The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s going on for Bandol.

Honestly, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty quiet. We’ve got a long stretch of flat or tiny, weak waves, and the wind is all over the place. Don’t get your hopes up for anything pumping.

For the first week, from Monday the 20th right through to the end of July, it’s mostly a write-off. We’re seeing small, weak swells, mostly under 2ft, with periods so short (3 to 6 seconds) that the waves will be gutless. The combined swell energy is low, mostly single or low double-digits (like 2, 10, or 18). The wind is often cross-shore or onshore, so the surface will be messy. The only real positive is a few windows of glassy or offshore wind, like Sunday morning the 26th with a glassy, 0.7ft ripple, but there’s just no energy in the water. A few days, like Tuesday the 21st and Thursday the 23rd, show zero swell entirely.

The best chance we get is right at the end of the month. On Friday morning, the 31st of July, we see a spike in energy. The swell is pushing 3ft from the west, with a period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy hits a moderate 123. The wind is glassy, so it’ll be clean. This is the standout window. The break is Bandol - Les Nervis, a beach and reef setup. It’s inconsistent and a beginner-friendly spot, so don’t expect perfection, but those clean, glassy conditions will make the most of what’s there. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.

After that, the first of August brings a similar 4ft swell from the west on Saturday afternoon, but the wind is cross-off, which is alright, but not as perfect as the Friday morning glass. The Sunday after that has a clean, offshore 3ft, but the energy drops back to 60. Then it fades off again into the new week.

So, to sum it up: the joint is flat for a long stretch. The only real highlight is Friday the 31st of July, early. If you can get out for that glassy, waist-high west swell, you’ll have a few fun ones. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a slow period.

Stay patient.

Rusty.
