Table - best surf conditions forecast for El Mongol over the next 16 days.
Right then, let's have a look at what's on the table for the El Mongol region.
To be straight with you, the next week and a half is pretty flat. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak swell that's just not going to get you excited. From now until around the 19th of July, the waves are small and the energy is low – we're talking combined swell energy values as low as 9 to 128, which is barely a ripple. Sure, there are a few glassy mornings on the 14th and the 16th, but with swell heights barely hitting 2 ft, it's more of a paddle than a surf. You could go for a float on a longboard, but don't expect much.
Then, things start to change. On the 20th of July, Monday afternoon, it starts to look interesting. The swell pushes up to 6 ft from the NNW with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps right up to 492. The wind swings around to a light cross-off from the NE, keeping the surface clean. That's the first real standout of the forecast. It's not perfect, but after a week of nothing, it’ll feel like a gift.
But the real standout, the one you want to circle on the calendar, is the morning of Saturday the 25th of July. That’s the big one. We’ve got a 8 ft swell rolling in from the NW with a long period of 12 seconds. The combined swell energy is a massive 1522 – that's serious power. Now, that's a solid size, definitely expert territory and too big for beginners. The wind is onshore from the WNW, which is a bit of a bummer for perfect shape, but for a reef break like El Mongol that handles a bit of juice, it’s going to be a wild ride. The morning of the 25th is your best bet by far if you've got the skill.
In a nutshell, it’s a long wait of quiet, flat conditions, a modest little pulse on the 20th afternoon to wet your whistle, and then a proper, heavy swell on the 25th morning if you’re brave enough to tackle it.
