The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s break down what’s coming for the waves at Anglet - La Piscine.
The start of this forecast is a bit of a slow one. The first couple of days are flat and messy, with hardly anything to ride. The water is sitting at 77°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, about 5°F above average. That’s a real bonus if you’re not keen on a thick wetsuit.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Thursday morning, August 20th. We’ve got a clean 4ft NW groundswell with a solid 11-second period, and with glassy conditions from a light SW wind, it’s going to be clean. The combined energy reading is 304, which is a solid moderate pulse. It’s not huge, but it’ll be fun and well-shaped. The afternoon gets a bit bumpy with a cross-onshore breeze, so make the most of the early session.
The next few days are a mixed bag. Friday the 21st sees a bump in size to 5ft, but the wind is iffy and the conditions are marginal. Saturday morning the 22nd is worth a look though, with a light ESE breeze keeping the 4ft NW swell clean and offering a decent window before the afternoon fills in.
The most interesting part of the outlook is the very end of the run. On Tuesday morning, September 1st, we’re looking at a standout. The morning starts small, but by Tuesday afternoon the swell jumps to 5ft from the NW with a long 11-second period, and the combined energy hits 595 – that’s a strong pulse. The wind goes glassy from the north, and the conditions are labelled as very good. This is the one to circle on the calendar. It’s over a week away, so keep an eye on the charts, but if it holds, that afternoon session will be the pick of the whole forecast.
Overall, there’s a bit of a lull mid-period, but the last couple of days offer some real quality. Don’t sleep on the 1st of September.
Rusty.
