Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trez Hir over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight – I’ve scanned the next 16 days, and for Trez Hir, it’s a pretty grim picture on the whole. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with mostly tiny waves and messy wind, so don’t go getting your hopes up.
The first glimmer, and I use that term loosely, is on Wednesday morning, July 8th. We’ve got a weak little 3ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a pretty modest 109. The wind is from the north at 3 mph, giving us a cross-off breeze, so it’ll be clean. It’s surfable, very ordinary, and not much to write home about. That’s about as good as it gets for a while.
From there, it’s a long, long wait. The wind just stays howling from the north and northeast, whipping up a fresh cross-shore chop that’ll make it frustrating more than fun. The swell barely pokes its head above 3ft until we get to Friday, July 17th. On the Friday morning we see a jump to 5ft from the SW, but the period is a short, gutless 7 seconds, and the wind is a messy cross-off from the west at 16 mph. The energy reads 275, so it’s moderate, but the quality is still rated as poor. The afternoon improves slightly to 6ft, also short period, but it’s still just a marginal deal. Honestly, this setup – bumpy, short period and onshore/cross – it looks like it’d be more fun for the kite surfers than us paddle guys. It’s big enough to be no fun for beginners but not good enough for anyone else.
There’s another pulse coming through on Wednesday, July 22nd, with a 7ft WNW swell and a period of 8 seconds. The energy jumps way up to 472, which is moderate to strong, but again the wind is pumping from the WSW at 22 mph, pushing it into the “poor” category. The next day, Thursday the 23rd, the wind finally goes offshore from the NW at 12 mph, leaving it clean, with a 5ft swell. The energy is 254, and it’s described as “surfable but very ordinary.” That’s probably the best call of the whole run, but even then, it’s nothing to get excited about. 5ft with an 8-second period isn’t going to light the world on fire.
So here’s the summary, mate: there are several days of blank nothing at the start, a couple of marginal and windy days around the 17th and 22nd, and a half-decent but unremarkable clean window on the 23rd. No true standouts. The best thing I can say is: this area is inconsistent, and we’re in a dry run. It won’t stay poor forever.
Rusty.
