The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Grab a coffee and let’s see what’s shaking for Anglet - La Piscine.

The next couple of weeks have a few real gems, but you’ve got to pick your moments. The first few days are a bit of a washout, but the middle of next week is where it’s at.

The first real chance to get wet is on Saturday morning, September 5th. It’s not massive, with a clean 3ft NW swell coming from the west, and a light offshore breeze from the ENE keeping things smooth. The water is a warm 74°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year—so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home. The combined swell energy is a moderate 229, so there’s enough push to get you moving. This is the best bet of the first week.

The weekend gets a bit ragged after that. By Sunday the 6th, the wind turns onshore and the swell gets messy. Monday and Tuesday are pretty average with cross-onshore chop.

But Wednesday morning, September 9th, is a beauty. Dead calm, glassy conditions, with a clean 3ft NW swell running on a solid 12-second period. The combined energy is 455, a nice moderate pulse. This is the kind of morning where you’ll be sharing the peak with just a few mates. Crowds are *sometimes* a thing here, but mid-week with that glassy surface? It’ll be worth it.

Thursday morning, September 10th, is another cracker. Same story: 4ft from the NW, a light N breeze, glassy, and a moderate energy of 332. Two back-to-back mornings of clean, lined-up waves. That’s your best run of the outlook.

The following week drops right off. From the 11th to the 15th, it’s mostly small, weak, and onshore. The energy is way down, and we’re looking at ankle-biters. There’s a gap of about four days with nothing worth paddling for.

Then, Wednesday morning, September 17th, shows a little life. A clean 3ft NW swell with an 11-second period, and an offshore breeze from the ESE. The energy is back up to 218. It’s not big, but it’s clean. The following Saturday afternoon, the 19th, also has a bit of promise with a cross-off breeze and a 4ft NW swell.

So, if you’re planning your sessions, Saturday the 5th morning, Wednesday the 9th morning, and Thursday the 10th morning are the standouts. The long-range stuff on the 17th and 19th is worth watching, but it’s a bit far out to be sure.

Rusty.
