The Lowdown
Hey, it’s Rusty. Let’s talk waves around Locquirec for the next couple weeks. Brace yourself – it’s a slow start. From Saturday the 22nd right through Thursday the 27th of August, there’s almost no surf worth paddling out for. That’s a solid six-day gap of flat, crummy conditions. Don’t even bother wetting a suit.
Finally, on Friday the 28th of August, we see a pulse. That morning, a 5ft (1.4m) swell out of the west, with a 10-second period, rolls in. Combined swell energy is moderate at 356. The wind is fresh offshore from the WSW, makin’ it clean and smooth. For a beginner or someone wantin’ a fun, easy session, this is your best shot in the whole forecast.
Saturday the 29th of August pushes it up a notch – 6ft (1.9m) from the WNW, with an energy of 512. That’s getting’ into solid intermediate territory, and the cross-off wind keeps it clean. If you’ve got the skills, this is the bigger, punchier day.
The second week gets messy again. Onshore northeast winds blow for days, churnin’ up the surface. There’s a small relief on Sunday the 30th of August, with a 4ft (1.2m) west swell and an offshore breeze – it’s ordinary but rideable. Monday the 31st of August goes glassy with a 3ft (1.0m) WNW swell, clean and small. Nothin’ special but you’ll get a wave.
Thursday the 3rd of September has some size – 5ft (1.4m) from the WNW, 10-second period, and a strong energy of 417 – but the onshore northeast wind at 20–25 mph blows it out. Frustrating, ‘cause the swell’s there.
The standout is that Friday the 28th of August morning: clean, offshore, 5ft (1.4m) west swell. That’s your call. Saturday the 29th is for the more experienced crew. Water temp is 66°F (19°C), a touch warmer than usual for the season.
So hang tight through the drought, hit Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th, then it gets patchy again. Stay stoked.
Rusty.
