The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for our local stretch.

First off, the water is sitting at 78°, which is a whopping 6° warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s very unusual, so you’ll be in boardies for sure.

The outlook is a real struggle for the next 16 days. There’s a long gap of tiny or no surf from now until the morning of Sunday, July 26th. The first real chance to get wet comes on Sunday morning, but don’t get too excited. We’ve got a 5ft west swell with a period of 6 seconds at Bandol - Les Nervis (beach and reef). The wind is offshore from the WNW at 12 mph, which will keep it clean. The energy is moderate (188). Conditions are described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” so it’s not going to be a standout. The swell is just over 5ft, so it might be a bit much for beginners on a beach-and-reef setup. Sunday afternoon sees the swell bump up to 6ft, but the wind swings onshore and gets strong at 22 mph, which will trash it.

Monday, July 27th, is a repeat of Sunday morning: 5ft, 6-second west swell, clean offshore wind from the NW at 12 mph. The energy is moderate (167). Again, just ordinary and surfable. The afternoon gets messy again.

After that, it’s back to flat or tiny, weak swells for days. The 29th and 30th of July have glassy mornings but no swell to speak of. The energy is basically zero (0 to 1).

We see a tiny pulse on August 4th – a 2ft west-southwest swell, glassy wind, but it’s only 6 seconds and the energy is weak (21). Not worth paddling out for.

There’s a glimmer late on Thursday, August 6th. The afternoon brings a 3ft west swell with a 6-second period, cross-off wind from the west at 9 mph, and clean conditions. The energy is still weak (86). It’s described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” That’s about as good as it gets.

The morning of Saturday, August 8th, has an offshore wind at 16 mph, but the swell is tiny, only 1ft. Not going to do anything.

Bottom line: There are no true standouts in this 16-day window. The best bet is a very ordinary session on Sunday morning, July 26th, or Monday morning, July 27th, with clean 5ft waves. The rest is flat or too small to bother with. For a spot that’s inconsistent, this blank run isn’t surprising. Keep an eye on the forecast, but don’t hold your breath.

Rusty.
