Table - best surf conditions forecast for Le Petit Minou over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's comin' up for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it's a rough start. We're looking at a whole lot of nothin' for the first week and a half. From now all the way through to the 20th of July, it's mostly flat or tiny, chopped-up junk. The swell is just too small, the wind is messy, and the water is gonna be a lake most days. There's a little spike on the 16th and 17th, but with onshore winds and short-period slop, it's not worth paddling out for. You're better off waxing your board and waiting.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on the morning of Monday the 21st of July. Le Petit Minou (a beach and point break) will start to see a bit of life with a NW swell pushing 5 ft. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the N, so it'll be smooth. The wave energy is building too, with a combined energy of 285 (moderate). It's still a bit marginal, but it's the first sign of something happening.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. The standout is the morning of Wednesday the 22nd of July. We've got a solid 8 ft NW groundswell rolling in with a period of 9 seconds, and the wind is a clean offshore from the N. The energy is pumping at 773 (strong), and the water is 66°, which is a couple of degrees warmer than usual for this time of year – feels like a tropical treat. This is the best window for a surfer who knows what they're doing. It's going to be a lot of fun, but watch out, the crowds are often here.
However, by the afternoon of that same day, the swell jumps to 10 ft. That’s getting big for this spot, and the forecast says it's predicted to be too big for this break. The cross-offshore wind is still there, but at that size, it's only going to be for the experts, and the waves might be closing out a bit. The energy is massive at 1199 (very strong), but it's a case of too much of a good thing.
The 23rd of July is also huge, with 10 ft of NW swell, but the wind turns cross-shore, making it lumpy. The same size issue applies – only for the very brave or the very foolish.
After that, the swell slowly drops back down through the 24th to the 27th, but the wind is never quite clean enough to call it a proper session. It's a shame, because the water is warm and the potential is there, but the ocean just isn't playing ball for the full two weeks.
So, bottom line: if you're chasing a wave, the morning of the 22nd of July is your best bet. It's not perfect, but it's the only real window of quality in this whole forecast.
Rusty.
