Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trez Hir over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer. To be honest, Trez Hir is a real tricky one. It’s a spot that rarely breaks, and looking at this 16-day stretch, the surf is mostly tiny and the conditions are pretty ordinary. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing out of the ordinary there.
The whole first week is a write-off. From Sunday the 12th through to Saturday the 19th, the swell is just a pittance – we’re talking 1ft to 2ft with combined energy barely scraping past 50 (weak). The wind is often cross or onshore, and even when it goes glassy or offshore, there’s just no wave to work with. It’s a painful gap of nearly eight days with nothing worth paddling out for.
Then things get a bit more interesting. On Sunday the 19th, the afternoon brings a jump to 6ft from the WNW with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 262 (moderate). The wind is offshore from the NW at 16 mph, so it’ll be clean. The problem is, the surf forecast is still labelled as poor surf conditions. It’s a tease, but it might be the best of a bad lot.
Monday the 20th afternoon is similar – 6ft, WNW, 7 seconds, combined energy 272 (moderate), with a clean cross-offshore wind. The score only nudges up to a 1 out of 10, described as “marginal.” It’s a maybe, but not a standout.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is Tuesday the 21st. The morning swell hits 7ft from the WNW at 9 seconds, with combined energy shooting up to 589 (strong). That’s a solid groundswell. The wind is a cross-shore from the ENE at 9 mph, but the note says “poor surf conditions.” The afternoon drops to 6ft, still from the WNW, with energy at 561 (strong) and a clean cross-offshore wind. It’s still only a 1 out of 10. For a break that rarely breaks, this is the most promising window, but with that size, it’s for experts only. At over 8ft, it’s too big for beginners.
After that, it fades again. The 22nd sees a 4ft pulse, then it drops back to knee-high dribble for the rest of the week. Nothing else really stands out. The only hope is Monday the 27th when the morning shows 4ft from the WNW with a 16 mph offshore wind, combined energy at 166 (moderate). It’s clean, but it’s a long way off and still rated as poor.
So, the best on offer is the Tuesday the 21st window. It’s the only time the swell has any real size and energy, and the wind is workable. But with the spot being inconsistent and the forecast still poor, it’s a gamble. Take it if you’re a seasoned local and don’t mind a dicey session.
