Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rodiles over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – this is a rough one for Rodiles. We’ve got a 16-day window in front of us, and frankly, there’s not a single standout session in the lot. The first few days are a write-off, and the pattern just doesn’t build into anything worth paddling out for.
Let’s start with the big picture. This whole stretch is dominated by tiny, weak swell and mostly average to poor conditions. The water temperature is sitting at 67°, which is about 2° warmer than normal for this time of year – a bit of a mild anomaly, but it won’t help the waves.
The first real surfable suggestion doesn’t even pop up until Sunday the 12th, and it’s nothing to write home about. That morning, we’ve got a 3ft swell from the NE, but with a period of only 5 seconds – that’s junky, short-period windswell. The combined energy is a weak 86 (moderate energy). The wind is WNW at 9 mph, which is a cross-offshore breeze, so it’ll be clean, but the waves are tiny and weak. It’s a “surfable but very ordinary” call. Not a recommendation.
After that, it’s a long, bleak stretch. From the 13th through to the 19th of July, we’re looking at a solid week of nothing. Swell heights barely crack 2ft, periods are short, and the combined energy readings are mostly in the 20s and 30s – that’s weak energy. The wind is all over the shop, but mostly cross-on or onshore, so it’s not even clean. You’d be wasting your time.
The only glimmer comes on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. Monday morning sees a 3ft, 6-second swell from the north, with glassy conditions and a NE breeze at 3 mph. The combined energy hits 77 (still weak). It’s clean, but the swell is tiny and short. Tuesday morning pushes up to 4ft from the north, with a 6-second period and combined energy of 133 (moderate). But the wind is onshore from the ENE at 6 mph, making it messy. The afternoon gets a bit bigger at 4ft, but again onshore. These are the biggest swells of the whole period, but the conditions are poor, and the scoring is a flat zero for every session. For a river-mouth break like Rodiles, a north swell is okay, but it’s not the optimum NW direction, and the short period means it’ll be dumpy.
The following days, from the 23rd to the 26th, drop right back off. We’re back to 3ft and smaller, with weak energy and mostly cross-off winds that keep it clean, but the swell is gone. The last day, Sunday the 26th, has a glassy 0.7ft with a 8-second period – that’s a lake, not surf.
Honestly, there’s nothing here to get excited about. No standouts. If you’re desperate, the 20th and 21st have the most size, but it’s poor quality and onshore. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a rare blank run. Forecasts can change, but right now, leave the board at home.
Rusty.
