The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming down the pipe for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we've got a long quiet stretch. The first few days are a write-off, with tiny, weak waves and messy winds. Nothing to get excited about until we hit Thursday the 20th. That morning, the wind goes glassy and we see a pulse of 4ft NW groundswell with an 11-second period. The energy reading is moderate (304), and that clean, glassy wind will make for some nice, lined-up waves. This is your best bet for the first week – a true standout. It’s Karramarro, a point break that’s advanced-level and inconsistent, so don't expect a crowd, but don't expect a circus either. It's a fairly exposed spot, and the swell direction from the NW is exactly what it wants to see.
Friday morning the 21st builds on that, with 5ft of NW swell and the same glassy conditions. The energy jumps to a strong 478, so there’s some real push behind it. This is a solid window for the experienced crew. Water temp is sitting at a very unusual 77°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a nice bonus.
After that, we go through a few days of smaller, ordinary surf, with winds that are mostly okay but nothing special. It’s not terrible, but it’s not worth planning your week around.
The next true standout pops up on Tuesday the 1st of September. The afternoon session delivers a 6ft NW groundswell with a long 11-second period and clean, offshore wind from the SW. The energy is very strong (671), and this is the kind of punch that gets the heart pumping. It’s a deep-water groundswell, so expect well-shaped, powerful waves at this point. This is the call of the second week, but it's still a long way out, so keep an eye on it. Wednesday the 2nd will still have good, clean waves in the morning with similar energy (662), but the afternoon gets a bit chopped up by a cross-shore wind.
So, to sum it up: the first week is all about Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st mornings for clean, glassy conditions on a building swell. The second week, keep your fingers crossed for Tuesday the 1st of September afternoon for the biggest, cleanest, most powerful surf of the entire outlook.
Stay wet,
Rusty
