The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up for Rodiles – Main Beach.
Honestly, the first week or so is pretty flat and quiet. We’re looking at a long dry spell from now, right through the middle of July, with hardly a wave worth paddling for. The water’s sitting at about 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it’ll feel nice if you’re just floating around.
It’s not until Monday the 20th of July that we finally see a pulse of life. That morning brings a 3ft swell from the NE with a period of 7 seconds and combined energy of (149). Winds are glassy – that’s a major positive, meaning clean conditions. But the swell’s small and the period is short, so it’s really only just surfable, nothing to get excited about. The Tuesday after that, the 21st, shows a bit more size, 4ft from the N with 8-second period and energy jumping to (267), but the wind turns onshore that afternoon, so the window is tight.
The real standout – and the one to circle on your calendar – is Sunday the 26th of July. That morning we’ve got a 4ft swell rolling in from the NNW with a long period of 13 seconds, packing some serious energy (494) and glassy conditions. This is proper groundswell, so it’ll have shape and push, but given it’s a beach setup, that long period can make it a bit straight. Still, for clean waves and decent power, this is the best on offer. The afternoon bumps up to 6ft (energy 1211) but gets a cross-onshore breeze, so stick to the early session.
Monday the 27th morning also looks promising – 5ft from the NW at 11 seconds, glassy again, with energy at (537). That’s a solid session for intermediates. The 28th and 29th both have clean, glassy mornings with 4ft to 5ft swells from the NNW and NW, with periods around 9-10 seconds. Consistent, clean, and surfable – not epic, but more than enough to get your fix.
Overall, the best of the run is that Sunday 26th morning. If you can wait it out, it’ll be worth it. Crowds are likely here, especially when it’s good, so get in early.
Stay frothy.
Rusty.
