The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Rodiles.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next ten days or so are pretty grim. We're looking at a proper dry spell. From Wednesday the 15th all the way through to Sunday the 19th, it's just tiny, wind-affected slop. We're talking waves barely bumping up to 2 ft, with short, weak periods around 5 to 6 seconds. The combined energy is pathetic, barely breaking 20 to 30 (weak energy). The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, messing up what little shape there is. It's a tough stretch, and honestly, I wouldn't waste the gas.
Now, there's a glimmer of hope on Monday the 20th. The morning session is looking like the standout of the whole forecast. The swell bumps up to a clean 6 ft from the NNE, with a combined energy of 473 (moderate wave energy). The wind is forecast to be glassy – dead calm – which is a massive positive for getting clean, smooth faces. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 69°, so it's pleasant enough. The catch? This is Rodiles, an expert river mouth that's fairly consistent. It's often crowded, so expect company. Also, the swell direction is NNE, whereas the optimum here is from the NW, so it's a bit off-angle. Still, that morning glass-off is your best bet by a long shot. The afternoon gets ruined by a strong onshore breeze, so it's a short window.
After that, it's back to mediocrity. Tuesday the 21st has a bit more size, with 4 ft to 5 ft from the NE, but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore and choppy, so it's not really worth paddling out for. The week of the 22nd to the 28th is a mixed bag of small, weak swells, with energy levels mostly under 100. You'll get a few clean-looking mornings with cross-offshore winds, like Friday the 24th and the weekend of the 26th, but the swell is tiny and weak. The pulse on the morning of Sunday the 26th is the most interesting of that week, with a 4 ft swell from the N and clean conditions, but at 7 seconds it's a short-period windswell, not a proper groundswell.
Looking further out, the last few days of the month into the 30th show a drop-off to tiny, low-energy leftovers. Don't pin your hopes on it.
The only real standout is that Monday morning, the 20th of July. Get on it if you can, but remember it's a quick, expert-only window.
Rusty.
