Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rodiles over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about Rodiles. This is a river-mouth set-up, and it’s one for the experienced crew only—steep banks, shifting channels, and it takes a certain eye to read. The whole 16-day run looks pretty flat and quiet, so you’re going to need a whole lot of patience.
For the first couple of weeks, there’s basically nothing doing. We’re talking day after day of tiny swells, mostly under 2 ft, with poor surf conditions. The combined energy is low—barely cracking 100 in the best moments, and most days sitting in the teens or twenties. You’ll see a bit of energy pop on the morning of Sunday, July 12th (115), but the swell is only 2 ft from the NNW with a period of 9 seconds. It’s glassy that morning, so it’ll look pretty, but size just isn’t there. A few days later, on Wednesday, July 22nd afternoon, the energy jumps to 159 with a 5 ft NW swell at 6 seconds—short period, pretty jumbled. It’s glassy, though, so if you’re desperate and you’re an expert, you could scratch into a few. But that’s the only window in the whole outlook that even gets close.
Water temperature sits at 69°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year—a nice little bonus if you’re paddling out in the small stuff.
Honestly, this is a long, dry spell. For most of the 16 days, you’re looking at flat or near-flat conditions. The setup would actually be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing right now, with the light breezes and tiny wind ripples. Crowds at Rodiles are often a factor when it’s good, but with this outlook, you’ll have the place pretty much to yourself.
If you’re holding out, the only real standout—and I use that term loosely—is the afternoon of Wednesday, July 22nd. A 5 ft NW swell, glassy, but with a short 6-second period. It’s surfable, but ordinary. For experts only.
Rusty.
