The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I've got to be straight with you about Bandol – Les Nervis. The outlook over the next sixteen days is a tough one to write. This spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and this stretch is looking particularly flat and messy. The water temp is sitting around 75°, which is pretty much normal for the time of year, so that's about the only thing that's not a letdown.
We start off with a blank run. From the 23rd of August right through to the end of the month, there's virtually nothing happening. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly cross-onshore, and the wave energy is a joke – you're looking at single-digit readings most days. The best you'll see is a glassy moment on the morning of the 28th with a 3ft swell from the WSW, but the energy is still weak (74) and the "poor surf conditions" tag says it all. It's a long stretch of flatness.
The first real chance, and I mean the only true standout, arrives on the 1st of September. Tuesday afternoon brings a glassy sea state with a 6ft swell from the west-northwest, period 6 seconds. The energy jumps up to a moderate 263, and while the comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," for this spot in this outlook, that's as good as it gets. That 6ft is a bit much for beginners, but for the rest of us, it's the only window with any size and clean conditions. The wind goes glassy, so it'll be clean.
After that, the offshore winds kick in hard from the 2nd of September, but the swell drops right off a cliff. We get a morning on the 3rd with a 3ft swell from the WNW and moderate offshore winds, but the energy is back down to 56. The 6th of September shows a 2ft SSW swell with strong offshore winds, but the energy is a weak 13. Honestly, the setups on those days with strong offshore winds and tiny swell would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The rest of the stretch into the 7th is just tiny, clean, and flat.
So, the only real standout is the afternoon of the 1st of September. Expect a bit of a crowd, as it's the only show in town. For everything else, you're better off waiting for the next weather system to roll through.
Rusty.
