The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's cooking at Trez-Hir.
It's a classic "wait for it" scenario. The first few days are a complete bust with tiny, weak, or messy surf, so hang tight. The first real chance to paddle out is Thursday, August 20th, but even that has its moments.
The absolute standout is the afternoon of Thursday, August 20th. We've got a solid 8ft swell from the WNW, with a 10-second period, and the wind is blowing straight offshore. That's a recipe for clean, well-shaped waves. The wave energy is strong at 971, so it's got plenty of punch. It's a great option for intermediate surfers, but keep in mind Trez Hir *rarely breaks*, so when it's on, it's a real treat. The water temperature is about what you'd expect for this time of year.
Friday, August 21st morning is still decent, with a 6ft WNW swell and offshore winds, but it's a smaller, mellower version. The afternoon drops off to absolutely nothing. Then we hit a long, flat, and messy stretch from Saturday, August 22nd through Tuesday, August 25th. It's all tiny, wind-blown junk, or just flat. Don't bother.
There's a small window on Wednesday, August 26th morning with 5ft swell and cross-offshore winds, but it's only marginal due to tide. The following days are a mix of messy, choppy, or onshore winds. The next real highlight is a bit further out, on the morning of Tuesday, September 1st. We're looking at a solid 7ft WNW groundswell, with a 9-second period and light offshore winds. That's a clean, powerful setup with strong energy (773) and very good conditions predicted. The afternoon of the 1st and Wednesday, September 2nd are also looking clean.
Bottom line: if you can, the best bet is the late afternoon of Thursday, August 20th. If you're planning ahead, the first couple of days of September look promising, but that's a long-range forecast, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
