The Lowdown
Alright, I’m Rusty, and let’s talk surf at Karramarro. The first week is mostly a flat spell, so don’t rush. The first real movement comes on the morning of Thursday, August 27th, when a 1.8m (6 ft) WNW swell shows up with clean, cross-offshore wind. Still, it’s only a so-so call.
Water temp is a warm 25°C (76°F), which is about 3° warmer than usual for this time of year – pretty unusual.
The standout is Saturday, August 29th morning. You’re looking at a 2.3m (8 ft) NW swell with a 10-second period, and glassy wind – flat calm. This point break will handle that long-period groundswell well, and the wave energy is strong (1090). Conditions look excellent, though this spot is inconsistent and often crowded, so get there early.
The real highlight, though, is Tuesday, September 3rd morning. That’s the one. A 2.1m (7 ft) NW swell with a very long 13-second period, glassy conditions again, and wave energy cranking at 1435. It’s excellent for experienced surfers. With clean, offshore wind, those lines are going to be perfect on the point. No crowds guaranteed, but this place can get busy.
After that, Friday, September 4th morning is solid with 2.3m (8 ft) NW swell and good offshore wind. Saturday, September 5th holds 2.5m (8 ft) NW swell, but wind picks up to 25 km/h (16 mph), making it a bit wild.
When the swell hits over 5 ft (1.5m) on the 27th, beginners might want to sit out. Once it pushes past 8 ft (2.3m) on September 3rd, that’s only for the experienced crew.
Last good window is Sunday, September 6th morning – 1.9m (6 ft) NW swell, clean offshore wind, wave energy at 687 – very good.
Bottom line: September 3rd morning is your best bet – glassy, long-period groundswell, and excellent for those who can handle it. August 29th is a close second.
Catch you in the lineup,
Rusty
