The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at Rodiles - Main Beach. It’s a bit of a slow start, but there’s a real window coming that’s worth getting excited about.
We’re looking at a pretty quiet run for the next few days. Monday and Tuesday are a write-off – tiny 1 to 2 ft lumps from the north and northwest with onshore breezes making a mess of things. Nothing doing. Wednesday and the early part of Thursday stay small and weak. The swell energy is barely registering. You’re not missing anything.
Then things start to shift. Thursday afternoon, the 20th of August, we get a pulse of longer-period groundswell from the north hitting 3 ft, with a 11-second period and glassy conditions. The energy jumps to 499 (moderate), and the place cleans right up. That’s the first real taste of something rideable, and it’s a good one. The swell direction is N, which is close to the optimum NW for the spot.
Friday morning, the 21st, keeps that glassy feel with 4 ft from the NW, period around 10 seconds, and solid energy (435). That combo of clean glass and a little size makes this the standout of the whole forecast. The water temp? About average for this time of year – nothing weird going on there, just a normal summer feel.
The weekend after that drops back into the small and messy category. Saturday and Sunday are mostly cross-on breezes and dropping swell. Not worth the paddle.
We get a little bump on Tuesday the 25th with a glassy morning showing 5 ft from the NNW, but the period is short at 7 seconds, so it’ll be lumpy and weak (188 energy). It’s surfable but nothing special.
The real reward comes at the very end of the run. Sunday the 30th of August, morning session has a clean 5 ft from the northwest, 9-second period, with offshore cross-off winds. Energy sits at 353 – that’s a proper, punchy wave. Monday the 31st keeps that clean cross-off flow with 4 ft to 3 ft from the northwest and NNW. Consistent, clean, and with some decent push.
So here’s the call: if you’re chasing the cleanest conditions, lock in Friday morning the 21st – glass, NW swell, chest-high waves, and no wind to mess it up. That’s the day. After that, Sunday the 30th morning is your backup – a little bigger but still clean and lined up.
Rusty.
