Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s get real about Anglet - La Barre for the next couple of weeks.
The short story is lean, I won’t lie. Across the whole 16-day window, there’s no standout day that will have you calling in sick. The surf is small and the conditions are messy more often than not. The first real chance to get wet is on Friday morning, July 3rd, but it’s a morning-only gamble.
Friday morning, July 3rd: The water is unusually warm at 74°, coming in at 7° above the norm for this time of year. That’s a big anomaly, and it makes the early paddle bearable. Swell is tiny at 3 ft from the NW, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (193). The real point here is the wind: glassy conditions. That’s a huge plus for a break that’s only fairly exposed. The waves will be clean, but they’re just "surfable" – nothing to write home about. It’s inconsistent here, so expect lulls.
Saturday and Sunday (July 4th & 5th): Forget it. The wind goes cross-onshore, and the swell is stuck between 2 ft and 4 ft. The quality is poor. The one half-decent moment is Sunday morning (July 5th) with 2 ft from the WNW and glassy wind, but the energy is weak (128) and the period is short (10 seconds). It’s not worth the drive.
The rest of the first week (July 6th - 10th): A total write-off. The swell drops to between 1 ft and 2 ft. The wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, or the period is too short (5-6 seconds). The energy is weak (29 to 101). There’s one morning (Monday July 6th) with clean offshore wind from the ENE, but the swell is just 2 ft with weak energy (66). It’s a log-in-the-closeouts kind of day.
Second week (July 11th - 18th): Still no real highlights. The best of the bunch is Saturday morning, July 11th. Clean offshore wind from the E, with a 2 ft NW swell but a very long period of 12 seconds. The energy is moderate (111). That long period will give it some shape, but at this size, it’s a long-period ripple. It’s inconsistent, so it’s a waiting game.
Sunday July 12th and Monday July 13th mornings have glassy conditions with 2 ft and 3 ft of NW swell, respectively. The energy is moderate (125 and 102), but the periods are short (10 and 8 seconds), so it’s not going to be powerful. The waves will be clean but weak.
By Thursday July 16th, we get another glassy morning, but the swell is back to 2 ft from the WNW with a short 9-second period and weak energy (88). It’s a glassy log-in session.
Bottom line: There’s no standout. The best surf is the glassy mornings on Friday July 3rd, Saturday July 11th, and Monday July 13th, but none of them break the 3 ft mark. The crowds are listed as "sometimes" here, and with these tiny clean waves, the locals will be out on the loggers. The swell direction is NW, which is off the optimum (W) for this river/jetty setup, so it’s not wrapping in perfectly. This run is pretty normal for the area when it goes quiet; forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a flat spell.
