Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s break it down. It’s been a quiet, frustrating spell for this part of the coast. Honestly, it’s looking like a solid two-week gap before you see anything half-decent. The first real chance doesn’t come until Sunday July 12th, and even then, it’s a grinder.
From now until about July 11th, just forget it. Swell is tiny, winds are mostly on it or cross, and the wave energy is pathetic – numbers barely cracking 100 in most cases. Water temp is about average, nothing to write home about.
For those who can’t stay out of the water, the morning of Sunday July 12th at Guethary - Les Alcyons/Avalanche is the first time you might get a clean ride. There’s a 0.7m NW groundswell with a clean offshore breeze from the SE. It’s still small, energy at 119, but it’s clean. The period is 10 seconds – decent shape, but nothing special. It’s a consistent expert reef break, and it does get crowded often, so expect company. It’s barely surfable, just very ordinary.
Then it’s back to junk again through that whole week. Monday July 13th and Tuesday July 14th are hopeless with onshore winds and fading swell.
The first true bright spot pops up two weeks out, on the morning of Saturday July 18th. You’ve got a clean cross-off breeze from the ENE and a 0.8m NW swell. Energy is up to 115, but it’s still only "very ordinary" conditions. It’s the best of that early period.
But the real standout – the one to circle on your calendar – is Sunday July 19th. This is two weeks away, so keep your fingers crossed, but if it holds, it’s the morning you want. Glassy conditions, zero wind from the South, and a 0.6m NW groundswell with an 11-second period. The combined energy jumps to 227. That’s moderate energy, and with clean glass, it’ll be the best the spot has looked in the whole forecast. The swell is small, but the quality will be there.
That Sunday afternoon, things go downhill with a rain shower and a bigger 1.7m swell but onshore wind, making it sloppy and only for the experienced. Then Monday July 20th drops back down.
So, if you want my advice, take it easy until that Sunday July 19th dawn patrol. There isn’t much else worth chasing.
