Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rodiles over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a real good look at what’s shaping up for Rodiles. I gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag, and we’ve got a long, quiet patch to get through before anything worth getting excited about rolls in. Hang tight, though, because there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
For the first ten days or so, things are looking pretty flat and sloppy. The swell is small, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-shore, and the conditions are just plain poor. We’re talking ankle to knee-high dribble with no real energy. You’ll see a few mornings with glassy conditions, like on Saturday the 11th and Wednesday the 15th, but the swell is tiny – only 2ft to 0.7ft. That’s a lake, not the ocean. Even the water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 68°F, which is nice for a dip, but not for surfing. This break is a river mouth, and with the combined energy of all swells barely cracking 88 (weak energy), it’s really just not on. Expect a solid 10-day gap here with zero recommendations.
Now, the standout. The real flicker of hope comes on Thursday, the 23rd of July, in the afternoon. That’s over a week away, so keep your expectations in check, but the models are hinting at something. The swell jumps up to 5ft from the NW, and the period stretches out to a very long 15 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell. The combined energy of all swells directed here hits 961 (strong wave energy), which is a massive number. The wind is a light cross-onshore, which isn’t perfect, but it’s light enough that it shouldn’t ruin it. This spot is a river mouth, so a long-period NW swell like that has the potential to set up some good, lined-up waves. The catch? It’s labelled as a marginal forecast, so don’t book the day off work just yet. But if you’re an expert – and this is an expert-only wave – this is the one to watch.
Then, on Friday the 24th of July, the morning cleans up nicely. The wind goes cross-offshore, light, with the swell dropping to 3ft from the NNW, still with a decent 11-second period. The combined energy is 315 (moderate wave energy) and the forecast says expect good surf conditions. This is your second-best bet in the whole window. After that, the swell fades off again.
So, the bottom line: you’ve got a long, flat spell ahead, so don’t bother waxing up until late next week. Thursday the 23rd afternoon is the big one to keep an eye on, and Friday the 24th morning is your backup. Stay patient.
Rusty.
