The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for this stretch of coastline.
To be honest, for the first week and a half or so, it’s a real struggle. The surf is tiny, the energy is weak, and the wind is just not playing ball. We’re looking at a long, dry gap from now until around the 27th of July. A few days will have a bit of bump, but it’s mostly poor, choppy, and onshore. The combined energy is mostly in the double digits (10 to 210), barely tickling the shore. This is a classic summer lull, and it’s not looking good for a paddle.
The real standout, and the only time I’d get excited, is the morning of Monday the 27th of July. The swell fills in a bit, lifting to 4 ft from the NW with a period of 10 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, and the energy jumps to 208 (moderate). The wind is a light NNE breeze, coming cross-off, which will clean things right up. The water is a very warm 77°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. This is the best session on offer. It’s small enough for most and big enough to get a few fun ones. The wave comment says "expect good surf conditions," so I’m calling it. The 29th of July morning also has some potential, with a clean 3 ft from the NW and a light offshore ENE wind, but the period is a bit shorter.
For the rest of the period, it’s a mix of tiny, weak, and messy conditions. The swell is just too small and the wind too often onshore or cross-onshore. There’s no real quality to speak of. It’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
