The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for this stretch. We’ve got a long 16-day window ahead, but don’t get your hopes up too early. This one is a slow burner.
Honestly, it’s a pretty bleak start for the next week and a half. From Wednesday the 15th right through to the evening of Saturday the 25th, the surf at Trez Hir is just a non-starter. We’re looking at tiny waves, messy winds, and a whole lot of nothing. The swell is barely a knee-high, with combined energy sitting in the weak range – mostly under 45 (34 to 45). The wind is all over the place, mostly cross or cross-off, but the swell just isn’t there. The real kicker is that the wind is often onshore or cross-onshore, chopping up anything that might try to form. There’s a brief moment on the 24th where the swell tries to push up to 3 ft, but the wind is cross, so it’s messy. For a spot that’s exposed to SSW, the direction here is just wrong for the size. Expect a long, blank run of about 10 days before we see anything worth paddling out for.
The Standout
Now, let’s talk about the one and only real highlight. The afternoon of Saturday the 25th of July is the moment we’ve been waiting for. Trez Hir finally comes alive. The swell is a proper 4 ft from the WNW, with a moderate 10-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a solid 454 (moderate wave energy). But the best part? The wind is offshore from the NW and light. That’s the magic combo. It’s going to be clean, glassy, and the waves will have some shape. The period is decent, so you’ll get some grunt, but it’s not so long that it’ll just wall up straight. For a spot that is fairly exposed to this swell direction, and with the offshore wind, this is the only session worth planning around. It’s a one-day wonder, but it’s a good one. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.
The Second Week
After that, things get messy again. Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th see the swell really pumping up, with waves hitting 5 ft to 8 ft, and the energy goes through the roof (1097 on Monday morning). But the wind is a strong, onshore S or SW, turning it into a lumpy, choppy mess. That’s kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing. The rest of the week into the 30th is a mix of marginal swells and strong cross-shore winds, making it a real struggle for clean waves. It’s a classic case of the swell getting big, but the wind ruining the party.
So, keep your eyes on that Saturday afternoon. That’s your window.
Rusty.
