Table - best surf conditions forecast for Guethary - Les Alcyons/Avalanche over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee, let's have a look. It's been a quiet stretch here for Guethary - Les Alcyons/Avalanche, not gonna lie. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are flat. The swell that shows up Monday morning is a weak, short-period 4ft from the northwest with only moderate energy (131), and the wind is glassy but the quality is just ordinary. Not worth paddling out for.
The next few days are a write-off. Tuesday the 14th through to Sunday the 19th July we're looking at tiny, inconsistent swell with weak energy, mostly under 3ft. The wind is often onshore or cross-onshore. The days all come back as "poor surf conditions." It’s a real dead zone for nearly a week.
We get a little spike on Monday 20th July. The swell pushes to 6ft from the northwest, energy ramps up to moderate (305), but the conditions are described as marginal. Tuesday morning on 21st July is where it gets interesting. A solid 8ft groundswell from the west-northwest, long period at 8 seconds, with strong energy (1314). It’s an expert-only call at that size, especially for a reef. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the east, so the face will be holding up nicely. Then Tuesday afternoon gets even bigger at 10ft, period 9 seconds, and glassy wind conditions. That’s a true standout, but only for the experienced crew. The combined swell energy is strong to very strong (1283).
Wednesday 22nd July stays solid at 7ft from the northwest, with clean offshore wind from the southeast in the morning. That’s another really good option for those who can handle it. By the afternoon it drops to 6ft with glassy conditions and very good surf expectations.
After that, Thursday 23rd July sees the energy drop fast to 4ft, and the conditions turn more marginal with cross-onshore wind. The rest of that week and into the weekend looks like back to small, weak surf. The final entry on Monday 27th July shows a glassy 3ft, but still poor conditions.
So, you’ve got a long gap of poor surf until a brief, powerful window. The clear standout is Tuesday 21st July, with that strong 10ft swell, long period, and glassy afternoon conditions. Wednesday morning the 22nd is also a winner. For the rest, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
