The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Anglet - La Piscine. The water’s a toasty 74°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year—pretty unusual.
We’ve got a slow start. The first proper surf doesn’t show up until Saturday the 5th of September. Before that, it’s flat or junk.
Saturday the 5th morning is the first real option—glassy, clean, with a 3ft NW swell. The combined wave energy is moderate (226) and the 9-second period gives it a bit of push. Not big, but clean.
Sunday the 6th is the clear winner. Morning is glassy again, swell kicks up to 5ft from the NW with a 12-second period—that’s a proper groundswell. The combined energy is strong (603). For a point break, that long period will wrap in nicely. Conditions are “expect very good surf conditions.” This is the morning to wake up early for.
After Sunday, it gets messy. The next decent window is Sunday the 13th of September morning. Clean cross-off wind, 5ft NW swell, 8-second period, energy at 318. A morning mission.
Monday the 14th morning is another glass-off—calm wind, 4ft NW swell, 323 energy. Perfect for a longboard session.
Tuesday the 15th morning also looks clean, glassy, with a 5ft NW swell (283 energy). Solid for the experienced crew if you get it early.
After that, it fades out into small, choppy stuff.
Bottom line: Sunday the 6th morning is your standout—biggest swell, clean, good period. Monday the 14th morning is a close second for a relaxed, glassy session.
Rusty.
