Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rodiles - Main Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Rodiles - Main Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s a tough start. The first week and a half is a real quiet stretch. From Wednesday the 8th through to Friday the 17th, we’ve got nothing really worth paddling out for. Swell is tiny, mostly under 3 feet, and the energy is weak, with the combined energy sitting in the low double digits and barely cracking 70 most days. Winds are a mix of light cross-onshore or onshore, and the wave comments tell the same story: poor conditions. There are a couple of glassy moments on the morning of Thursday the 9th and a clean session on Sunday morning the 12th, but the swell just isn’t there to back it up. You’d be chasing ripples, not waves. This is a long gap of about ten days with no real recommendations, so don’t bother until the following weekend.
Now, things finally start waking up on Saturday the 18th. That Saturday morning is the standout of the whole forecast. We’re looking at a solid 6-foot swell out of the NW, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 335 – that’s a moderate, punchy feeling in the water. More importantly, it’s glassy. That means clean, smooth faces, and that’s gold for a break like Rodiles. This is an intermediate sort of wave on that day; 6 feet is pushing it for beginners, but for anyone with a bit of experience, it’s going to be fun. The wind is nothing, just a slight air, so the surface will be tidy. Crowds are “often” here, so expect company, but with that clean NW swell, it’ll be worth sharing the lineup. The water temperature is sitting at 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick rubber at home.
Sunday the 19th holds on. We’ve got a 5-foot swell from the NNW, period of 8 seconds, and combined energy of 281. Still a decent push. The morning brings a cross-offshore wind from the west, so the waves will have that clean, face-friendly look again. Not quite the glass of Saturday, but very good. Another solid option for the weekend.
Monday the 20th is a little messier. The swell is around 5 to 7 feet from the NNW, and the energy is strong, hitting 545 in the afternoon, but the wind is ramping up to 16 mph. It’s cross-off, so it won’t be a total washout, but the wave comment flags it as marginal. This is more for the experienced crew if the tide lines up – over 7 feet is getting into expert territory, especially with that bump on the surface.
Tuesday the 21st is interesting. That morning session has a 5-foot swell from the north, 9-second period, and combined energy of 710 – that’s a lot of push. The wind is a decent cross-off from the west, and the comment says “expect very good surf conditions.” This could be the hidden gem of the second week, though we’re a bit further out, so less certain. Still, it’s worth marking in the calendar.
After that, Wednesday the 22nd has a drop back to 4 feet with glassy conditions in the morning, but the energy drops to 197, so it’s more of a fun-sized clean-up session. And then we’re back to small stuff until the end of the period.
So, to sum it up: sit tight for the first ten days. Your best bet is Saturday morning, July 18th – that’s the one with the glassy 6-foot NW swell and proper energy. Sunday the 19th morning is a close second. Tuesday the 21st morning has potential if you’re feeling lucky with the long-range call.
Stay keen, and don’t let the flat spell get you down. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
