Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a real good look at what’s coming up for Belle Île over the next couple of weeks. I'll be straight with you – it’s not gonna be a classic run.
The overall pattern is pretty flat and underwhelming for the most part, with only a couple of brief windows where you might get a fun little board. The water here is sitting at 66°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year – that's a nice little bonus if you're in a shorty.
We kick off on Monday, July 6th with a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is weak at (62). The morning looks best with a clean, moderate offshore wind from the east, making it surfable but very ordinary. Honestly, it’s small and weak – a longboard or a foamie might get you a few soft rides, but it’s nothing to get excited about. Afternoon goes glassy but the surf quality drops out completely.
Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th are similar – tiny 2ft waves with gentle offshores in the mornings. It’s clean but so small the combined energy is barely registering (39-70). Not really worth paddling out unless you’re desperate for a splash.
Thursday the 9th morning offers a slight bump to 2ft from the WNW, period at 10 seconds, and clean offshore wind from the ESE. Energy is still weak at (97). It’s rideable but ordinary. Friday the 10th morning is glassy with that same 2ft, but still pretty meager. Friday afternoon gets blown out by a strong onshore.
Saturday the 11th morning is clean again with a cross-offshore breeze and 2ft swell, but you’re still looking at weak energy (89). By Sunday the 12th we get a moderate offshore breeze from the ENE, but the swell drops back to 2ft, and the whole thing feels flat.
Then we hit a real dead zone. From Monday July 13th all the way through to Friday July 17th, the swell drops to almost nothing – we’re talking 0.3ft to 2ft with very low energy. It’s a stretch of days where you’d be better off doing anything else.
Now, here’s where it gets a bit more interesting, but not necessarily good. On Saturday July 18th, the swell jumps to 4ft from the west, period a short 6 seconds. Combined energy kicks up to moderate (134). But the wind is a fresh cross-shore, making it lumpy and messy. This is not a paddle surfer’s friend – with that short period and onshore/cross wind, this setup looks a lot more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Sunday July 19th brings the biggest swell of the whole forecast: 6ft from the WNW, period still short at 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps way up to (454), which is strong energy. But the wind is a moderate to fresh cross-onshore, making it choppy and poor. This is expert territory due to the size, and the wind is gonna wreck it. Again, a kite surfer's day, not a surfer's.
From Monday July 20th to Tuesday July 21st, the swell backs off to 3ft to 4ft, but with onshore or cross-shore winds and short periods. It stays poor.
So, what’s the best on offer? Honestly, the standouts are few. The Monday morning July 6th session is okay for a beginner – tiny 2ft from the WNW with a clean offshore. If you’re desperate, Thursday morning July 9th is similar. But really, if you’re looking for a true standout, there isn’t one in this 16-day window. The best chance for a wave is the Sunday the 19th, but it’s only for experts and the wind is awful.
Keep an eye on the forecasts, because it tends not to stay this flat for long around here.
Rusty.
