Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Look, I’ve got to be straight with you – the next couple of weeks around Le Petit Minou are a bit of a mixed bag and nothing to get the heart pounding. There’s a bit of a wait for anything decent, but there are a couple of windows that’ll get you wet.
The water’s sitting at 65° right now, which is a touch warmer than we'd normally expect for this time of year, so that’s a nice little bonus.
The first real sniff of something worth paddling out for is on Wednesday morning, the 9th of July. Early doors, we’ve got a glassy start with a light NNE offshore wind at 9 mph. The swell is a clean 3 ft from the WNW at a 10-second period, giving us a moderate wave energy (132). It’s not pumping, but it’s surfable and clean. Not a standout, but it’s a start. The afternoon gets blown out by a strong NNE wind at 22 mph, so make it a dawn patrol.
Friday the 11th of July is where the best of the week sits. The morning kicks off with a steady ENE offshore wind at 19 mph, making for a fresh, clean surface. The swell is 3 ft from the WNW, still with that 10-second period, and the energy is moderate (147). This is the pick of the run – the wind is blowing straight off the land, and the waves, while not huge, will have a bit of shape to them. The afternoon is similar, but the wind picks up even more, so it’s all about the morning session here.
After that, things go quiet. The swell drops right off – we’re talking 1 ft waves from Sunday the 13th right through the middle of the month. The wind is either howling or too light, so the poor conditions keep rolling. There’s a gap of about five to six days with absolutely nothing recommended.
Then, on Saturday the 19th of July, there’s a bit of a late call. The morning is completely glassy – no wind at all – and the swell bumps up to 3 ft from the WSW. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’s a bit weak (energy of 68), but with zero wind, it’ll be a mirror-flat surface. It’s small and weak, but if you’re desperate for a glassy groomer, it’s your only real option.
The final shout is on Wednesday the 22nd of July. Again, a glassy start with no wind from the east, and the swell is 3 ft from the NW at a 6-second period. The energy is still low (59), but it’s clean. The afternoon picks up a light NNE cross-offshore breeze and the swell gets just a tick bigger to 4 ft, giving a bit more push (98). This is another small, clean window, but nothing to cancel plans for.
Overall, the best bet is that Friday morning (11th July) with the fresh offshore wind and moderate swell. The Saturday morning (19th) and Wednesday (22nd) are your glassy, small-wave backups. Everything else is a write-off.
Rusty.
