The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window for Les Douaniers is a tough one to call. The forecast shows a real flat spell with very little to get excited about.
The water is a scorching 83°F, which is a massive 9°F above the norm for this time of year – that’s unusual, feels more like a bath than the ocean.
The immediate outlook is pretty grim. We’ve got a few tiny pulses of swell, but nothing that’s going to make a proper wave. The combined wave energy is weak, sitting at a measly 64 on Friday afternoon, with a 3ft SSW swell and a short 6-second period, plus a cross-on wind making it choppy and poor. Conditions stay like this through the weekend. Saturday morning sees a 2ft SSW swell and a clean offshore wind, but the energy is only 36 – it’s just not enough. The whole first week is a write-off; we’re looking at waves below 2ft and days with absolutely zero surf.
There’s a long, dry gap from the 24th of August right through to the 4th of September. The 5th of September shows a 1ft glassy morning, but that’s about it.
The only real standout – and I use that term loosely – is the morning of Friday, the 4th of September. We might see a 2ft SSW swell with a 5-second period, and the wind is looking glassy. The combined energy is a weak 23, so it’s not powerful, but it’s the best we’ll see. For a reef break, you need a bit more push, and this is small. The direction is from the south, which is the optimum for this spot, but with such a weak pulse, it’s going to be a low-energy, highly inconsistent session. Crowds are possible here, but with this lack of swell, I doubt anyone will be out.
Honestly, this spot is inconsistent, and this forecast proves it. A blank run like this is pretty normal for the area. We just have to wait for a better system to show up. There’s not much else to say.
Rusty.
