The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for this stretch.
Right off the bat, it’s a slow start. The first few days are pretty much a write-off—tiny, crummy waves with weak energy, and not much to get excited about. We’re looking at a real dry spell from Monday 17th right through to Wednesday 19th, with nothing worth paddling out for. Swell is small, wind isn't helping, and the energy readings are in the double digits, barely registering. It’s a proper gap of dead flat conditions.
Then things start to shift. Thursday 20th morning shows a little pulse of life—a 4 ft NW swell, period pushing 11 seconds, and glassy conditions. That’s a nice clean start, and the combined energy climbs to a moderate 284. It’s still small, but it’s surfable and will be tidy. By Thursday afternoon it gets a bit lumpy with a cross-onshore breeze, so the morning is the call.
Friday 21st sees a bump in size to 5 ft, but the wind is messy and there’s some rain around, so it’s not going to be great. Saturday and Sunday drop back down into the small and choppy zone again, with energy falling under 200.
The real standout? It’s all pointing to Saturday 29th August. That morning at Karramarro, we’ve got a proper pulse—15 ft of NW swell with a long 14-second period. The combined energy is enormous, a massive 7644. Wind is dead calm, glassy as it gets. This is for experts only, no question—over 8 ft is serious stuff, and this is way up there. The swell direction matches the optimum from the northwest perfectly, and with that period, it’s a groundswell that’s going to unload. This is the morning to have your big-wave gear ready. It’s still a week and a half out, so keep an eye on it, but the potential is huge.
Leading up to that, Thursday 28th afternoon offers a 8 ft WNW swell with moderate energy (1133), but it’s cross-on and not as clean. The Saturday 30th morning is still solid with 8 ft, glassy again, and very good conditions for those who can handle it.
After that, Monday 31st and Tuesday 1st September keep the swell up around 6 ft to 8 ft, with clean offshore winds, but the energy starts to drop. Good fun, but not the highlight.
So the bottom line: sit tight through the first week, maybe get a little Thursday 20th morning glassy session in if you’re desperate. The real prize is the 29th August morning—big, clean, and powerful. Mark it.
