Truth be told, the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a proper surf. The whole window is a tough one. The first solid surfable energy doesn’t really show until Thursday 17th of September, but even that’s pretty ordinary. Before that, from now through to Wednesday 16th, it’s mostly flat or tiny, weak, and messy. You’ve got a few mornings with glassy conditions on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th, but with zero swell, there’s nothing to ride. It’s a long, dry gap of almost a week.

The first real pulse comes Thursday 17th morning. Swell is only 4ft from the West, with a short period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy is low (89). The wind is offshore from the NW at 9 mph, so it will be clean, but the waves are ordinary. Not a standout by any stretch. Friday 18th morning offers a touch more size at 5ft from the WNW, still short period at 6 seconds, energy climbing to 213 – that’s moderate. The offshore NW wind at 9 mph keeps it clean, but again, the quality is just surfable, not special.

The only real standout for a more experienced surfer lands on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th of September. On Thursday 24th morning, a 5ft swell from the East hits, with a 6-second period and energy at 142 (moderate). The wind is cross-onshore from the ENE at 6 mph, so it won’t be perfect. But the following morning, Friday 25th, is the best bet of the whole outlook. Swell builds to 6ft from the East, period still short at 6 seconds, but energy is solid at 210 (moderate). The wind goes glassy – a NNE breeze at just 3 mph. That’s a major positive; it’ll be clean.

At 6ft, this is pushing into territory that might be a bit much for beginners, but for anyone with some experience, it’s worth a look. The swell direction from the East isn’t ideal for the break’s optimum (SSW), so don’t expect perfection, but glassy conditions are rare enough to make it the highlight. The setup is beach and reef, so with that short period it might be a bit close together and dumpy, but the clean conditions make it the best on offer.

Overall, crowds are reported as “sometimes,” so you might have some company but nothing crazy. Water temperature is 76°, which is about 5° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s notably warm, so you can get away with a shorty or just boardshorts.

So, if you’re itching for a paddle, target Friday 25th of September morning. It’s not a classic, but it’s the cleanest and biggest we’ll see in this stretch. The rest of the time, you’re better off waiting.
