Maguelone Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. It’s gonna be a flat spell for a while. We’ve got a long stretch ahead with barely a ripple, so don’t be in a rush to wax up. The good news is, it won’t last forever. There’s a hint of life on the horizon, but we’re going to have to be patient.

Looking at the whole picture, this is a quiet period. The first week is basically a total write-off. From now through the 14th, there’s nothing doing. Day after day of tiny, weak swells with poor energy – we’re talking single-digit energy readings here, like 1, 2, 3 (1-3). It’s dead. The winds are all over the place, but the ocean is just flat. You’d be better off finding a new hobby for the next week.

We do see a slight pulse of energy on the 10th, with a swell of 2ft from the south and a period of 5 seconds. The energy reading jumps to 27, which is still weak, but it’s the biggest blip in an otherwise empty screen. Still, with a period that short, it’s going to be mush. Not worth the paddle.

There’s another small bump around the 15th and the 17th, with some 2ft and 2ft swells (energy 15 and 14, respectively), but again, the period is only 4-5 seconds. It’s just not enough to do anything remotely fun. The mornings have some clean, offshore conditions, but with no swell to push, it’s just a flat, pretty ocean.

So here’s the deal. The only spot we’ve got info on is Maguelone. It’s an inconsistent spot, fair enough, but when it’s on, it’s on. But right now, it’s not on. If you’re a beginner, don’t worry about missing out. There’s no swell over 5ft in the whole window, so you aren't missing any waves, let alone a wave over your head. It's just flat out there.

As we get into the back half of the month, things get a little more interesting but still not enough to get excited about. The 18th morning has a shot of glassy conditions, but with a 0.3ft swell, it's just a mirror. On the 19th and 20th, the wind is forecast to blow fresh from the WNW at 19 mph. That’s strong wind and completely flat surf – that’s not surf conditions, that’s more like a kiteboarding forecast. If you’re into that, maybe. For the rest of us, it’s a no-go.

So, plain and simple: there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. The ocean is just not cooperating. With a spot like Maguelone being inconsistent, a blank run like this isn't totally out of the ordinary. But forecasts change, and it never stays this poor for long. Keep an eye on it. For now, I’d keep the boards in the car and maybe pick up a book.
