The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.

So, straight up – it’s gonna be a lean stretch. We’re looking at a long gap with pretty much nothing on offer. The first real bit of surf worth even a glance doesn’t show up until way down the line. It’s going to be a quiet one for the most part, so stash the board for a bit and maybe check the tide pools.

The first glimmer of anything happens on the morning of August 19th. Le Racou might see a tiny 0.7ft easterly swell with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is basically nothing at 5. That’s ankle-high slop at best. The wind is clean off the land from the WNW, which is a positive, but the swell is too weak and short to get excited about.

The only other small pulse shows up on the afternoon of August 28th. A 1ft northerly swell with a 4-second period pushes in, but it’s coming straight onshore from the ESE at 9 mph. The combined energy is still just 5. That’s choppy, bumpy, and not worth the paddle.

The water temperature at the start of the period is sitting at 78°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Nice for a swim, but not for surfing.

Honestly, the whole 16-day window is a write-off for decent waves. The setup is a beach and reef, but with this kind of energy and wind, it’d be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer if you’re really desperate for a fix. But for the rest of us, it’s a solid blank run. That’s how it goes sometimes in this area – we get these long flat spells. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the wax at home.

Rusty.
