet - Corsaires stretch over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a rough patch. Friday the 21st is a write-off with onshore winds and rain showers making a mess of things. The water is a very unusual 77°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s little comfort when the waves are blown out.
The first real window of opportunity shows up on Saturday the 22nd. It’s a morning mission with a clean 4ft swell from the NW, swinging in at 9 seconds. The real story here is the offshore wind from the east, which should groom those lines nicely. The combined energy is moderate (241), so there’s enough push to get into a few. Expect a bit of company, as crowds are sometimes an issue here.
Sunday morning the 23rd drops off significantly. We’re looking at a weak 2ft NW swell with a short 7-second period, delivering only 62 units of energy. It’s surfable, but very ordinary, so don’t get your hopes up.
Then we hit a dry spell. From Monday the 24th through to Thursday the 27th, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The swell just disappears, with tiny, low-energy waves and poor wind conditions. It’s a proper blank run for a few days.
Now, the end of the first week brings a big pulse. Friday the 28th morning sees a powerful 8ft WNW swell rolling in with a solid 9-second period. The combined energy is a massive 1236, which is strong. However, that’s a big wave, well over 8ft, so this is strictly for experienced surfers only. The wind is light from the west, but it’s onshore, so the quality will be a bit lumpy. It’s a marginal call due to the tide and wind, but there’s a lot of water moving.
The standout for the whole period looks like Saturday the 5th of September. That’s a full two weeks out, so treat it as promising but not locked in. The forecast shows a 7ft WNW groundswell and glassy conditions with zero wind in the morning. The combined energy is a strong 804, and the 10-second period will give those waves some real shape. Clean, glassy conditions on a 6ft+ swell are a rare treat, but again, that’s expert territory. If it holds, it’ll be the best session of the window.
The morning of Sunday the 30th of August is also worth a mention. A clean 5ft NW swell with glassy, light easterly winds. The energy is moderate (365), and it’s a much more manageable size for a wider range of surfers. A solid, fun morning.
And the first of September offers a similar story. Tuesday morning the 1st has a 5ft NW swell with glassy east winds and 291 units of energy. It’s another clean, user-friendly option to keep in mind.
So, to wrap it up: the early stuff is poor, there’s a mid-week lull, but the end of the 16-day window has potential. The big one is the 5th of September if you’re an expert, otherwise, the 30th of August and 1st of September mornings are your best bet for cleaner, more manageable waves.
Rusty.
