Then, as we roll into September, things start to look a little more interesting. The standout window comes on Wednesday 2nd September, when a proper pulse of WNW swell rolls in. The combined energy of all swells directed here hits 394, and by the afternoon it jumps to 711 – that’s solid, moderate to strong energy. Swell heights climb from 7ft up to 8ft, with a period of 6 to 7 seconds. That’s a short period, so it’ll be a bit crumbly, but the wind is fresh offshore from the NW, keeping things clean. The water temperature is 81°F, which is a whopping 7°F warmer than the long-term average – that’s very unusual, so expect a warm bath out there. For a break like Bandol – a beach and reef setup – these conditions are definitely worth a paddle. The swell direction (WNW) is a good match for the optimum SSW, so it’ll wrap in nicely. So, in short: don’t waste your time until the first week of September. Then, mark your calendar for Wednesday 2nd and especially Thursday 3rd September. That’s your best shot at something worth driving for.
