The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the stretch at Port Blanc.

Honestly, I’m looking at this 16-day run and it’s a tough one. The first week is a write-off. We’ve got days of tiny, weak swell and either howling onshore winds or cross-off breezes that just can’t dress up what’s on offer. The water is running at 72°F and that’s a solid 7°F warmer than usual for this time of year, which is wild – you’ll be in a spring suit, maybe even boardshorts, but the ocean is flat as a pancake.

The first real glimmer comes on Tuesday, July 28th. The morning session is the only thing worth paddling out for in the whole forecast. It’s glassy, dead calm, and clean. The swell is still tiny at 2ft from the west, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is weak (67), so you’re not getting any power, but it’s rideable. The wind is 3 mph, glassy, and you’ll have the place to yourself. It’s a micro-session, but it’s clean.

After that, it’s back to the doldrums. Wednesday the 29th has a brief offshore window in the morning but the swell drops to 1ft – not enough to hold your interest. The rest of the week into early August is a parade of onshore winds, tiny swell, and poor surf conditions. There’s a moment on Sunday, August 2nd, with a glassy morning (1ft, 9 seconds, 25 energy), but it’s still just barely surfable.

The only standout – and I mean the *only* one – is that Tuesday July 28th morning. It’s not a barrel, it’s not a bomb, but it’s clean, glassy, and you’ll have the peak to yourself. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window. Otherwise, leave the board in the car.

Rusty.
