Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ at Anglet - La Piscine.
Honestly, mate, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a tricky stretch. We’ve got a long wait ahead. The first surf I’d even think about is a little window on the morning of Thursday, 10th July, but it’s barely a ripple. That morning you’ll find tiny 2ft waves from the NW, but with glassy conditions, you might get a few crumbly little ones on the longboard. The water here is sitting at a very unusual 74°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
After that, it’s a grim run. There’s nothing really worth paddling out for on the Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We get a bit more energy on the Monday morning, 21st July, with 4ft swell from the NW, but the wind is blowing onshore from the WNW at 9 mph, ruining any shape. The combined energy climbs to 287 (moderate), but it’s all wind-affected and messy. That’s going to be a lot of whitewater, no real walls to work with.
The only true standout in this whole 16-day stretch is the morning of Sunday, 20th July. You get 4ft of NW swell with a period of 8 seconds and a glassy offshore wind from the NE at 3 mph. The combined energy shows 164 (moderate). For La Piscine, that’s as good as it gets in this forecast. Clean, lined-up waves, likely a bit fuller on the sets. That’s the morning to be in the water.
But you gotta be sharp. This break is exposed to the swell, so it pulls in whatever’s out there, but it’s also *fairly consistent* and crowds are *sometimes* a factor, so you won’t be alone if the sun’s out.
The rest of the second week is mostly small, windy, or onshore. Nothing else worth blocking out your calendar for. It’s one of those flat spells where you just wait for the next proper swell.
Rusty.
