The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here, checking in for the local stretch.

Well, I’m staring at the charts for the next couple of weeks and it’s grim. Truth be told, there’s nothing on the table that’s worth paddling out for. The whole 16-day window is a flat spell with weak, jumbled energy and poor conditions. We’ve got a few specks of swell here and there, but nothing that’s going to get you out of bed.

The first week is a write-off. From Friday the 21st right through to the end of the month, we’re looking at tiny, wind-affected waves. The combined energy is laughably low, often in the single digits (20) or even zero. The wind is all over the shop – onshore, cross-onshore, and occasionally offshore, but even when it’s clean, there’s simply no swell to work with. The water temp is sitting at 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only highlight.

There’s a big gap of nothing until early September. The first sniff of anything resembling a wave comes on Tuesday the 1st of September. The morning shows a 3 ft swell from the SW with a period of 6 seconds, and light offshore winds from the NW. That’s clean, but the energy is still weak (47). The swell is short-period and too small to get excited about. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell drops a touch.

Beyond that, it’s back to tiny or flat conditions. The 5th of September shows a small 3 ft W swell with a 6-second period, and a gentle cross-offshore breeze, but again, it’s not enough to make a wave.

Overall, there’s nothing to recommend here. This is a blank run for the area. For the few consistent breaks around, it’s a waiting game. Forecasts can change, but right now, you’re better off leaving the boards in the shed.

Rusty.
