The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's cooking for the next couple of weeks at Anglet - La Piscine. It's a bit of a slow start, but there's some serious firepower building for the weekend after next.
We kick off this Friday, the 11th, but honestly, it's a write-off. Tiny little 2-3 ft NW windswell with a weak energy reading (83) and cross-onshore winds. Not worth getting wet for. Saturday the 12th isn't much better. The morning has glassy conditions on a tiny 2-3 ft swell, so you might find a knee-high ripple if you're desperate, but the energy is flat (72). The afternoon gets chopped up again.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Sunday the 13th. We get a jump in size to a clean 4-5 ft, and the period stretches out to a nice long 13 seconds, giving it some proper groundswell punch (545 combined energy). The morning is glassy—absolutely perfect for a point break or reef, though La Piscine is a beach break, so that long period might make it a bit straight. Still, it's the best thing on offer for the first week. Monday the 14th keeps it clean with light offshore winds in the morning on a similar 4-5 ft NW swell.
We hit a bit of a flat and windy spell Tuesday and Wednesday, with onshore winds and weaker energy. Thursday the 17th has a promising morning with a 6 ft NW groundswell (743 energy) and glassy conditions—that’s a legit good session if you can get out before the wind turns. Friday the 18th is another glassy morning, but the swell drops to 3-4 ft.
Now, hold onto your board. Saturday the 19th is a standout. The morning brings a solid 6 ft NW swell with a very long 13-second period, pumping out a whopping 1037 combined energy. The wind is light offshore from the east, so it'll be clean as a whistle. That's a session for experienced surfers looking for some power. The afternoon stays clean but the wind picks up. Sunday the 20th through Monday the 22nd has consistent 3-4 ft waves with clean conditions, but nothing huge.
The next big one is building. Thursday the 24th morning looks great with a glassy 5 ft NW groundswell (635 energy). But the real bomb is Friday the 25th afternoon. We're talking a 7-8 ft NW swell with a 14-second period and a monstrous 2085 combined energy. That is a serious, powerful groundswell. Winds are light cross-off, so it'll be clean but it's only for experts at that size. Saturday the 26th cleans up with glassy 5-6 ft waves to round out the period.
So, the two standouts? Sunday morning the 13th for the first clean, glassy taste of real groundswell, and Saturday morning the 19th for the bigger, more powerful session with light offshore winds. The water temp is running at 73°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year—a real bonus.
Rusty.
