Table - best surf conditions forecast for Capbreton - La Pointe over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the 16-day picture for Capbreton – La Pointe.
To be brutally honest, the next couple of weeks are looking tough. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak, and messy conditions coming up. The water is running much warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 75°, which is a real anomaly, but it’s not going to make up for the lack of quality surf.
The first real chance of anything worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until Saturday the 18th of July. Even then, it’s a bit of a gamble. The swell picks up to 5ft in the morning from the WNW, with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 185 (moderate), but the wind is a cross-onshore from the WNW at 9 mph, making it choppy. By the afternoon, the swell hits 5ft, but it’s onshore from the NW with the same wind, which is too big for beginners and just messy for everyone else. This setup honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The next little window of hope comes in the second week, on Thursday the 23rd of July. The morning brings a 4ft NW swell with a 9-second period and moderate energy of 216, but it’s cross-onshore again. The afternoon cleans up a bit with a light NW breeze, dropping to 3ft.
The best of the lot, the true standout, is Friday the 24th of July. For the morning, we’ve got a clean 3ft swell from the WNW with a 9-second period, and here’s the key – an offshore wind from the ESE at 9 mph. Combined energy is a solid 132 (moderate). The afternoon turns glassy with a NNE breeze, which is as good as it gets. The waves are small but clean, and the wind is perfect. This is the one to circle on the calendar. Crowds are possible at this spot, so get there early.
The swell direction is WNW, which matches the optimum swell direction for this break. It’s a pretty ordinary run of surf for the most part, but that Friday the 24th offers a genuine chance for some clean, fun waves.
Rusty.
