Table - best surf conditions forecast for Belle Ile over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. I’ve had a proper look at what’s coming for Belle Ile over the next couple of weeks, and honestly, it’s a lean run. There’s a big dry spell of flat or poor conditions, so you’ll need to be patient.
The first bit of something appears on Friday, 10th July, but it’s nothing to write home about. The swell is a weak 0.7ft from the WNW with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is feeble (96). The morning has a gentle offshore breeze (ENE 15 km/h), so it’ll be clean, but the waves are tiny and ordinary – not worth getting wet for. The afternoon turns choppy with onshore winds, so forget it.
From Saturday, 11th July right through to Tuesday, 22nd July, it’s mostly flat or blown out. Swell heights stay around 0.3ft to 0.4ft, energy falls into single or low double digits – there’s just nothing going on. Winds are messy or onshore most days, with only a few clean moments on tiny, closeout waves.
There is a spark on Thursday, 23rd July. The morning brings a clean 0.6ft swell from the WNW, 9-second period, and the energy climbs to a moderate 114. The wind is a cross-offshore from the ESE at 15 km/h, so it’ll be tidy. The waves are still small and ordinary, but it’s the best of the whole outlook. The afternoon is the real standout: 2ft from the WNW, energy jumps to 524 (moderate), with a cross-offshore breeze from the SSE at 30 km/h keeping it clean. That afternoon is the peak of the forecast – the biggest swell, clean, and with solid energy. The water temperature is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year at about 67°.
Belle Ile is an exposed beach set-up, and the optimum swell direction is SW, but the swell’s coming from WNW for most of this period, so it’s not a perfect match. The break is fairly consistent and beginner-friendly, but the 2ft afternoon on the 23rd will be too much for new surfers.
The best call is Thursday, 23rd July afternoon if you can wait that long. The rest of the forecast is a snooze. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but right now you’re better off staying home.
Rusty.
