The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break it down for you in feet and degrees.
The next two weeks at Anglet - La Piscine are looking lean. From Wednesday afternoon all the way through to Tuesday, the 29th of July, there’s almost nothing worth getting wetsuited for. The waves are consistently tiny, chopped up by a cross-onshore breeze most of the time. Even when it goes glassy, like on Saturday morning the 18th, the swell is barely 1ft with no power.
The only real highlight comes on the morning of Wednesday the 29th of July. We get a glassy morning with a light offshore breeze from the east-northeast. Wave heights might push to 2ft from the NW, with a short 6-second period. The combined swell energy reads 60, which is still weak. The water is a very warm 77°F, which is more than 7°F above normal for this time of year—that’s unusual. The break is exposed to the west-northwest, and it’s clean, but it’s not going to be anything more than a small logger wave.
After that, the 30th of July has a clean offshore wind with a 10-second period swell from the NW, but it’s only 1ft. The period suggests better shape, but there’s no height.
This spot is usually fairly consistent, so this stretch of flat, sloppy surf is a bit of a bummer. Forecasts can shift, but for now, your only real window is that Wednesday morning (29th July). It’ll be clean but small.
Rusty.
