Table - best surf conditions forecast for Le Petit Minou over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – if you’re looking for a proper session at Le Petit Minou over the next couple of weeks, you’re gonna be disappointed. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off. There are no standout days, no real recommendations to get excited about. The swell just never shows up with any quality, and when it does have a little size, the wind ruins it. We’ve got a long, flat stretch with nothing worth paddling out for.
Let’s run through it, but keep your expectations low.
Wednesday 8th July kicks things off. Early morning, you’ve got a little 3 ft swell from the WNW with a period of 10 seconds. Combined wave energy is only 109 (weak), so don’t expect much push. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the north at 5 km/h, which would normally be nice and clean, but the waves are just too ordinary. By the afternoon, the wind picks up to 25 km/h, making it even worse.
Thursday 9th – Morning has offshore wind from the NNE at 20 km/h, but the swell is still tiny at 3 ft, and the energy is weak at 132. It’s clean but weak. Afternoon gets blown out with 35 km/h cross-offshore winds. Not worth it.
Friday 10th – Morning offers the best conditions of the whole run, which isn’t saying much. A 3 ft swell from the WNW, 9-second period, 162 combined energy (still moderate at best), and gentle offshore wind from the NE at 15 km/h. The waves are clean but just very ordinary. Afternoon stays clean but the swell drops back to 3 ft.
From Saturday 11th right through to Tuesday 22nd July, it’s a grim story. Swell sizes bounce between 1 ft and 3 ft most days, with the occasional bump. The winds are often strong offshore, cross-offshore, or worse – cross-onshore and onshore. The combined energy is mostly two-digit weak numbers. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Friday 17th July – Here’s the only spike. The swell jumps to 5 ft in the morning and 6 ft in the afternoon from the SW and WSW, with a short period of just 7 seconds. The combined energy hits 279 then 320 (moderate). But don’t get excited – the wind is cross-onshore at 20-25 km/h, making it choppy and messy. It’s a setup that would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Saturday 18th – Slight drop back to 3 ft, still cross-onshore. Poor.
Sunday 19th through Wednesday 22nd – Tiny waves, strong winds, and messy conditions. On Wednesday 22nd, the swell hits 7 ft in the morning from the WNW with 8-second period and combined energy of 472 (strong), but the wind is cross-onshore at 35 km/h. That’s ugly, lumpy, and only for experts who don’t mind a beating. Even then, the quality is poor.
Thursday 23rd – The last day in the window, a 5 ft WNW swell with moderate cross-shore wind. Still nothing to recommend.
So there you have it. A whole 16 days with no real chances. This kind of blank run is pretty normal for the area when the wind and swell don’t line up. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board in the shed.
Rusty.
