Alright, grab a coffee, let's have a look at the charts for Larmor Plage.
Honestly, for the next couple of weeks, this is a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch of very small, weak surf, and the conditions just aren't lining up. If you’re desperate for a paddle, there are a couple of moments that might get your heart rate up, but for the most part, it’s a waiting game.
The first real sniff of anything rideable is on Thursday morning, July 16th. Larmor Plage is the only spot in the mix here, and it’s showing a small pulse of swell. We’re looking at a 4ft swell from the west with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is a meagre (85), so it’s really just a weak, windswell bump. The morning glass is off and the wind is clean and cross-off, so it might be pretty if you're on a log, but it’s not going to offer much push. The water temp is about 64°F, which feels normal for the time of year.
Now, the next morning, Friday July 17th, has a bit more size. The swell jumps to 4ft from the WSW, but again, period is a short, weak 7 seconds. The combined energy creeps up to (155), so it’s got a bit more moderate grunt, but it’s still not a proper groundswell. The problem is the wind. It's a moderate cross-shore with chop in the morning, and by the afternoon it gets ragged with a fresh cross-onshore. For a beginner spot that’s inconsistent anyway, 4ft with a messy wind is not a good time. It’s going to be lumpy and hard to catch.
After that, we slide into another flat spell. There’s a weird peak around Monday morning, July 20th, with 3ft from the west and a moderate onshore wind. It’s small, short period, and choppy. The combined energy (124) is still weak. The afternoon cleans up nicely with a solid cross-off wind, but the swell has dropped to 3ft and the period is still short. It’s a tough sell.
The rest of the outlook is a washout. We drop down to tiny 1.0ft and 1ft stuff for the rest of July, with barely any energy to speak of. That gap between the 17th and the 20th is just a few days of nothing, but honestly, after the 20th it goes totally flat again.
Overall: The standout, if you can call it that, is the Friday morning, July 17th. The 4ft swell is the biggest we’ll see, but the wind is marginal at best. The cleaner, smaller option is Thursday morning, July 16th. It’s smaller at 4ft, but the wind is clean and cross-off which is a major positive for the quality of the wave face. Just don’t expect much. The setup, with weak swell and strong wind options later on, might even be more interesting for a kite surfer than for a paddle surfer.
It’s a bleak run, but that’s how it goes sometimes. Keep an eye on it; forecasts change.
