The Lowdown
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the table for Larmor Plage over the next couple of weeks. I'll be straight with you – it’s a bit of a slow burner. We're looking at a long stretch of pretty ordinary conditions before a little pulse of life shows up deep into the forecast.
The first few days are a write-off, I'm afraid. There's some swell around, but it's tiny, mostly been in the 0.3ft to 1ft range, and the wind is either too strong or onshore to make anything of it. The water temperature is a notable 69°F with a much warmer than normal anomaly, which is a nice touch if you're just getting wet, but the surf itself is a no-go. You'll be staring at a flat, choppy, or blown-out mess from Friday the 17th of July right through to the morning of Sunday the 26th of July. That's a solid nine-day gap with nothing worth paddling for.
Now, late on Sunday morning the 26th of July, we finally see something change. The energy jumps to a moderate 131 (combined energy of all swells directed here) with a 4ft swell from the WNW. It's a short period swell at 8 seconds, so it's a bit of a windswell, but it's clean with a light cross-offshore breeze. The wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," which is about right. It's not a classic, but it's the first real surfable push we've seen. After that, Monday morning the 27th of July looks like the real standout. The swell drops to 3ft from the WNW, but the period stretches to 9 seconds, giving it a bit more shape. The kicker is the glassy conditions with a slight air from the NW. That's a beautiful window for a clean, small-wave session. The energy is still moderate at 111, so there's enough push. This is your best bet for the whole outlook.
The following week, from the 30th of July onwards, there are a few more opportunities with 2ft to 2ft swells and clean conditions, but nothing that really lights up the board. The consistent cross-off winds will keep the surface tidy, but the wave heights are just too small for anything exciting. If you're desperate for a glide, a Thursday morning on the 30th of July with a 2ft, 10-second swell off the WNW and clean conditions could be a sneaky one, but it's still very small.
So, to sum it up: don't waste your time this week. Hold out for the glassy morning of Monday the 27th of July, that's your best window. Everything else is either too small or too choppy to get excited about.
Rusty.
