The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Guethary - Parlementia over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, straight up, don't get too excited just yet. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a struggle – there's a massive gap with pretty much nothing going on. The first week is a write-off, and it's not until the morning of the 28th of July that we finally see something worth paddling out for. The surf is flat or blown out for the better part of the first two weeks, so you'll be sitting this one out for a while.
The water at Parlementia is a whopping 77°, which is 7° warmer than usual – that's very unusual, feels like a tropical bath.
Let's break it down. From now until the 27th of July, it's a hard pass. Tuesday the 21st has a 3ft NNW swell but with a rotten NW wind on it, and the energy is weak (105). It's a mess. The wind stays onshore or cross-onshore for days, and the swell is tiny, often around 2ft to 2ft, with periods of 5 to 6 seconds. On Saturday the 25th, the wind cranks up to 18-22 mph from the W, and the swell jumps to 8ft, but the energy is moderate (212 to 669) and it's a lumpy, wind-blown disaster. Not for surfing.
The first real standout, and the only one worth marking on the calendar, is the Tuesday morning of the 28th of July. We get a 5ft groundswell from the NW with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (416). The real magic here is the wind – it's glassy, dead calm, from the NE at 3 mph. That's rare and it'll make the reef at Parlementia (France) absolutely clean. It's a spot for experienced surfers, and it's consistent, exposed to the swell, and with an optimum direction from the W, this NW swell is a good match. Crowds are sometimes a factor here, so expect some company. This is the best on offer.
Following that, the morning of the 29th of July is also a good call. The swell holds at 5ft from the NW (10 seconds, 363 energy), and we get a clean cross-offshore wind from the ENE at 6 mph. Again, a nice setup for the experienced crew.
Beyond that, things get smaller again. The morning of the 30th has a 3ft NNW swell with glassy conditions, but it's ordinary. The 31st and into August, the wind comes back onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell fades to tiny, weak waves. The 5th of August has a glassy morning, but the swell is only 2ft – not enough to get excited about.
So, to sum it up: wait for the morning of the 28th of July. That's the window. The rest is a long blank stretch.
Rusty.
