The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you — Ile Ste Marguerite is looking like a ghost town for surf over the next 16 days. From the start, it’s a long, flat run with barely a blip on the radar.
The first record kicks off Thursday the 6th of August, and it’s all poor surf conditions with zero wave energy. That sets the tone. The water temperature is a warm 83°, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year, but doesn’t help the waves.
On Friday the 7th of August, there’s a tiny 0.7ft SSW swell, but it’s got a short period of 4 seconds, and combined energy is just 4 — basically nothing. The morning is glassy, so it’s flat calm, but there’s no wave to ride. The next several days — Saturday the 8th through Friday the 14th — are all zero energy, clean and glassy at times, but totally flat. That’s a full week of nothing.
Saturday the 15th of August brings a 0.7ft WSW swell, with a pathetic 3-second period and energy of 1. The break is Ile Ste Marguerite, a beach and reef setup that rarely breaks, and it’s living up to that. The wind is light offshore from the NNE in the morning, so the surface is clean, but the swell is just too small and weak to bother with.
The rest of the window is more of the same: a 0.3ft SW on Sunday the 16th, a tiny 0.7ft SSW on Wednesday the 19th, but all with energy under 2. There’s no standout period, no proper swell, and the only break on offer is inconsistent. If you’re looking to get out, this is more of a kiteboarding window when the wind picks up, but for surfing, it’s a long stretch of flat water. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, this is a rough one.
Rusty.
