Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get real about this. Honestly, it’s a pretty flat and frustrating run ahead for the next couple of weeks. The only break we’ve got on the cards is Guethary - Les Alcyons/Avalanche (France), and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it—this stretch looks bleak.
We’re starting off with nothing really rideable right now, and it’s gonna be a long gap. From Thursday 2nd July right through to Sunday 12th July, the forecast is just grim. The swell is tiny, mostly under 3ft, and that combined energy is weak—hanging around 38 to 272 (weak to moderate at best). The real killer is that the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore out of the NW or WNW, which is the wrong direction for this spot, and that’s messing up any chance of clean waves. Even on the Saturday 11th July morning, when we see a touch more period (12 seconds) and a bit of energy hitting 239 (moderate), the wind is still onshore, so it’s not gonna be worth paddling out for.
There is a glimmer, I gotta admit. Sunday 12th July morning, we’ve got near-flat glassy conditions with a tiny 2-3ft NW swell at 10 seconds. The wind is glassy—offshore from the NNW at just 3 mph—so it’ll look clean, but honestly, the wave size is barely enough to get a slide. You might get a knee-high or waist-high wave if the period holds, but it’s not a standout, just the least bad option in a sea of nothing.
After that, it drops right back off. From Monday 13th July through to Friday 17th July, we’re back to dribble—1ft to 3ft, short periods, onshore winds, energy numbers mostly below 100 (weak). Absolutely nothing to get excited about. This is a long, quiet stretch for this reef.
For the record, the water temperature is sitting at about 75°F on the first day—that’s much warmer than normal for the time of year, almost 8°F above average, so don’t bother with a thick wetsuit, but you’ll still be dry sitting on the beach.
Given the persistent small, weak, onshore conditions, and that the break is an exposed reef, the setup honestly looks more suited for a drift or a paddle than any proper surfing. If there’s any energy to be had, it’ll be a kite surfer’s playground, not a surfer’s.
Keep your eyes on the charts—forecasts can change, and it’s not often this area stays this poor for so long. But for now, I’d say find a spot to watch the sunset and wait.
Rusty.
