The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Anglet - La Piscine.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a rough start. The next few days are a write-off with some choppy, rain-swept conditions. The swell is there, but it’s messy, with a combined energy that’s moderate at best (724). You’re better off staying on the beach for now.
The first real window of hope arrives on Saturday morning, August 22nd. A clean, 4ft NW swell with a 9-second period, and the wind is offshore from the east – that’s the good stuff. The combined energy settles down to a modest 241, and it’s going to be clean. This is your best bet for the week. Get in the water early because the afternoon sees a shift in the wind, and it’s not as good.
Sunday morning, the 23rd, will be tiny, around 2ft, and too weak to get excited about. The energy is just 62. It’s clean, but it’s a paddler’s day, not a surfer’s.
There’s a big gap from Sunday afternoon all the way through to the end of the month. The swell drops right out, the wind is onshore, or it’s just too weak. We’re looking at a solid 5-6 days of flat conditions.
Now, looking ahead to the end of the month, there’s a big pulse of energy coming through. Friday afternoon, August 28th, the swell will be pushing 10ft from the WNW with a 11-second period. The combined energy is cranking at 1873 – that’s strong. But here’s the catch: that’s way too big for this break. It’s going to be a washing machine, and unless you’re an expert, don’t even think about it. The wind is also cross-onshore, so it’ll be sloppy. This one is a skip.
The real standout for the long-range is Saturday morning, September 5th. The forecast is showing a nice 3ft NW swell with a 9-second period, and the wind is offshore from the east. Combined energy is a solid 238, and it should be clean. This is a promising, cleaner option for the start of September. Keep an eye on it, but it’s still a way off.
The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so nothing to write home about. Just your usual summer suit.
So, to wrap it up: Saturday morning, August 22nd is the best on offer. Clean, small, but surfable. The early September window holds promise, but it’s a long way off. Don’t bother with the big stuff on the 28th.
Stay stoked.
Rusty.
