The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the Bandol stretch.

Honestly, mate, this is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for any proper surf. There’s just nothing doing. We’re looking at a solid run of flat, weak, or tiny windswell that won’t get a surfer out of bed. The first glimmer of anything that even registers on the energy scale doesn’t show up until the morning of Friday the 7th of August, but even then it’s only 2ft from the west, with a combined energy of just 9 – weak stuff. And that’s as good as it gets.

Let’s break it down. From now through the first week of August, it’s a dead loss. The mornings of the 29th of July and the 30th of July are glassy or clean, sure, but there’s literally no swell. On the 1st of August, we get a tiny 1.0ft from the southwest with a period of 4 seconds – that’s just wind chop. The water is running a touch warmer than normal at 75°, which is nice for a swim, but not for surfing.

The only period that looks remotely surfable is around the 7th of August. On the morning of Friday the 7th, we see a clean 2ft from the west with a 4-second period and a combined energy of 9. The wind is light and variable, so it’ll be clean. But 2ft with a 4-second period is just a dribble, and it’s inconsistent. By the afternoon, the wind swings onshore out of the south, and it gets choppy.

There’s a tiny pulse again on the 10th of August: a 3ft west swell with a 6-second period, and the energy jumps to 50. That’s still weak. The wind is howling offshore from the northwest at 19 mph, so it’ll be clean, but the waves will be small and weak. The following days show similar dribbles.

If you’re a kite surfer, the setup on the 10th of August with a 25 mph cross-offshore wind and a little bump might be worth a laugh, but for a paddle surfer, there’s nothing here. Not a single standout. The best bet is the morning of the 7th of August, and only if you’re desperate for a float.

Rusty.
