The Lowdown
Right, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Larmor Plage over the next couple of weeks.
I’ll be straight with you – the waiting game is on. For the first week and a bit, from the 20th of July right through to the 27th, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, mostly 0.7ft to 1ft, and when a little bump does show up, the wind is mostly cross-off or cross-on, making it messy. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The first real hope comes on the morning of Monday the 28th of July. The swell gets a bit of life with a 1ft to 3ft WNW groundswell, and the period stretches out to 12 seconds in the morning. The wind is a light cross-off, so the surface should be clean. That said, the waves are still very ordinary, but it’s the first sign of life. The afternoon gets lumpy again with a fresh cross-shore.
Then the standout of the outlook is the morning of Tuesday the 29th of July. That’s the pick of the lot. The swell holds at 2ft from the WNW, with a 11-second period. The wind switches to a light offshore from the NNE, giving you clean, groomed faces. The afternoon stays clean with a light offshore from the north. This is the best window you’ve got – small but clean, and way better than the rest.
After that, from the 30th of July through to the 4th of August, it’s back to small, weak swell (1ft to 2ft), and the wind is mostly cross-off or cross-shore. The surf is poor, not worth chasing.
Overall, if you’re desperate, the 29th of July morning is your best bet. The rest of the window is a write-off for a proper session.
