The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. Bit of a quiet run ahead for Bandol - Les Nervis. This spot is a beach and reef setup, inconsistent, and needs a solid SSW swell to really get going. For the next couple of weeks, the swell windows are small and the winds are a mixed bag, so we’re not looking at any epic sessions. The best of the lot looks to be around Tuesday the 28th of July, with a moderate 5ft swell from the WNW and a clean offshore breeze from the NW. That’s about as good as it gets here in this window. The combined swell energy is a solid 323 (moderate), so there’s some push behind it, but the period is short at 7 seconds – that’s a windswell, not a groundswell, so expect bumpy, choppy waves rather than clean lines. It’s a bit too deep for beginners at that size, but it’s not a total write-off for the more experienced. The water temp is about average for this time of year, no wild anomalies.
The rest of the outlook is pretty lean. The first few days are all small to flat – Tuesday morning the 21st has a tiny 0.7ft West swell with a 3-second period, zero energy, and a light WNW wind that’s offshore, but there’s nothing to surf. Wednesday the 22nd sees a bit more life with a 2ft WNW swell and a glassy morning, but the energy is just 24 (weak) and the waves are poor. Thursday the 23rd is all offshore wind but flat, so not a wave to be had. The weekend of the 25th and 26th is small and messy, with a mix of onshore and cross-shore winds. Sunday the 26th afternoon shows a 7ft swell from the west with a 7-second period, but the wind is a strong WNW cross-offshore at 25 mph – that’s a clean but difficult paddle-out, and the combined energy is 425 (moderate-strong), but the short period means it’ll be a wall of white water for the beach break. Not for the faint-hearted.
The only real standout is the 28th morning, as mentioned. After that, it drops off again fast. The 29th through to the 5th of August are mostly flat or tiny, with a few 0.7ft pulses and glassy mornings, but one of those brings a 4ft west swell on the 4th afternoon with a fresh cross-offshore wind and 143 energy (moderate). That’s a maybe if you’re desperate, but it’s not a highlight.
So, overall, keep your expectations low. There’s a short window on the 28th morning that’s worth a look if you’re in the area, but otherwise, it’s a long, quiet stretch. The inconsistent nature of Bandol makes these flat spells pretty normal. The forecast can always change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
