The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here again.
Look, I’ve got to be honest with you – the next 16 days are about as appealing as a flat day in the middle of winter. We’ve got no serious surf on the table at all. Not one proper wave. The first day, Wednesday the 16th, has a tiny pulse, but it’s seriously underwhelming. The water’s 22°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, which is nice, but that’s the only highlight.
Wednesday morning at Bandol – Les Nervis is a flat, grovelly 0.1m on a 4-second period. There’s a light W/NW cross-off wind making it clean, but the energy reading is 1, which means it’s completely weak. Wednesday afternoon pushes up to a massive 0.9m from the WSW, but it’s still only a 6-second period. It’s clean, but it’s just a barely-ankle-high slosh.
Then we hit a dead zone. From Thursday the 17th all the way through to Tuesday the 22nd, the swell completely flat-lines. We’re talking zero surf, with some light offshore winds on Thursday and Friday making it look pretty out there, but there’s nothing to ride. It’s a long, drawn-out period of nothing.
The second week isn’t any better. There’s a small ESE change on the 23rd bringing 0.9m, but it’s onshore and messy, so that just chops up a flat ocean. After that it’s a smorgasbord of tiny, weak swell lines that barely register on the energy scale. There’s a bit of S swell on the 29th and 30th, but it’s under a metre and the periods are short, so it’s messy.
This is a proper blank run. It’s not just a quiet patch, it’s a full-on drought. I’m not seeing a standout day in the whole picture. Keep the wetsuit on the hanger and save your energy – you’ll need it for the next proper swell.
Rusty out.
