The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the 16-day outlook for Rodiles.
Right off the bat, it’s a slow start. The first week is a write-off – tiny, weak, and just not worth paddling out for. You’ll be waiting a good five or six days before anything even remotely surfable shows up. The real action is in the second week, and it looks like it might just be worth the wait.
The standout session is shaping up for Sunday, July 26th, in the morning. That’s your best bet. We’ve got a solid new swell arriving from the NNW, pushing in at about 4ft. The period is 13 seconds, a proper groundswell that’ll wrap into the river mouth nicely. The energy is strong, sitting at 494 (moderate wave energy), and it’s glassy. No wind, clean as a whistle. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, a nice 69°F.
The next best is Monday, July 27th, again in the morning. Another good one. The swell is up a bit more to around 5ft from the NW, with a long 11-second period and a combined energy of 537 (moderate wave energy). It’s glassy again, clean lines. This one is a bit bigger, so it’s more for the experienced crew; beginners might find it a handful.
Through the rest of that week, we see a few more mornings worth a look. Tuesday, July 28th has 4ft from the NNW, glassy, with energy at 315 (moderate wave energy). Wednesday, July 29th is similar, 4ft from the NW, glassy, energy at 332 (moderate wave energy). These are solid, clean options, but the Sunday and Monday stand out as the best on offer.
A word of caution: Rodiles is a river mouth, and it’s for experts. It’s fairly consistent, but with those longer-period swells, the sets can be a bit more spaced out, and the rip can pull hard. The crowds are often here, so expect company for the good ones.
For the first week, there’s just nothing to get excited about. The morning of the 20th has a tiny 3ft wave, but it’s ordinary. Don’t waste your time. The quiet spell is real, but the second week looks promising.
Rusty.
