Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hossegor - La Centrale over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a hard look at what’s on the table for Hossegor - La Centrale over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you: it’s a bit of a flat spell to start, and we’re going to have to dig deep to find anything worthwhile.
Right now, through the first half of the period, the dominant story is a lack of real energy. We’re seeing tiny, weak swell with combined energy mostly in the double digits, and often with poor wind conditions. The water temperature is a whopping 74°, which is a full 6° above normal – that’s very unusual for this time of year, and it’s the warmest we’ll see for a while.
The first real flicker of hope comes on Saturday morning, 11 July. We’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, but the big deal is the wind. It’s dead calm – glassy conditions. The period is 9 seconds, and the combined energy (104) is just starting to get into the moderate range. It’s small, but it’ll be clean. If you’re desperate for a slide, this is your window.
The entire following week, from Sunday 12 July through to Friday 17 July, is a write-off. We’re talking puny swell heights between 0.7ft and 3ft, with very weak energy in the 20s and 30s, and predominantly onshore or cross-onshore winds. Don’t even bother waxing up.
We finally get a pulse of something bigger on Saturday 18 July. The swell jumps to 5ft to 5ft from the WNW, with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy hits 185-198, which is moderate. But here’s the catch: the wind is mostly cross-onshore. The waves will be there, but they’ll be a bit messy. At this size, it’s getting into expert territory, especially with the short period making it dumpy.
After that, it’s back to mediocrity until we hit the end of the forecast window. The standout, and I mean the only real standout, looks to be Saturday morning, 25 July. We’re talking a solid 5ft from the NW with a 9-second period. The combined energy is a strong 316, which is the highest we’ll see. The wind is a light cross-shore from the north, which will keep things clean. The direction is a bit off the optimum, but with that much energy, it’ll still be firing. It’s a long way out, so take it with a pinch of salt, but this is the one to circle on the calendar.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a washout. Your best bet is the tiny, glassy 2ft on Saturday morning the 11th if you just want to get wet. The only real swell of note is that Saturday morning the 25th, but it’s a long-range call. Don’t hold your breath for the rest.
Rusty.
