The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about Bandol – Les Nervis. That’s your spot on the French coast, and it’s a beach-and-reef setup. The outlook for the next 16 days is a real struggle, I gotta be honest. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with hardly any swell to speak of. The first whisper of something surfable doesn’t show up until Wednesday the 29th of July, and even then it’s barely a whisper.
For the first week and a half, from Thursday the 16th right through to Tuesday the 28th, it’s flat. We’re talking tiny knee-high slop at best, with heights hanging around 0.7 ft to 2 ft and periods so short, 4 to 6 seconds, that the waves haven’t got enough energy to push a beach ball. The combined swell energy is pitiful, mostly in the single digits (10, 6, 2) and hardly ever cracking 50. Don’t get me started on the wind – it’s a mess of cross-onshore and onshore slop, or just flat calm. There’s nothing to paddle for. Honestly, if you’re itching for a session, you’d be better off on a kite with that wind, because the paddle surf is non-existent.
Now, hang in there. The first real chance comes on Wednesday morning, July 29th. A weak pulse of SSE swell pushes in at 3 ft, with a 7-second period. The combined energy finally climbs to 95, which is still weak but at least it’s a pulse. The wind is offshore from the NW at 6 mph, keeping it clean. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The water temp is nothing special for this time of year. This is the only real standout, and it’s a weak one.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums. Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st are dead again – tiny, weak, and hardly breaking. All in all, this is a pretty normal blank run for this area. The spot is inconsistent, and this forecast shows it. Keep the board waxed, and check back in a few days – forecasts can change. This is Rusty, signing off.
