Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Capbreton - La Pointe.
Alright folks, strap in, because we’re looking at a pretty dire run for the next couple of weeks here at Capbreton - La Pointe (France). It’s one of those outlooks where you might want to keep the board in the bag unless you're just keen for a paddle. The data shows the water temp is sitting at a unusually warm 73.2°, which is 5.4° above normal for the time of year – that’s a big anomaly and it feels more like a bath than the Atlantic.
For the first three days, through Tuesday the 7th to Thursday the 10th of July, it’s honestly a write-off. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1.6ft to 2.6ft from the NW or WNW, and the wind is mostly cross-on or onshore. The wave energy is weak, with values mostly in the 40s and 50s (moderate combined swell energy: 46), and the conditions are just poor. Not a single score above zero in that stretch.
We finally get a tiny glimmer of hope on Saturday the 11th of July. The morning shows a little 2.6ft WNW swell with a clean texture and a light cross-offshore breeze from the East. It's still very ordinary surf, but at least it's clean. That window is narrow though, as the afternoon goes straight back to messy cross-onshore slop.
Sunday the 12th of July morning is your next real chance to get a wet suit on. We’ve got clean, glassy conditions with an ESE breeze and a 2.3ft WNW swell. The combined energy is still pretty low at 86, so don’t expect any juice, but it’ll be the most pleasant paddle of the week. This is actually the best on offer in the whole forecast period.
After that, it’s a long slog. There are a few clean mornings again on Thursday the 16th of July and Tuesday the 22nd of July, with glassy conditions, but the swell is tiny – 2.6ft and 1ft respectively. There’s just not enough push. You’ll see a bump up to 3.9ft and 4.6ft on Monday the 13th and Monday the 20th of July, but the period is short (6-7 seconds) and the wind is cross-on or onshore, so it’ll be a choppy mess. The combined energy on Monday the 20th hits 110, but it’s not usable.
Honestly, if you’re a beginner wanting an easy paddle, Sunday the 12th of July morning is the pick. Otherwise, this is a blank run. The setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer with these windy, choppy afternoons. It tends not to stay this poor forever, but this stretch is a test of patience.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 24°C on Thu afternoon, min 19°C on Thu morning). Wind will be generally light. | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 34°C on Sat afternoon, min 20°C on Fri night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
