The Lowdown
Hey there, it’s Rusty. Surf’s pretty flat for L’Epi Nord right now and it’s gonna stay that way for a while. We’ve got a long gap of weak, messy conditions through most of the 16-day window. The swell’s tiny and the wind’s mostly cross-onshore, leaving the water all choppy and uninviting. The water’s warm—clocking in at 75°F and about 4.1°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so you won’t freeze if you paddle out, but the waves just aren’t cooperating.
Now, the only real standout comes way out on Tuesday, August 18th. That morning brings a bit of a pulse: NW swell at 4.3ft with a longer period of 11 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 461, which is a decent kick for this spot. But here’s the bummer—the wind’s still cross-onshore from the WNW at 6 mph, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. Still, that period will give the waves some shape, and if you’re experienced, you might find a few fun ones. The crowd factor? L’Epi Nord can draw a few, but nothing crazy.
Otherwise, a few mornings like August 11th and 15th offer glassy conditions with clean faces (thanks to calm or light east breezes), but the swell is barely there—under 3ft and short period. Those are “surfable but very ordinary” moments, not worth a special trip. For beginners, most days show swell under 5ft, but the chop and onshore flow make it tricky. And the bigger swells? They never top 4.3ft, so no expert-only territory here.
Bottom line: hold tight. The second week has that one promising morning on the 18th, but the rest is a flat spell. It tends not to stay this poor for long, so keep an eye out. Until then, maybe grab a longboard for the tiny clean windows. Stay stoked.
