The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the outlook for Bandol - Les Nervis.
Right, I’ll be honest with you—this forecast is mostly a tough watch for the next week and a half. There’s a whole lot of nothing happening, with tiny dribbles of weak swell and mostly light winds, but nothing with any power. The long-range kicks things into a different gear around the 21st of September, and that’s where the real interest lies.
For the first surfable recommendation, we’re looking at the morning of the 22nd of September. Heading into that Monday the 21st, the swell jumps dramatically. The combined energy shoots up to 1163, which is very strong, with a solid 10ft swell from the WNW. However, that’s judged as too big for this particular break, so we have to wait until Tuesday the 22nd. That Tuesday morning is the standout. You’re looking at a strong 8ft swell from the WNW with a moderate period of 8 seconds and a combined energy reading of 1274. The wind is light, coming from the NNW, which is a cross-offshore breeze, so it’ll be clean. That’s a proper, powerful swell for experienced surfers only – it’s solid and will be pushing hard.
In the afternoon, the swell drops back to a still-chunky 6ft from the west at 8 seconds, with the energy down to 350. The wind swings WSW at 6 mph, still cross-offshore, so the surf will remain clean and rideable, but it won't have the same punch as the morning.
Now, about the water. At Bandol - Les Nervis, the water temperature is 77°F with a whopping anomaly of 7°F warmer than normal. That’s very unusual—the water is much warmer than you’d expect for the time of year, which is a nice bonus.
But don’t get your hopes up for the surrounding days. Everything from the 10th of September right through to the 20th is poor. Tiny waves, onshore or cross-onshore winds, or just flat conditions. There’s a massive gap with zero surf to recommend until that Monday the 21st. Be patient.
The 22nd is the one to aim for. Big power, clean lines, but only for the crew who can handle it. The following days fade back into mush and weak energy.
Take it easy.
