The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Rodiles - Main Beach over the next couple of weeks.
The short term is a bit of a flat spell, I'm not gonna lie. We've got a few days of tiny, gutless waves with not enough energy to get you excited. The first real chance of a surf comes around Thursday the 27th in the morning, but even then it’s marginal. The swell is a weak 4ft from the NW with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is only 246 – that's barely a pulse. The wind is a clean cross-off from the SSW, so the conditions will be tidy, but the waves themselves are just ordinary. Not worth getting out of bed for unless you're desperate for a paddle.
Friday the 28th is where things start to get interesting. The swell builds through the day. The morning sees 7ft from the WNW with a solid 11-second period, pushing the combined energy up to 870 – that's a proper moderate push. The wind is cross-off from the WSW, keeping it clean. This is a good step up. By the afternoon, it gets even bigger, hitting 8ft from the NW and the energy jumps to a hefty 1405. That's a lot of power. At 8ft, this is expert territory, so only the experienced crew should be looking at this. The wind swings a bit more onshore from the WNW, so it won't be perfect, but there will be some proper waves.
Saturday the 29th is the proper standout. The morning session is the one to score. We've got clear skies, a 6ft NW swell, and a 10-second period, with the combined energy sitting at 593. The real magic is the wind: glassy, dead calm, from the SSE. That means Rodiles will be absolutely clean. The swell is a touch over 5ft, so it's a bit much for the beginners, but for the intermediates and above, this is the best of the forecast. The afternoon gets a bit onshore, so make the most of the early. Crowds are often a problem here, so get in early.
After that, the surf fades back into the ordinary for a long stretch. There's a bit of weak, short-period stuff through the end of August and into early September, but nothing worth writing home about. We're looking at combined energy numbers mostly under 300, with small, messy waves and onshore winds.
Then, out of nowhere, on Monday the 7th of September, the forecast throws a wildcard. The morning session shows a 10ft NW swell, with a 9-second period and a combined energy of 1135. That's a serious amount of water. The wind is glassy from the SE. This is a big, powerful swell. At 10ft, this is strictly for experts only. The period is a bit short for that size, so it could be a bit lumpy and unpredictable, but the power is undeniable. The afternoon sees it drop to 7ft but the wind goes cross-shore, so the morning is the window. It's a long way out, so keep an eye on it, but it has the potential to be the best day of the whole outlook.
So, to sum it up: the standout is Saturday the 29th for the clean, glassy conditions on a solid, rideable swell. The wildcard is the big pulse on the 7th of September. The rest is mostly flat or just average.
That's the call. Stay stoked.
Rusty.
