The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, taking a look at the extended outlook for Hossegor - La Centrale. Straight off the bat, it’s a quiet start with a few tiny, weak waves. We’re looking at a bit of a flat spell to begin with, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The first real glimmer of hope comes around Saturday, the 22nd of August. We’ve got a small NW swell pushing in at 4ft, but the key here is the wind. Early morning sees a light cross-off breeze from the SSE, setting it up clean. It’s not big, but with the water feeling much warmer than normal for this time of year, it’s a nice window for a longboard or a funboard. The combined energy is weak at 206, so it’s about finesse, not power.
After that, we hit another lull. The surf stays small and ordinary through Sunday, Monday, and into Tuesday the 25th. There’s a little spike in energy on Wednesday the 26th morning – a 3ft WNW swell with glassy conditions and moderate energy (119). It’s surfable but still very average.
Now, the big shift comes at the end of the period. Thursday the 27th of August sees a powerful WNW swell arrive, with heights hitting 8ft and the combined energy jumping to a massive 1238. That’s serious energy. But, and it’s a big but, the wind is howling onshore from the WSW at 22 mph. That makes it a complete mess for surfing. With that kind of size and strong wind at a beach break, this setup looks more interesting for the kite surfers than for paddlers.
Friday the 28th is still chunky and onshore, but by Saturday the 29th of August, the wind finally drops. The morning offers a cleaner 5ft WNW swell with a light cross-off from the ESE and clean conditions. That Saturday morning window is your best bet for a proper session in the second week, with moderate energy (301) and a decent shape.
In short, don’t hold your breath for the next week. The standout is that Saturday the 22nd for a clean, small wave cruise, and if you’re waiting for power, keep your eyes on Saturday the 29th, but know that the long-range stuff is a bit less certain.
Stay stoked.
Rusty.
