The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get into it. The next couple of weeks are a mixed bag, but there are definitely a couple of windows that will get the heart rate up. The early days are pretty flat and messy, but it looks like things start to turn around a bit later this week and into the weekend.

Right now, Wednesday morning is looking like a write-off. We've got a tiny 1.3ft northwest windswell at Hossegor - La Centrale, and it’s just not doing anything. The energy is weak, coming in at 15, and it’s just poor surf. The afternoon isn't much better, with a touch more size but still no real push.

Thursday sees the swell start to build a little, but it's still not good. The morning has 3.6ft of northwest swell at 11 seconds, but the wind is cross-onshore and it's all over the place. The energy is moderate though, at 297. The afternoon gets a bit bigger at 4.3ft, but the wind goes cross-shore and it just gets messy. I’d stay on the beach for this one.

Friday is where it gets interesting, but it's still not clean. We’re looking at 5.2ft of northwest swell with a 10-second period. The energy is solid, hitting 517, which is strong. But the wind is still cross-onshore, making it a bit lumpy. It's surfable for the experienced crew, but it's marginal at best. You'll be fighting a bit of chop.

Then we get a proper window on Saturday. The swell drops back to a clean 3.6ft from the northwest, but the wind swings offshore and the morning is cross-off. Conditions look clean, and the energy is still moderate at 211. This is a big improvement. The afternoon stays clean with offshore winds and 3.6ft surf. This is your first proper chance to get some clean ones.

Sunday drops off a bit. We're down to 2.6ft with a shorter 7-second period. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The energy is weak, under 100. The wind is offshore in the morning which keeps it clean, but there’s just not much behind it.

Monday is flat and weak. The swell drops to 2ft, and the energy is almost nothing at 42. It’s glassy, but there’s just nothing to ride. This is a day for the longboard if you’re desperate, but honestly, it's a no-go.

Tuesday is even worse. The swell is tiny and the energy is just 18. It’s a complete flat spell. This is where we hit a bit of a lull for a few days.

Wednesday the 26th has a tiny pulse of 2ft with a 10-second period, but it's not enough to get excited about. The energy is weak. Thursday the 27th sees a spike in size, but it's not good. We get 6.6ft from the west-northwest, but the period is a short 7 seconds, and the wind is onshore. It's going to be a messy, powerful closeout. The energy is strong at 425, but it's not for the faint-hearted. This is expert-only territory, and even then, it's likely to be a washing machine.

Now, looking ahead, there are some promising signs. Friday the 28th looks like a good one. The swell is back to a clean 3.9ft from the northwest with a 10-second period, and the morning wind is cross-offshore. The energy is solid at 273, and it should be clean. This is a standout.

Saturday the 29th is okay, but not perfect. The morning has 3.9ft with glassy conditions, but the afternoon gets a bit messy.

Sunday the 30th has potential again. The morning looks clean with 4.3ft from the west-northwest and cross-offshore winds. The energy is moderate. The afternoon gets a bit cross-onshore, so get on it early.

Monday the 31st is another good window. The morning has 3.6ft of northwest swell with offshore winds and clean conditions. The energy is moderate. A solid option.

Tuesday the 1st of September looks great. The morning is clean with 4.3ft, and the afternoon is glassy. Energy is moderate. This is shaping up to be one of the better days of the period.

Wednesday the 2nd starts off with 4.3ft of glassy conditions and building energy, hitting 439, which is strong. The morning is the pick, but the afternoon gets a little crossed up.

Thursday the 3rd is a bit of a fade. The swell is still there at 3.6ft, but the wind is cross-onshore and it just looks messy.

So, what are the pick of the bunch? The standout is Saturday the 22nd – it’s clean, offshore, and has decent energy. It’s not the biggest, but it’ll be the most fun. The other standout is the morning of Friday the 28th. That looks like the best combination of size and clean conditions. Also keep an eye on the 1st of September – that morning session looks like it could be really good, but it’s a bit further out, so let’s see how it develops. The bigger swells around the 27th are for experts only, and
