The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
Right now, we're in a bit of a flat spell. The first few days are looking pretty ordinary with small, weak waves and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds. It's a slow start, but don't write the whole window off just yet.
Things start to wake up around Thursday, 20 August. Thursday morning, Rodiles (a river break) will see a clean 4 ft swell from the NNW with a period of 11 seconds. The wind is glassy, which is a major positive. The water temperature is sitting at 72°, a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Friday, 21 August, keeps the momentum going. The morning session looks clean with a 4 ft swell from the north, a period of 10 seconds, and a light cross-offshore breeze from the WNW. The combined swell energy is moderate (455), so there's some decent push behind it.
Saturday, 22 August, and Sunday, 23 August, see a drop in quality with onshore winds and smaller, weaker swell. The surfable window narrows here.
Now, keep your eyes on the long-range forecast. The real standout looks like Saturday, 29 August. The early morning is calling for a hefty 10 ft groundswell from the NW with a period of 13 seconds, combined with glassy conditions. The energy reading is massive (4221), and the forecast is for excellent surf conditions. This is solid, powerful swell, and it's definitely for experienced surfers only. The direction is a perfect match for Rodiles' optimum swell direction. This is the one to circle on the calendar.
Sunday, 30 August, and Monday, 31 August, still have some size, with 6 ft to 6 ft from the NW, but the conditions look more mixed and less clean than the Saturday peak.
Into the first week of September, Tuesday, 01 September, morning offers a clean 5 ft northwest swell (629 combined energy) with a light cross-offshore breeze, so still some fun waves to be had.
The long-range stuff is always a bit less certain, but the potential for a very good day on the 29th is there. Keep an eye on the forecasts.
Rusty, out.
