Pors Carn Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for our local stretch.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a bit of a rough start. We're looking at a solid 16-day window, but the first week and a half is pretty much a write-off. There's a big gap of low-quality, unsurfable conditions from Wednesday afternoon all the way through to the end of the first week. The swell is tiny, the wind is all over the place, and the energy just isn't there. You'll be staring at flat, choppy water more often than not.

The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until the 12th of August. Wednesday morning brings a small but clean pulse from the west, with a swell height of 3ft and a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 160, and with light offshore winds, it’ll be glassy. It's not going to be world-class, but after a week of nothing, it's a welcome sight. That little window of clean surf carries through to the 13th, with a slightly bigger 4ft swell from the west on Thursday morning, and a bit more energy up to 189.

Now, the real standout for the whole period, the one you want to circle on your calendar, is the 13th of August, Thursday afternoon. We’re looking at a 5ft swell from the west, with a period of 9 seconds and a combined energy of 332 – that's a strong, punchy pulse. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the WNW, keeping the face of the wave nice and groomed. For Pors Carn, a beach and reef setup, this is going to produce some proper, rippable waves. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.

The swell gets a bit bigger on the 14th of August, Friday, hitting 5ft, but the wind swings cross-shore and gets fresh, making it lumpy and messy. That's a pass for me. The 15th and 16th see some cleaner conditions again, but the swell drops off and the wind stays strong, so it's back to being ordinary.

So, if you're looking for the best on offer, it's the 13th of August. Thursday afternoon is your session. The earlier morning of the 12th and 13th are solid backups if you can't wait. Don't expect much else until then. The long-range stuff around the 17th onwards looks a bit more promising on paper with some bigger swells, but the wind is still a gamble, so we'll have to see how that plays out.
