Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rodiles over the next 16 days.
Right, folks, let’s have a proper look at what’s headed our way. This is a bit of a slow-burner, I’m not gonna lie. The next week and a half is pretty grim. We’ve got a real dry spell on the cards until we get towards the third week of the month. It’s going to be a tough watch for the next several days, with nothing but small, weak swell and poor conditions. The wait is on.
Alright, so the first real chance of anything worthwhile comes much later. The first sign of life is on Saturday, July 18th. Rodiles starts to show a pulse. The morning has a clean look with a light cross-offshore breeze from the WNW. Swell is a modest 4 ft from the NNW, but the energy is starting to build (120). Don’t get too excited though, it’s still pretty ordinary stuff. The wind is kind to us, setting up a clean face, but the waves are small and the period is short.
The best chance of the whole forecast comes on Sunday, July 19th. Rodiles is the spot to watch. The morning session is the pick of the litter. We’ve got a clean, glassy morning with a light cross-offshore wind from the WNW. The swell pushes up to 4 ft from the NNW, and the energy is climbing nicely (232). It’s a river mouth, so it handles the longer period groundswell well, but don’t expect perfection. The wave energy is moderate, and the conditions are clean, but it’s not a world-beater. It’s the best we’ve got, and it’s a solid window for a paddle. The water is about average for the time of year, nothing to report there.
Monday the 20th still has a bit of life in the morning with a similar clean cross-off setup, but the swell drops back to 3 ft (159 energy). It’s surfable, but it’s fading. After that, it’s back to the doldrums for the rest of the week with onshore winds and small, chopped-up waves.
The long-range look is not promising. We get a slight whisper of something on Saturday, July 25th. The morning looks clean again with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell is tiny at 2 ft from the NW. It’s a long period groundswell (11 seconds), so it’ll have a bit of push, but the energy is weak (124). It’s a very ordinary option, and it’s a long way off, so treat it as a hopeful maybe.
So, to sum it up: for the next week and a half, find something else to do. The only real window is the morning of Sunday, July 19th at Rodiles. It’s not epic, but it’s the only clean, surfable option on the board. Get in early.
Rusty.
