Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the menu for Anglet - La Piscine over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a flat spell to sit through. The first few days are offering small, weak lumps, but the conditions are a mixed bag. Thursday morning (6th August) sees a small 3 ft NW swell, but it’s a cross-off breeze, and the water is sitting at a very warm 76°, which is a whopping 5° above normal for this time of year. The combined energy is only 126 (moderate), and the period is a short 8 seconds, so it’s not going to have much push. The afternoon is a write-off with a cross-on wind messing it up.

Friday morning (7th August) is where we get our first real glimmer. The swell drops to 2 ft from the NW, but the wind goes glassy. That’s the magic word here. The wave energy is minimal (56), but those clean, glassy conditions will make the most of what little there is. It’s a surfable, small-wave morning for the patient ones. The crowd factor is “sometimes” here, so you might have a few mates out, but nothing crazy.

Saturday (8th) and Sunday (9th) are a write-off for the most part. Saturday is tiny with poor cross-on drivel. Sunday morning is glassy again with a 2 ft NW swell, but the period jumps to 10 seconds, giving it a bit more shape. The energy is 77 (weak), but it’ll be clean. The afternoon gets ruined by a 12 mph onshore wind.

The rest of the first week and into the second is a rough patch. Monday (10th) through to Wednesday (12th) are all small, messy, and mostly cross-on or onshore. There are a few glassy mornings, like Tuesday (11th) and Wednesday (12th) mornings, with swells of 2 ft to 2 ft, but the energy is pitiful (45 to 71). You’ll be scratching for anything.

The end of the second week shows a bit of a pulse. On Tuesday, 18th August, we see the swell build to 4 ft from the NW with a period of 9 seconds, pushing the combined energy up to 170 (moderate). However, the morning has a cross-shore wind, and the afternoon is cross-on, so it’s not going to be clean. It’s a bigger, more powerful day, but the wind is a letdown. The break is exposed to the W, and this is a NW swell, so it’s not hitting the optimum direction.

The standout for the entire 16-day window? Honestly, it’s a tough call. There’s nothing that screams “epic.” The best bet is Friday morning, 7th August. It’s not big, but the glassy conditions with that 2 ft NW swell will be the cleanest, most user-friendly session of the whole outlook. If you’re a beginner, that 2 ft is perfect. For the experts, you’ll have to wait for Tuesday, 18th August, when the 4 ft swell arrives, but be prepared for the wind to be a problem.

Overall, it’s a lean period. The swell is small, the wind is often onshore, and the energy sits in the weak to moderate range. Keep your expectations low and your eyes on the glassy mornings.
