The Lowdown
Righto, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Bandol’s got cooking for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty quiet for the most part. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no nasty surprises there.
We kick off with a long, dry spell. From Tuesday the 18th right through to the end of August, there’s barely a whisper of proper surf. We see a tiny pulse on the afternoon of Tuesday the 18th, with a clean 5ft from the west (period 7 seconds) and a light cross-offshore wind, giving us a combined energy of 309. It’s surfable, but it’s not a standout. The real story is the gap – days and days of nothing. The local break, Bandol - Les Nervis (a beach and reef setup), is inconsistent at the best of times, so a blank run like this isn’t totally out of the blue.
Now, fast forward a whole week. Friday the 28th of August finally gives us something to look at. The morning session sees a clean 5ft swell from the WNW with a 6-second period, pushed by a gentle offshore breeze. The combined energy hits 285, which is a decent kick. It’s not huge, but for an inconsistent spot that rarely fires, this is the pick of the fortnight. The swell direction is pretty much on the money for what this place likes (SSW optimum, but WNW is close enough to work), and the wind will keep it clean. Just be aware it’s still a beginner-friendly size, and crowds are possible here sometimes, so don’t expect a lonely peak.
That’s about it. After that little burst on the 28th morning, it fades right back to flat again. The rest of the run into early September is a write-off. If you’re desperate, the Friday morning is the one to aim for, but keep your expectations in check. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a long wait for a very small window.
Rusty.
