The Lowdown
Right, let’s have a look at what’s brewing for Larmor Plage.
Honestly, for the next week and a half, it’s pretty grim. There’s a big gap of flat, poorly-conditioned stuff stretching from now right through until late August, with nothing worth paddling out for. The first real glimmer of something happens on Thursday morning, the 27th of August, when a solid 10ft W groundswell rolls in with a period of 10 seconds and a combined energy of 1877, but the winds are messy cross-shore and the forecast warns of marginal conditions. It’s still too raw to get excited about, and it’s way too big and lumpy for the beginners the break is known for.
The standout window in this whole 16-day stretch is shaping up for Wednesday morning, the 2nd of September. That’s the one to circle. You’ll see an 8ft swell from the WSW, period 9 seconds, with a very solid combined energy of 1874. The wind flips to a light ENE cross-off, meaning clean faces. The guidance hints that this is excellent for experienced surfers, so anyone who’s comfortable in overhead surf is going to have a proper session. The break itself is inconsistent, but when it fires like this, it’s worth the wait. Expect crowds here sometimes, so get in early.
Before that, there’s a huge pulse on Friday the 28th of August – 18ft from the WSW with a long 11-second period and a massive combined energy of 6189. But honestly, that’s way too big for Larmor Plage, and the wind is a fresh cross-off which just won't clean it up enough. That’s a day to watch from the car park, not paddle for.
After that Wednesday peak, the energy drops back, but there are some salvageable cameos. Saturday the 5th of September afternoon has a 6ft W swell with a moderate offshore wind from the NNW (16 mph), giving clean, manageable surf for a more average day, with combined energy at 484.
There’s no notable water temperature anomaly to speak of for Larmor Plage (Big Island) – it’s about average for the time of year.
So, overall: endure the long, flat gap at the start. The only true standout is Wednesday morning, 2nd September, for anyone with experience. After that, a couple of clean but smaller windows. Hang in there.
