Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rodiles - Main Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, this is Rusty, and I've been staring at the charts for our spot, Rodiles – Main Beach.
First up, the overall picture. It's a bit of a tough stretch. For the next two weeks, Mother Nature is playing hard to get. We’ve got a long gap with nothing worthwhile on the cards right from the get-go. The first solid surf I can see won't show up until Monday the 27th of July, and even that is only a marginal prospect. So gear up for a solid couple of weeks of flat or junk conditions.
Right now, the water temp sits at about 68°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year.
Let me walk you through it. From Monday the 13th right through to Sunday the 26th of July, it's a write-off. Swells are tiny, under 3ft, and coming mostly from the north with a short, weak period between 4 and 8 seconds. The energy numbers are bleak – often dropping below 40 (weak wave energy). On top of that, the wind is generally cross-on or onshore from the ENE and NE. That’s a nasty combo for Rodiles, creating mostly poor surf conditions and light, bumpy ripples. There are a couple of glassy moments on Sunday the 19th and Sunday the 26th, but with only 0.7ft and 0.3ft of swell respectively, you'd be waiting a long time for a knee-high ripple. Even on Monday the 20th, the swell bumps up to 5ft, but it's accompanied by a moderate cross-onshore breeze and a combined energy of 176 (moderate), so it'll be a choppy mess.
Now, we finally get something to talk about. On Monday the 27th of July, things start to shift. We see a pulse of NW groundswell coming in at about 4ft with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy jumps up to 292 (moderate). The wind in the morning is light and cross-shore, so it might clean up a bit, but the model still calls it marginal, likely due to tide. It’s a flicker of hope, not a full green light.
But the standout, the one I've got my eye on, is Tuesday the 28th of July. The morning session looks promising. We’ve got a solid 5ft of NW swell, a period of 9 seconds, and a clean cross-offshore breeze from the NW with just a slight air. The combined energy is cranking at 389 (moderate). This is the best on offer over the whole period. The wind will make it clean, and that NW direction is right in the sweet spot for Rodiles. It’s a proper logger wave for the intermediates out there. Be aware that this swell is getting a bit meaty at 6ft in the afternoon, which could get tricky and the wind swings onshore by then, so get out there early on the 28th.
It has been a long flat spell, but that Tuesday the 28th morning makes it all worth waiting for. The forecasts can always change for the better in that second week, so don't give up hope entirely. Until then, it’s time to get the gear ready.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
