The Lowdown
Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
The next 16 days are a slow cooker for Rodiles - Main Beach. We’ve got a bit of a waiting game ahead, with small, mostly ordinary surf for the first week, but there’s a real standout waiting for the brave at the very end. The first few days are pretty flat, so don’t rush.
Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th August – Honestly, not much happening. Tiny waves, with swell heights barely scraping 3 ft. The energy is weak (34 to 201), and the period is short, so don’t expect any push. Thursday afternoon sees a bit of a lift to 4 ft, but it’s still just *ordinary*.
Friday 21st August – This is the first real flicker of life. The morning brings in 4 ft of NW swell, period 10 seconds, and a light cross-off breeze from the WSW. The energy jumps to moderate (579), and the conditions are clean. It’s a decent window, but the afternoon gets a bit messy with cross-shore winds.
Saturday 22nd to Monday 24th August – A bit of a lull again. Swell drops back under 3 ft, winds turn onshore or cross-on, and the energy is weak. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 72°, but that’s about the only interesting thing.
Tuesday 25th August – A quiet little afternoon pulse. Swell is only 3 ft, but the wind goes glassy from the NE. It’s clean, but don’t expect much push.
Wednesday 26th August morning – A solid jump. Swell hits 5 ft from the NW, period 9 seconds, and the cross-off wind keeps it clean. Energy is moderate (339). This is a good, honest session.
Thursday 27th August – A bit of a mixed bag. Swell builds to 6 ft, but the conditions are only marginal due to tide or wind. The morning cross-off is clean, but the afternoon turns cross-shore. Still, if you’re keen, there’s power.
Friday 28th August morning – This is the next standout. 4 ft from the NNW, period 10 seconds, and glassy conditions from the SE. The energy is good (347), and the waves will be clean. Get in early.
Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th August – Small again, with glassy or clean conditions, but nothing to write home about. Swell sits around 3 ft to 4 ft.
Monday 31st August – The big one. This is the standout of the whole outlook. The morning brings 8 ft of NW swell, period 10 seconds, and a clean cross-off wind from the west. The energy is massive (1494). This is expert territory – too big for beginners. The afternoon gets a bit cross-shore, but the morning is gold. If you’re experienced, this is your session.
Tuesday 1st to Wednesday 2nd September – Swell backs off to 4 ft, but conditions stay clean. Wednesday morning is glassy from the WSW. Good, solid, everyday surf.
Thursday 3rd September – The run fades. Swell drops to 4 ft, period 8 seconds, and the wind turns cross-shore. The end of the run.
Overall, the best on offer is Monday 31st August morning – big NW swell, clean wind, massive energy. For the everyday surfer, Friday 21st August morning and Friday 28th August morning are your best bets for clean, fun waves.
Rusty.
