Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s coming up for Capbreton - La Pointe.
Right off the bat, it’s been a quiet week of small surf, but we’ve got a proper pulse of energy building later on. The standout is shaping up for Saturday, July 18th.
Let’s kick off Friday, July 3rd. The morning brings a glassy 3ft NW swell with a period of 9 seconds and combined wave energy of (241). The water is sitting at 74°, which is much warmer than normal for the time of year – over six degrees above average, which is very unusual. That Friday morning is surfable but very ordinary, and it’s the only real window that day. The afternoon turns messy with onshore wind.
Saturday the 4th is a write-off with cross-onshore and onshore winds all day. Sunday the 5th gives us a brief look around dawn: a clean 2ft WNW swell with light cross-offshore breeze from the ENE. It’s small but rideable for the beginners this spot is known for. By Sunday afternoon, the wind swings N and it gets choppy.
Monday the 6th has a similar story: a tiny clean 2ft NW swell in the morning, then blown out. Tuesday the 7th through Thursday the 10th are essentially flat and poor – you’re looking at swell under 3ft and a lot of cross-onshore or onshore wind. The 8th morning is glassy but with a 2ft NNW 6-second windswell – that’s barely a ripple. There’s a real dry spell here of several days with no worthwhile waves.
Friday the 11th sees a bump in size to 3ft WNW swell with a longer 11-second period, but the moderate cross-onshore wind spoils it. Combined energy reaches (204) by the afternoon, but it’s choppy. Saturday the 12th is the same deal: 3ft and cross-onshore.
Monday the 13th afternoon is interesting for a moment – a 3ft NW swell leaps up to a 13-second period and (320) energy, but the onshore wind kills it. Don’t get excited.
Tuesday the 14th brings the first real size: 6ft NW swell at 11 seconds in the morning with (828) combined energy. That’s moderate-strong energy. But the wind is cross-onshore WSW at 15 km/h, which leaves it marginal. That’s bigger than 5ft, so it’s likely too much for the beginners this break is suited for. Wednesday the 15th cleans up with glassy conditions in the morning for a 4ft NW swell – clean, but very ordinary.
Then we get to Saturday, July 18th. This is the one. The morning wake-up shows a glassy 6ft WNW swell with a 9-second period and combined energy of (477). The wind is from the N at just 5 km/h – glassy. That’s expert-level size, over 8ft it would be for experts only, but 6ft is still big and powerful here, and with light offshore flow, it’s going to be clean. It’s a fairly consistent spot, so there’ll be waves. The crowd factor says "sometimes" – expect some company. The swell direction from the WNW matches the optimum for this break. Afternoon sees the wind pick up cross-onshore and chop it up, so make the dawn patrol.
For the rest, there’s nothing else that stands out. The 18th is your day.
