The Lowdown
Alright, let's be honest, the next couple of days are a total flat-out mess. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are all small, choppy, and blown out. The wind is onshore, the energy is weak, and it's just not worth the hassle. You'd be better off polishing your board than paddling out into that.
But hang in there, because Thursday morning the 17th is where things start to wake up. The wind goes glassy, and we get a solid 1.7m of NW groundswell with an 11-second period. The energy kicks right up to 663, which is a big change from the days before. Anglet - La Piscine is the spot, and with the glassy conditions, it's going to be clean. That's the first real good window, though it's a bit much for beginners.
The real standout, though, is Friday morning the 19th. This is the one. The swell jumps to 2.1m from the northwest with a longer 13-second period, and the energy reading is massive at 1514. This is a powerful, proper swell. With a light offshore wind, this is going to be a serious session. This is expert territory, though, as it's well over 2m. The afternoon wind messes it up a bit, so the morning is the time to be out.
There are a couple more clean windows after that. Sunday morning the 20th is glassy with 1.4m, and Monday morning the 21st is also clean at 1.6m. Tuesday morning the 22nd is another glassy one at 1.3m. These are all fun, clean days with the NW swell, and the period is still in that 11-12 second range, giving the waves some push. Expect crowds at La Piscine on these days, as it'll be the place to be.
Then, the energy just falls away. From Wednesday the 23rd onwards, the swell drops off quickly. We're down to small, weak waves through the 24th, 25th, and 26th. There's a tiny glassy bump on the 25th morning, but it's marginal. The last few days of the period are basically flat, with the swell bottoming out. It's a real fade-out.
So, the plan is clear: wait for Friday the 19th. That's the standout. The glassy mornings on the 17th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd are also solid options if you want a cleaner, slightly smaller wave. But Friday is the one with the power. Just be aware, that's a day for the experienced crew only.
The water is sitting at 23°, which is notably warmer than average for this time of year. It’s a good couple of degrees up, so you might get away with a springy.
That's the long and short of it. Nothing for the next few days, a cracking Friday next week, and then a taper back to nothing. Keep your eyes on the forecast, and be ready to move when it's on.
