The Lowdown

Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for Bandol. I gotta be straight with you: the next week and a half is a bit of a flat spell. We’re talking about a solid run of days with barely a ripple, so you might want to keep the board in the car and the wax in the bag for a while.

The first real chance to get wet doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 11th of August. That morning, we’re looking at a late-arriving pulse of swell. The waves will be a solid 7ft from the WNW, and with glassy conditions, it’s going to be clean as a whistle. The water’s sitting at 75°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.

Les Nervis is a beach and reef setup, and it’s inconsistent and rarely breaks, so when it does fire, it’s a special deal. The swell direction (WNW) is a solid match for the optimum SSW direction, but with a period of 7 seconds, it’s a short-period windswell, so it won’t have the same grunt as a groundswell. The combined energy is moderate (420), so there’s some push behind it. That said, at 7ft, it’s getting into the territory where it’s more for intermediate to experienced surfers. Expect crowds to be possible here.

Wednesday the 12th of August morning is the real standout. The swell is up a touch to 8ft, still from the WNW, and it’s glassy again. The energy is moderate to strong (469), and the conditions are going to be primo. The south-westerly wind kicks in later in the day, so get it early. This is the best window of the whole forecast.

The 13th of August morning sees the swell drop to 4ft from the WNW, but the wind is howling offshore at 16 mph from the WNW, so it’ll be clean but blown out. The energy drops to 146 (moderate), and it’s more of a novelty session.

After that, it fades right back into tiny, poor surf for the rest of the run. The 14th of August has a little 2ft WNW swell, but it’s just not worth chasing.

So, to sum it up: the first week and a half is a no-go. The best chance to get a wave is on the morning of Tuesday the 11th, but the absolute standout is the morning of Wednesday the 12th of August. Get out there early for the glassy conditions and the biggest, cleanest swell of the run.

Rusty.
