Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Anglet - La Barre.
Right off the bat, we gotta be straight with you – the next week and a half is looking real quiet. There’s a big gap of nothing special for days on end. The first real chance to even paddle out without feelin’ like you’re wastin’ your time comes on Sunday the 5th. But even then, it’s small.
We start on Saturday the 4th with a bit of a northwesterly swell pushing just over 4 ft, but the wind is a messy cross-onshore. Combined energy is moderate at 225, but the surf is just poor. Forget it.
Sunday the 5th morning is where we get a tiny glimpse of hope. The swell drops right down to about 2 ft from the NW with an 11-second period, which is a nice long interval for such a small wave. But the big win here is the wind going glassy, dead calm. Offshore from the NE, light airs. Combined energy is weak at 134, so you’re not gettin’ thrashed, but it’ll be clean. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon gets choppy again.
Monday the 6th morning actually gives us clean conditions with a light offshore from the ENE. Swell is still tiny at about 2 ft from the NW, period dropping to 9 seconds. Combined energy is weak at 66. It’s rideable on a log, but you won’t be doing much. The rest of the week through to Friday the 10th is a story of tiny swell, mostly glassy mornings but onshore chop by the afternoon. The water is way warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at about 74°, which is a real treat for a July morning.
Now, there is a pulse of size that shows up. Check Saturday the 11th. Swell jumps to about 4 ft in the morning and nearly 5 ft in the afternoon from the WNW, with combined energy kicking into moderate territory (204 and 304). But here’s the kicker – it’s onshore wind, gusty, with a short 6-7 second period. The wave comment calls it poor. That’s a messy, blown-out wall of whitewater. Not good for paddle surfing unless you’re after a fight. Honestly, with that onshore wind and short-period junk, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Sunday the 12th morning brings the biggest swell of the run: about 6 ft from the WNW, 10-second period, combined energy strong at 576. Wind is a light cross-shore from the north, which could keep it from being a total washout. The model calls it marginal. This is the standout window, but it’s a week and a half out, so keep an eye on it. The afternoon turns to rain showers and cross-onshore chop though.
After that, it’s back to tiny, choppy, or onshore junk right through to the end of the window on the 19th. Tuesday the 14th morning is a curiosity – about 5 ft from the WNW with zero wind, glassy. But it’s an 8-second period, and combined energy is moderate at 265. It might be lumpy, but if you’re desperate for a wave, that glassy morning might deliver a couple of rideable ones.
Honestly, if you want a clean wave, your best bet is the glassy morning of Sunday the 5th for a tiny, clean longboard session, or hold out hope for Sunday the 12th morning when the size comes up. But don’t bet the farm on it yet.
Rusty.
