The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's coming up for Rodiles - Main Beach. It's a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, so let's get into it.
The pattern starts off slow with some very ordinary conditions, but we've got a few real standout windows coming up, especially if you're an experienced surfer. There's a notable gap in the middle of the forecast where the swell disappears, so plan around that.
The water temp is about average for this time of year.
We kick off on Thursday, the 20th of August, with a modest 3 ft swell from the NW at 8 seconds. The wind is light and cross-off, so it's clean, but the wave energy is pretty weak (213). It's surfable, but nothing to write home about. That afternoon, the swell bumps up to 4 ft from the NNW, with a longer 9-second period. The energy picks up a bit (283) and conditions are clean with a light cross-off breeze. It's a decent start.
Friday the 21st looks better. The morning brings a clean 5 ft swell from the NNW at 10 seconds with moderate energy (485) and a good cross-off wind. That's a solid session. The afternoon turns poor as the wind swings cross-on and the energy drops.
Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are write-offs with poor conditions, choppy surf, and weak energy. The wind is onshore or cross-on, so don't bother.
Monday the 24th has a small, clean morning with a 3 ft NNE swell, but the energy is very weak (68). It's surfable but ordinary. The afternoon goes poor again.
Then we hit a big gap. From Tuesday the 25th of August through to Wednesday morning the 26th, the swell drops right off. We're looking at tiny waves, some with very long periods (13 seconds) but barely any energy (26 or less). The board stays in the car.
Things wake up in a big way on Wednesday afternoon, the 26th of August. That's a standout for experienced surfers. An 8 ft NW swell rolls in with a short 7-second period, but the energy is very strong (704). The wind goes glassy, and the conditions are described as very good. This is a proper pulse, but at 8 ft it's getting into expert-only territory, especially with a short period. It'll be a powerful, churning wave.
Thursday the 27th morning stays clean with a 7 ft WNW swell, 8-second period, and strong energy (576). The wind is offshore, so it should be good, but again, it's a big, powerful swell for experienced surfers only. The afternoon gets messy with cross-shore wind.
Friday the 28th morning is a good, clean option with a 5 ft NW swell at a longer 10-second period and moderate energy (488). A light cross-off breeze keeps it tidy. The afternoon goes poor.
Saturday the 29th morning is another clean one with a 5 ft NW swell at 8 seconds and moderate energy (401). A light cross-off wind makes it workable. The afternoon gets a little cross-chop.
Sunday the 30th of August is a real gem. The morning is glassy with a 4 ft NW swell at 9 seconds and moderate energy (346). The afternoon is also glassy, with a 5 ft NW swell, though the period drops to 7 seconds. Both sessions are clean and good.
Monday the 31st morning is glassy with a 4 ft NW swell and 8-second period, good energy (274). The afternoon gets a bit marginal with some onshore wind. Tuesday the 1st of September morning is glassy again with a 5 ft NW swell at 9 seconds and good energy (317). The pattern of clean mornings continues into Wednesday the 2nd of September, with a glassy 5 ft NW swell, though the energy is moderate (343).
Friday the 4th of September wraps it up with a clean morning, glassy conditions, and a 5 ft NW swell at a long 10-second period and strong energy (577). That's a fine way to finish the run.
In summary, the standout windows are the Wednesday afternoon the 26th of August for experts, and the glassy mornings from Sunday the 30th of August through to Friday the 4th of September, which offer clean, fun waves for intermediate surfers. The long gap in the middle means you'll have a few days off.
Rusty.
