The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for the coming weeks. Truth is, we’re in for a long, quiet spell. The first real surf worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until Monday, the 27th of July, so we’ve got a solid week of flatness and tiny, choppy junk to sit through. That’s a long gap with nothing to recommend, I’m afraid.
The only consistent spot on the radar is Larmor Plage. It’s a fairly exposed beginner-friendly beach, but it’s also inconsistent, so we’re not looking at a wave machine. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird going on there.
The first bit of hope arrives on Monday morning, the 27th of July. We’ll see a 4 ft swell from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s a short-period windswell, so don’t expect any real power or shape, but the combined energy hits 252 (moderate), so there’s some push. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NW, keeping things clean. It’s small and ordinary, but it’s surfable.
The real standout, the only one worth circling on the calendar, is Tuesday morning, the 28th of July. The swell bumps up to 5 ft from the W, still with a 9-second period. The combined energy ramps up to 339 (strong) and the wind swings to a light offshore from the NNW. That’s the magic combo: glassy, clean conditions with a decent punch of swell. For a beach break, this is the best on offer, though it’s pushing into the size where it’s a bit much for absolute beginners. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” so you might have a few out, but nothing crazy.
After that, Wednesday the 29th has a smaller 3 ft WNW swell with a 10-second period and clean morning offshore winds, but the energy drops to 180 (moderate). It’s okay, but not a standout. Then it all fades back into tiny, weak stuff for the rest of the window. The long-range hints on the 2nd of August are too small and weak to get excited about right now.
So, bottom line: it’s a long wait. Tuesday morning, the 28th of July, is your best bet. Get it while it’s clean.
Rusty.
