The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, checking in on the local scene. It's a bit of a flat start, so grab a coffee and let's look at the whole 16-day picture.
Right off the bat, you can see the water is way warmer than usual for this time of year – sitting at a warm 77°, which is over two and a half degrees above the norm. That's notable.
We've got a real drought for waves on the front end. Conditions are clean, but there's simply no swell to work with from Sunday the 28th of July all the way through to Tuesday the 6th of August. That’s a solid week and a half of nothing worth paddling out for at Bandol - Les Nervis. The wind is glassy or light on a few of those mornings, but with no push, it’s just a flat calm lake.
The only glimmer of hope comes from the very end of the forecast. Wednesday morning, the 6th of August, we finally see some life. A new W'ly swell shows up around 6ft paired with a clean cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate, but the period is short at 7 seconds, so it won't have much punch. Still, it's rideable.
The real standout is Thursday morning, the 7th of August. That's the call. We get a bigger push of swell from the WNW at 7ft with a moderate energy reading. The wind is light offshore from the NW, which will keep things clean. This is the pick of the fortnight. Keep in mind, at that size, the wave can get a bit hefty, so it's better suited to surfers with a bit of experience. The period is still on the shorter side at 7 seconds, so expect a bit of a crumbly face. It won't be a world-class day, but given the dry spell, it will feel like a gift.
After that, it drops off again into the second week with a few tiny pulses that are really not worth the effort. So clear your schedule for that Thursday morning if you can.
Rusty.
