Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Anglet - La Piscine.
Alright, to be straight up with ya, it’s a pretty quiet start. The good news is the water’s sitting at a balmy 75°F, which is a fair whack warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real bonus if you’re just getting in for a paddle.
First bit of something to look at comes on Friday afternoon (3rd), but honestly, it’s not much to write home about. You’ve got a 4ft swell rolling in from the NW, with a period of 11 seconds, so there’s a bit of energy there (combined energy of 375). The problem is the NW wind at 6 mph is sitting cross-onshore, and it’s making a mess of things. The report says it's poor.
We’ve got a long dry spell of small, messy surf through most of the first week. There’s a little moment on Sunday morning (5th) where the wind goes glass from the NNE at just 3 mph, and the swell drops to 2ft from the NW (period 11s, combined energy 135). It’s tiny, but it’ll be clean. About the only window that’s surfable but very ordinary.
The wait continues. You’re looking at a real flat patch from Monday through the following weekend. Most days have winds onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is under 2ft with combined energy readings dropping below 60 – that’s real weak, barely a ripple.
Finally, things start to look a bit more interesting heading into the second week. On Monday morning (13th), the wind goes glass (calm, 0 mph) and there’s a 2ft swell from the WNW at 9 seconds (combined energy 59). It’s in the “surfable but ordinary” camp. The real standout? That looks like Wednesday morning (15th). It’s a clear day, the wind is a light NNE at 3 mph and it’s glass – that’s the cleanest you’ll see. The swell builds to 2ft from the WNW, period 9 seconds, with moderate energy at 121. That’s the pick of the forecast right there for a little longboard session or a fun fish.
Later on, Saturday morning (18th) sees a pulse of 4ft swell from the NW with a period of 9 seconds and combined energy climbing to 313. The wind is onshore from the W at 9 mph though, so it’ll be bumpy. That’s a bigger day, but the quality will be off unless the wind plays ball.
To be honest, for the next couple of weeks, it’s mostly a case of waiting for those rare glassy windows. The highlight is definitely that Wednesday morning (15th) – small, clean, and at Anglet - La Piscine, that’s as good as it’s likely to get in this run.
