The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s be straight with you: this outlook for the next 16 days is a tough one. The surf here is small and weak for the most part, with a long stretch of nothing worth paddling out for. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Saturday the 25th of July, and even then it’s a tease. There’s a gap of about 10 days from the start of the forecast period until that first decent window, so don’t bother checking the cams before then.
The standout day is Saturday the 25th of July at Karramarro, a point break that’s inconsistent and for advanced surfers only. The swell coming from the NW at 3ft might not sound big, but it’s packing a long period of 12 seconds—proper groundswell energy with decent shape. The combined energy sits at 364 (moderate), and the morning is glassy, with light ESE wind doing nothing to mess up the face. Conditions will be clean, and those long-period lines will hold up nicely on the point. Crowds are likely here, so get out early.
The following morning, Monday the 27th of July, is also worth a mention. Glassy conditions again with ESE wind, but the swell drops to 4ft from the NW at 10 seconds. The combined energy is 235 (moderate), but it’s not as clean or consistent as the Saturday. Still, it’s surfable if you’re desperate.
Then Tuesday the 28th of July morning fires up with a bigger pulse: 5ft from the NW, period of 10 seconds, and combined energy hitting 507 (strong). With glassy conditions again, it’ll be punchy and clean. This is the second standout, but it’s only for experts—anything over 5ft is too big for beginners here. The afternoon gets chopped up by cross-onshore wind, so get on it early.
Beyond that, Wednesday the 29th of July morning has another glassy window with 5ft from the NW at 10 seconds, energy at 363 (moderate). It’s solid but not as powerful as Tuesday.
The rest of the period is weak, with small slop under 2ft and poor winds. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual. No kite-surfing interest here—the swell is just too small.
Signing off, Rusty.
