The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s brewing for Trez Hir.
Honestly, the next week and a bit is a bit of a bust. We’ve got a long dry spell on our hands. From Saturday the 18th right through to Saturday the 25th, the wave energy is just pitiful - we’re talking mostly flat or barely a ripple with readings under 100 (21 down to 0). You’d be wasting your time and petrol. The winds are all over the shop, but even when they are offshore, there’s just nothing to push around. The water temp is sitting around 64°, which is pretty average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.
Then, there’s a little flicker of hope. On Sunday the 26th, things start to change. We get a moderate offshore breeze from the WNW, and the swell finally kicks in. Sunday morning sees a 4ft swell out of the WNW, but with only moderate wave energy (213) it feels just ordinary. It's the Sunday afternoon that’s the standout of the whole outlook. We get a clean 4ft swell from the WNW, with the energy really building to a solid 398. That’s moderate-to-strong energy and the offshore wind is going to make it clean. However, this is for Trez Hir, which rarely breaks – so don't get too attached to it delivering. It’s also a small, clean wave so beginners could have a go, but for a spot that’s so fickle, getting solid conditions is pure luck.
Monday the 27th still has some life, with waist-to-chest-high 4ft waves on Monday afternoon and offshore winds, but the energy has dropped back to 175, feeling very ordinary again. After that, we’re back into very small, messy surf through to the end of the period. There’s a long-period 13-second groundswell on the 28th, but it’s only 0.3ft. Not worth a paddle.
So, bottom line: if you’re determined, the best shot you’ve got is Sunday afternoon the 26th, but Trez Hir is inconsistent, so don’t hold your breath. The rest is a write-off.
Rusty.
