Table - best surf conditions forecast for Porsmilin over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Porsmilin has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I’ve got to be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. We’re looking at a long, dry spell of flat, weak conditions. For the first ten days, from Saturday the 11th right through to Wednesday the 22nd of July, the surf is basically a write-off. You’ll see tiny waves, mostly under 3ft, with poor surf conditions flagged for every single session. The combined swell energy is low, barely hitting 100 (105) on the best of those days, and mostly sitting in the weak 30-80 range. The winds are clean enough at times – we get some nice offshore breezes from the NNE – but there’s just no swell to work with. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t be freezing if you take a paddle.
Now, things do finally start to look up as we get into the second week. The standout window is Friday the 24th of July. The morning kicks off with a solid 7ft swell from the west, with a short period of 6 seconds, but light offshore winds from the NE. The combined energy jumps to a strong 317, and the conditions are clean. That’s the first real sign of life. But the absolute best on offer is the Friday afternoon session. You’ve got a 10ft swell from the WNW, with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy rockets up to 1464. That’s proper, powerful surf. The wind is light from the NNW, keeping it clean. This is excellent surf, but I have to warn you – at 10ft, this is for experienced surfers only. Beginners, stay on the sand for this one.
Saturday the 25th still has plenty of size – 10ft in the morning and 7ft in the afternoon – but the wind swings to the west and WNW, putting a cross-shore chop on it. The energy is still massive (3380 in the morning, 928 in the afternoon), but the quality drops off. It’s more of a challenge than a classic.
After that, Sunday the 26th sees the swell drop back to 6ft, but onshore winds from the SSE and south mess it up with a choppy, bumpy surface. Not the one.
So, to wrap it up: the first ten days are a flat bust. The only real standout is Friday the 24th of July, especially the afternoon for the experienced crew. It’s a long wait, but it might just be worth it.
Rusty.
