The Lowdown
Right, listen up. Trez Hir’s the only name on the map for this stretch, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. It’s a rare break, so when it does light up, it’s worth paying attention to.
We’re starting with a bit of a flat spell. Tuesday the 18th is pretty much a write-off – tiny, weak waves and just not doing anything. You can leave the board in the car. The wait goes on through Wednesday morning, but that’s when the ocean starts to wake up. A fresh WNW swell fills in with a clean 4.3ft and the wind goes glassy. That’s the first sign of life, a real clean-up after the flatness. The energy is picking up too, with the combined swell energy reading a moderate 302. Into the afternoon, it’s still good – 4.9ft and clean, with the swell clocking in at 11 seconds. This is where it starts to feel like a proper surf.
Thursday the 20th pushes things to a different level. The morning sees 7.2ft of WNW swell, but the period drops to 10 seconds and the conditions get a bit messy. It's pushing into the size where it’s more for the crew who know what they’re doing. The energy is climbing hard though, hitting 895 in the morning and blowing up to a strong 1339 by the afternoon, with the swell holding at 6.9ft. It’s still clean, but the tide and the sheer push of water make it a bit of a handful. Friday pulls back a touch to a more manageable 4.6ft in the morning with cleaner lines and a 10-second period. It’s back to being a fun, proper wave. The energy is a moderate 380. That’s your pick of this first pulse.
Then it fades. Saturday the 22nd through to Monday the 24th, the swell drops right out. We’re looking at dribbly 1ft to 2ft junk. Not worth the paddle. The winds are also all over the shop, so just save your energy.
Mid-week sees a temporary bump, but it’s not great. Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday the 26th have some swell, but the wind is either onshore or just too strong, making a mess of things. Thursday the 27th is a little better, with a clean 4.3ft in the afternoon and a period of 7 seconds. Bit short-period, but rideable.
Friday the 28th gets a bit of size again, 6.6ft in the afternoon, but it’s getting blown out with a cross-onshore. That’s a no from me. The real standout in this whole run is Saturday the 29th. We get a solid 6.2ft of W swell, with a clean 10-second period, and it's under a gentle offshore wind. The energy is a strong 660. That’s the one to circle; it’s clean, it’s got some push, and it’s going to be proper. After that, the winds get messy again for Sunday and Monday, with a cross-shore chop ruining what could be decent sized waves.
And then, the finale. The 1st of September, which is next week, a serious pulse of energy arrives. We’re looking at a massive 9.8ft of WNW swell with a 12-second period. The combined energy is a huge 2383, very strong. But there’s a big caveat. It’s a cross-shore wind, making it lumpy and challenging. This is for experts only. It’s a huge, powerful groundswell, and it’s not going to be pretty. Definitely not a beginner wave. The conditions are marginal at best, so treat it with a lot of respect.
So, there you have it. A slow start, a fun mid-range pulse mid-week, and one big, clean Saturday the 29th that's the highlight. The 1st of September is big and heavy, but only for the brave. This spot is inconsistent, so you gotta be on it when it's on.
