The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the cards for Capbreton - La Pointe.
The next week and a half looks pretty grim. We’re dealing with weak, short-period groundswell and onshore or cross-onshore winds pretty much constantly. The water is sitting at an unusually warm 77°, way hotter than normal for late summer—feels like a bath, not that it helps the waves.
The first chance for a surf that’s even worth talking about is Saturday the 22nd. The wind goes light cross-offshore from the ESE, cleaning things up, and we’ve got 4ft of NW swell with a 9-second period. It’s weak but surfable—very ordinary, though. Sunday the 23rd morning is even better wind-wise; glass-off with a southerly, but the swell drops to just 3ft and a poor 7-second period. It’ll be clean and tiny.
Then we hit a long, boring stretch from Sunday afternoon all the way until Wednesday the 27th. Just small, wind-battered slop.
Here’s the one to get excited about: Thursday the 27th of August. A proper 7ft WNW swell, 10-second period, and the combined energy is a healthy 908. That’s a powerful swell. The wind is light south, cross-offshore, and the conditions are expected to be very good. At this size, though, it’s for experienced surfers only—steep, strong, and likely a handful. For the crew that knows what they’re doing, this is the session.
Friday the 28th morning looks clean and glassy with a 4ft NW swell—tide-dependent, but a much more approachable option if you want something fun. Otherwise, this whole two-week window is a long wait for that one big day.
Rusty.
