The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Portigliolo’s got cookin’.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next sixteen days are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’ve got a little bump of swell on Monday the 27th, but it’s not gonna give us anything clean. The water’s sitting at a very warm 81°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a bit of a strange one.

Monday morning sees a 5ft swell rolling in from the WNW, with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 586, but the wind is onshore from the WNW at 6 mph, so it’ll be messy. By Monday afternoon, it gets worse with a cross-onshore breeze. After that, it’s pretty much a write-off for the rest of the week. We’ve got a long gap from Tuesday the 28th all the way through until Monday the 11th of August. There are tiny little knee-high waves here and there, but everything is rated as poor surf. You’ll see some glassy mornings on the 29th, 30th, 2nd, and 3rd of August, but the swell is basically flat (0.7ft to 1ft) with no energy at all.

The one and only standout, and I mean the *only* one, comes on Tuesday the 11th of August. It’s a long way out, so keep your expectations in check. The afternoon shows a 3ft swell from the west with a period of 8 seconds and combined energy of 112, which is weak. But with the onshore wind from the WNW at 16 mph, it’s going to be blown out and messy. Honestly, even that isn’t worth getting excited about.

Given the constant poor conditions, tiny swell, and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds, this setup looks far more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer for pretty much the entire outlook. It’s a disappointing run, but for a spot that’s inconsistent, this kind of blank spell isn’t all that unusual.

Rusty.
