The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight up: the next couple of weeks around Bandol look pretty bleak for a proper surf. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny or non-existent swell, and honestly, it’s going to be a real test of patience. There is one morning that stands out, but don’t expect any magic.
The whole 16-day window is dominated by flat spells. From now until the morning of Tuesday the 10th, it’s mostly flat or just ankle-biters with no real energy. The water is sitting at a very warm 76°, which is nearly 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s pretty unusual, feels more like a bath than the Med.
The only window worth talking about is Thursday morning, the 10th of September. Bandol – Les Nervis will see a pulse of 6 ft swell from the WNW. It’s not huge, but the combined energy hits a solid 508 (moderate wave energy) and it comes with a 7-second period, so it’s a bit short-period. Winds are light cross-offshore from the NNE at 6 mph, keeping conditions clean. That’s the standout, but don’t get too excited – it’s only the morning window that works, because by the afternoon the wind swings onshore and the swell drops away. This break is inconsistent and can be a bit fickle, so catching that Thursday morning session is the only real play in the whole outlook.
After that, it’s back to small, weak surf or flatness all the way through to the 21st. There’s a lot of offshore wind in the second week, especially from the 17th onward, but with no swell to speak of, it’s just clean but empty water. For the most part, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, especially when the wind is howling from the NW.
Bottom line: Thursday the 10th morning is your one shot. Don’t sleep on it.
