The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let's break down what Capbreton - La Pointe is looking like for the next couple of weeks. The honest truth is, it’s a pretty flat start. The whole first half of this forecast window is a bust for any proper surfing, with tiny, weak swell and generally poor conditions. We're looking at a long gap of about ten days with nothing worth paddling out for.
The water temperature is running a very unusual 76°, which is a full 7° warmer than normal for mid-July. You’ll be sweating in your wetsuit, or more likely, just in boardies.
So, nothing doing until we get to the 23rd of July. On Thursday the 23rd, a small pulse shows up. We're looking at ankle-to-knee high, 4ft swell from the WNW, but the period is short at 8 seconds. The wind is cross-on, making it a choppy mess. Combined wave energy is moderate at 170. It’s still a "poor surf conditions" call, so don't get your hopes up.
The real standout, and the only one worth circling on your calendar, is Monday the 27th of July. The morning is looking absolutely prime. We’ve got a solid 6ft groundswell from the WNW with a nice 11-second period, pushing the combined energy up to a strong 681. The wind? Dead calm, glassy conditions. That’s the ticket. This is clean, powerful, head-high surf. However, at 6ft, it's starting to get a bit much for true beginners. The break can handle it, and with those conditions, it's going to be a fantastic session for anyone with a bit of experience.
Tuesday the 28th still has some leftover energy, with a 5ft swell from the NW, but the wind swings cross-on, making it a bit bumpy. It’s a step down from the day prior.
Then Wednesday the 29th morning is another promising call. Glassy conditions with a light offshore breeze from the East, and a solid 6ft swell from the WNW. The period drops to 9 seconds, and the combined energy is still a strong 498. This looks like another clean, powerful day.
So, to sum it up: the first ten days are a complete bust. Then we get a couple of promising mornings right at the end of the month. Monday the 27th is the absolute standout for clean, glassy, head-high waves. Wednesday the 29th is the backup. Don't sleep on those mornings.
Rusty.
