Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’ve got to be straight with you – the outlook for Larmor Plage over the next sixteen days is a quiet one. The models are showing a real lull, with no proper surf on the cards. For the first two weeks, the swell is tiny, mostly under 2 ft, and the wind is all over the place – cross, cross-on, sometimes onshore. It’s going to be choppy, lumpy, and just not worth paddling out for. The combined wave energy barely cracks 100 (drifting between 20 and 88), which is weak, weak energy. We’re looking at a long gap here, with no real recommendations for the first couple of weeks.
That said, there’s a flicker of hope right at the very tail end. On the 21st of July, a Tuesday morning, we finally see something a bit more interesting. The swell picks up to 4 ft from the WNW, with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 107 (moderate). The wind is blowing from the WNW at 12 mph, which is a nice cross-offshore breeze, keeping things clean. The afternoon holds a similar story: 4 ft from the WNW, period still 7 seconds, energy at 153 (solid moderate), and the wind is a bit stronger at 19 mph but still cross-offshore, so the surf will be clean and lined up.
This is the standout window, and it’s promising but it’s a long way off, so keep your expectations in check. For a beginner spot like Larmor Plage, that 4 ft is just about the sweet spot, not too big, but with that cross-off wind, it’ll be a whole lot more fun than anything we’ve seen before. The crowd factor is "sometimes" here, so you might have a few others out, but it’s not going to be a zoo.
The water temperature is sitting at 64° late in the first week, which is about 0.9° above average for the time of year – nothing unusual, just standard summer water.
So, to sum it up: the first two weeks are a write-off. The 21st of July is your best bet, but it’s a long-range call. Don’t hold your breath, but keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
