Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Righto folks, Rusty here. Let's have a proper look at what's on the cards for our local stretch. It's a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest. We've got a window of decent, clean conditions right at the start, but then a long, drawn-out patch of ordinary and poor surf fills up most of the forecast. It’s not all doom and gloom though, because there’s one session that stands out as the clear winner, and a later period that might just fire up if we’re lucky.

The best surf of the whole run is this Saturday morning, July 4th. Down at Porsmilin, we’ve got a clean, 4ft swell rolling in from the W with a nice 10-second period. The wind is a light N breeze which will keep things cross-off and tidy. The water’s sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The combined energy is decent at 267, giving the waves a bit of push. This is the standout morning.

After that, things get a bit tricky. Sunday morning, July 5th, offers up a smaller, weaker 2ft swell, but the NNE offshore wind will hold it together for a clean little session if you’re desperate. By the afternoon, the wind picks up and it's back to poor conditions.

Monday morning, July 6th, is a curious one. We’ve got a little 3ft swell and it’s dead glassy with a light E breeze. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly, but for a small wave cruise with no wind, it’s okay. The energy is low at 110, so don’t expect much power.

From Tuesday, July 7th, right through to Friday, July 10th, it’s a tough run. We’re stuck with tiny swell, mostly under 3ft, and the winds are predominantly onshore or cross-onshore. It’s going to be poor surf, no way around it.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting for the more experienced crew. Saturday, July 11th, brings a pulse of swell, with the morning seeing 3ft but a long 11-second period, even though the wind is a moderate NW 15 mph. The real story is the afternoon. The swell jumps to 6ft from the W, with the combined energy spiking to 589. This is a solid, powerful groundswell. The problem is the wind swings WNW and gets strong (15 mph), creating a messy cross-shore chop. Because of the size, this is for experts only. The long period (10 seconds) might make it a bit walled-up at Porsmilin’s sandbar setup, but if you’ve got the skill, there’s power.

Sunday, July 12th, continues with the big swell, 6ft in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon. The wind is still cross-onshore and cross-shore, so it’s going to be a battle. The wave energy stays high (580 and 475), but the quality is poor. This is more of a challenging, heavy water day than a clean surf day.

From Monday, July 13th, we’re back into a long, flat spell. The swell drops off significantly. Monday morning has a clean 3ft with a WNW direction, and Tuesday morning, July 14th, has a glassy 3ft, but the energy is low and the conditions are ordinary. From Wednesday, July 15th, right through to the end of the forecast on Sunday, July 19th, we’re looking at tiny, weak waves, mostly under 2ft. The winds are generally light or moderate, but there’s just no swell to work with. It’s a blank run, plain and simple.

So, to sum it up: Saturday morning is your best bet for a proper, fun surf. If you’re an expert, the afternoon of Saturday, July 11th, might give you a raw, powerful wave, but it won’t be pretty. Everything else is a waiting game.

Rusty.
