Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anglet - Le Club over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim outlook for the first week and a half at Anglet - Le Club. The swell is tiny, the wind is all over the shop, and it’s just not offering anything worth paddling out for. You’re looking at a solid stretch of disappointing surf from Friday, July 10, all the way through to the middle of the following week. The wave energy is weak, often below 100 (just 68 on Friday morning), and the conditions are mostly poor, with light onshore breezes and choppy water. The water temperature is a whopping 76°F, which is 8°F warmer than usual – that’s seriously unusual, you’d think you were in the tropics. But that’s all the good news.
We finally get a bit of a glimmer on Sunday, July 12, when the wind goes glassy early. The swell is still tiny at 2ft from the WNW with a period of 10 seconds, and the energy is weak (65), but it’ll be perfectly clean. The surf report says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” so don’t expect anything special, but it’s the only window in that first week where you wouldn’t be wasting your time. It’s the best on offer, and that’s not saying much.
Then we hit another dry patch until the weekend of July 18. The energy picks up a bit around July 18 morning with a 3ft swell from the WNW and a period of 7 seconds, and the winds go glassy again. The combined energy hits 118, so it’s starting to feel a little more lively, but the period is short, so the waves will be a bit crumbly. Still, that’s the best clean surf you’ll see in the whole outlook.
The end of the month looks a bit more interesting but messy. On July 24, the swell jumps to 6ft from the WNW (period 7 seconds) with 359 energy, and then 7ft on the afternoon with 396 energy. That’s proper moderate energy, but the wind is cross-onshore at 9 to 12 mph, so those waves are going to be choppy and messy. This is more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean paddle session. On July 25, the swell drops to 2ft from the NW (period 10 seconds) but the wind swings ENE at 6 mph, going cross-offshore, which cleans things up nicely. Energy is 168, so it’s moderate. That’s a promising little window for a clean, lined-up wave, but it’s a long way out – so keep an eye on it, but don’t bank on it.
Overall, there’s nothing to get excited about here. The standout is probably the glassy Sunday morning on July 12 or the July 18 glassy morning, but even those are small. The bigger swell at the end of the month is blown out. If you’re desperate, you’ll find something, but it’s not going to be a classic.
Rusty.
