Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rodiles - Main Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the surf along this stretch of coast. Honestly, it’s been a quiet run, but there’s a little something worth looking forward to if you’re patient.
The main spot we’ve got eyes on is Rodiles - Main Beach. For the next couple of weeks, most of the swell is small and the conditions are a bit meh. There are no real standouts for the first several days, so it’s best to wait for a proper window.
Right now and through the coming days, we’ve got a lot of knee-to-waist high waves, mostly around 1ft to 2ft, coming from the NW. The combined swell energy is weak, running between 26 and 87, so not much push. Winds are light but often cross-shore or cross-onshore, keeping things bumpy. Thursday morning (July 9th) is the one early bright spot – glassy conditions with 2ft NW swell. That’ll be clean but tiny, so it’s a longboard or funboard session for those who really need a paddle.
We hit a gap from around July 10th through July 16th where there’s barely any surfable energy. Swell drops to 0.7ft–2ft, wind stays light but messy, and the guidance keeps flagging poor surf. Not worth the wetsuit. Sunday afternoon July 12th bumps up to 4ft NW with a combined energy of 138, but the period is only 5 seconds and winds are cross-shore. That’s weak, choppy, and straight – more of a kite surf setup than a proper surf.
Then, on Friday July 17th morning, we get a pulse: 5ft NW swell at 7 seconds, combined energy hitting 212. It’s still a bit punchy and short-period, and the wind is light cross-onshore. Not clean, but the energy is there for a punchy, fat beachie. Afternoon stays 4ft with onshore wind. Not the best but a lot more power than we’ve seen.
The real standout, and the one to mark on your calendar, lands Wednesday July 22nd morning. Rodiles - Main Beach gets glassy, light WNW winds, and a clean 4ft NW swell with a period of 8 seconds. Combined energy jumps to 275 – that’s moderate, solid energy. This is the best setup in the whole forecast: clean conditions, waist-to-chest high, and the swell direction matches the optimum NW. This is your session. The afternoon picks up a cross-breeze, but the morning window is sweet.
Thursday morning July 23rd looks even bigger at 6ft NW, period 8 seconds, glassy. Combined energy is 445 – strong wave energy. That’s solid, powerful beach break surf. Over 5ft, so not for beginners; it’ll be a proper challenge. But for experienced surfers, that’s a morning to wake up early for.
Crowds at Rodiles can be often, so on that standout morning expect company. But with clean glass and solid swell, it’ll be worth sharing the peak.
Water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual to report.
So in short: wait through the small stuff, hit Wednesday July 22nd morning for the best combo of clean and solid, and Thursday July 23rd morning if you’ve got the skills for a bigger, punchier wave.
Rusty.
